    Yes! I think it is an excellent blues guitar, it came alive when you started playing blues.

    Beautiful Art Deco appearance. That's a lot of guitar for under a grand, thanks for reviewing.

    I think D'Angelico make great guitars---and not just for the price. Being a lover and casual collector of all things in the Art Deco style I originally bought my first one(a Premier SS without F holes) purely because of that gorgeous headstock but I was amazed and delighted at just how good it was. I also now have a Mini DC.

    The perfect guitar for me, (with the addition of a Bigsby), seein' as how I only do fingerstyle country and a little blues and jazz. Love the15" body width but the headstock is a little over the top....but I could get used to it. Sounds terrific....looking forward to hearing it after you work your magic Rich.

    Hi Rich, Just wanted to say that the model you have (premier SS) is an "OK" guitar. But if you really want to hear the best of their small body, single cut semi-hollow guitars, ask D'angelico to send you the Excel model. At $2000 its a higher end model that sound much improved over the Premier. While they both play and sound well, the Excel is much more in your league. Thanks for the video. I always enjoy your playing.

    Nice demo Rich. That’s a very sweet semi hollow and it’s at nice price point for a lot of players.

    my gratitude for your D'Angelico Premier SS Guitar review. Your detailed video provided an excellent close-up look at this instrument. Regarding the big oversized headstock. I own a Excel, which has a larger body than the one in your review. I've found that the balance of these guitars can be a bit challenging for extended playing sessions. D'Angelico is known for its large ornate headstock with those delightful decorative ornaments. It's interesting to know that this design influence I believe traces back to John D'Angelico's background in furniture making. I'd seriously consider adding this guitar to my collection if not for the headstock. Maybe they can create a model with a scaled down version.

      Funny enough, I own a 2020 model of this guitar with the stair step tailpiece. It's quite literally a large chunk of metal towards the bridge of the guitar and counterbalances the headstock really well. I'm guessing it serves some sort of counterbalancing purpose. :)

    Rich I have the D' Angelico book of their story! The trus rod cover was designed back in the day to look like the Empire State building. All that deco art is representative of New York. Cheers!

    I have that scarf joint on the necks of 3 of my guitars, a Michael Kelly, a Jay Turser and an SX Les Paul copy. That's about 700 dollars worth of guitars that retailed about double that. Pawn shop,Used from Guitar Center, Reverb...

    Been watching you many years. Love your touch concerning playing. I have a light or soft touch. How to I get a set of strings. I would like to try them. Also, do you prefer a fixed bridge over a tuneomatic?

    Hey rich would love to see you demo a PRS SE Hollowbody Piezo. Ive been messing with solid body guitars and acoustic IRs to try and emulate the sound of big bodied archtops but retain the playability of stabdard electrics. The Piezo Hollowbody SE seems like a nice alternative since (atleast in theory) it doesnt require a laptop or modeler to emualte the more acoustic tones and response of a traditional jazz box.

    • @picker63028
      @picker63028 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You are kidding? The IYV looks great at 10 feet and plays easily enough but the workmanship and parts are substandard. I got one and the body inside looked like a chainsaw cut it out. Rough, and I mean crude not sanded or anything. They refunded my money. The D'angelico is super clean with attention to detail. Well crafted and fitted.

    • @Jimbo1952
      @Jimbo1952 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@picker63028 I did take care of some high frets and a few fret sprouts. I polished the frets as well. I put Rich's 'jazz' set on it. I wish you could play it. I love it but yes, it's not golden right out of the box. I paid $133.00. The price has been as low as $128.00. It's now hovering at around $177.00. The pickups sound almost identical to one my students Gibson 335, I A-B'd it during his lesson. I love it. I am not trying to sell you on one. I just want you to know I'm not kidding. My reference to the D'Angelico was about the body size and shape. I'll need to bring it up to Rich's and AB against the D'A. D'Angelico makes good stuff.

    Its a light bulb that matchrs that goofy duck footed headstock off.. I've heard if you push down on the low E string and turn two clicks to the right the bulb will light up..

    The "decorative" piece on the headstock is called a finial.

  • @pharmerdavid1432
    @pharmerdavid1432 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Sweet looking guitar, but if the top is spruce then it has a maple laminate over the top, because the top flame is maple looking (looks like back) - no? I don't like the pickguard, but always take them off anyways. The decorative end piece on the headstock is called a "finial", something the "D'Angelico" luthier used on his art deco headstock they copy. They appear to be excellent guitars for the cost, competition for Eastman and Epiphone - they have been getting better recently with their Broadways and Sheratons etc. There is something about the Gibson mini-humbuckers in my Sheraton that really cuts in a sweet way. I've long considered getting a D'Angelico, but being old I stick to the classic models. I wonder if the neck would be too thin for me though....?
