PlayStation 2 Hardware Checker v2 - Anti-Modification/Anti-Piracy Check

- Remember how I showcased a VHS of that alleged "Hardware Checker" software that was built into the PS2? Well, the software was very unpolished and it didn't look very nice, almost plain. Well, today I have discovered that there was a second version of this software created during the time of the PlayStation 2 Slim era. Today, I received another VHS in the mail. It had a "11/17/07" on the front, meaning this was recorded on November 17th, 2007. I popped it into my VHS player and discovered the second version of the "Hardware Checker" software. The software only appears if you modified the console in any way. This version has a more polished UI than the first version of the software did, and this time you aren't asked about if the PS2 was modified or not; it would automatically load into the software. So yeah, this is what the new version of the software looks like.
Okay, to all of you who don't understand that this isn't real or just say "FAKE" and nothing else in the comments like a madman, read this dang thing first before you do anything! This goes for regular people, too, who aren't aware if this is legit, or not. No. It isn't real. I have said it numerous times before, and I truly think I have lost count in the process; this anti-modification/anti-piracy check is not real. All of these separate screens for the program were made in MS-Paint only. They aren't real, and if you were to actually run a pirated game on your PS2 (through a burned disc), you would not get something like this; you would instead be sent to the Red Screen of Death (RSoD). This video is only made to spread awareness about piracy. Always pay for games, and never illegally download them. You might have gotten your 'booty', but you have robbed a good, honest, hard-working person from a source of revenue for something they were passionate about all because you couldn't fork out some of your hard-earned money to support the developers. Now, I am against piracy, but I am not against video game preservation, something that Nintendo doesn't seem to understand.
This video was inspired by a Nintendo Switch Anti-Piracy video:

Looks almost completely authentic, has a creepy vibe without being too over-the-top. Only thing that makes it a bit unauthentic is some of the slang and informal terms - an official console released in 2000 would probably not use term "legit". Otherwise, great job!
Are all these in this video real or fake?
A large majority are indeed fake.
I know right
@@dimitrisioannou3218I know I’m responding almost a year late but they’re fake.
But I doubt sony wouldn't use tts, especially the modern tts we have.
Thank you for putting in a voice that reads this out loud!
Arrest that PS2 and replace it with another PS2!!
whoa man this is way to good! this is one of the more realistic ones I've seen recently, the one thing i might change is the use of clip art and have playstation 2 stylized art to make it seem more authentic.
I was actually quite convinced by this until the voice started speaking.
Microsoft Bob
Microplaystation🗿
That's the sad thing about these videos, they can't hire professional voice actors

This is very awesome! Looks like this really could be real! And for it all to be done on MS Paint is extremely impressive. The only thing I think would have been kinda better is if at the end, the RSOD sound was there instead, since it'd make it more creepy and scare whoever pirated the games more.
6:43 When Gesus Cryst declines my access to Heaven
6:43 If Gsus Cryst sends me to hell
Why do I keep saying Gesus instead of Gsus
Wait what- I read the description and… How was this made in MS Paint?! This looks waaaay too good! Like, it actually looks legitimate, and the voiceover was a nice touch. This was actually awesome! Keep up the good work! Would love to see more anti-piracy stuff and kill screens from you.
Thanks for the video
Everyone, before you scream "FAAAAKE" in the comments, please please PLEASE read the whole description of the video. It's made perfectly clear that it isn't real if you would take your sweet time to read the WHOLE description.
Well, I never said that. As I would imagine the fictional strict laws based on the Soviet-styled system and not the Chinese-styled system.
Still, I think the Xbone would be more likely to call the cops for modding. It's really interesting other than that.
ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THAT?!?!!????!!!!!
Reeeeeal
Pretty well made!
I’m glad to see videos like this in the future
I am pretty sure the Australian version of the PS2 allows modification making all games on that version have no anti piracy measures
I mean I could replace the main drive with a Linux hard drive
And Sony could do nothing about it
The Meccacon will know that that’s not a PlayStation 2 optical drive
yea boi i’m australian 😎
@@yeetboy88YTAustralia on top
Good thing I’m Australian! 🇦🇺
the problem is that the PS2 does not have that much room in its bios to store that much audio
I mean it could store it in a memory card but not everyone has a memory card so it could have an option to show captions instead of audio due to the fact that no memory card is inserted but considering it will eventually have to be deleted I think the memory card might or not work
It also uses modern tts for the audio. What has happened to this video!?!?
It's not stored in the BIOS, obviously.
I think it's somewhere In another chip or like an unwritable sector in a memory space, but still.. how could it keep it in the memory.. mh.. maybe a memorycard-like structure inside the PS2 to store audio and the program..?
6:49 I'm disappointed with this ending. :(
This is really good, but there are a few things that make this less realistic. First off I would like to say the effects and menu feels really realistic, and you did a good job on it. And I would say instead of a talking voice, make it on text as it would have been more realistic. Then when it asks you what ps2 model you have, it can't just update itself to have the ps2 slim, and same with the TOS, the console can't update. But still pretty good. 8/10
Looks great. That’s a 10/10. I was thinking I should do a GameCube Hardware check video. But still, it looks great, despite that if you modify your console to play pirated games, you won’t run into this screen, it will just send you to the RSOD

6:44 I really got startled here
XD That was an interesting idea for a mockup to be honest.
Well done!
Bad ending: The PS2 has been disabled
And I thought the previous video was good enough! This is *way* better! Especially using a voice tutorial before the check, which really intrigued me. May I ask, if you chose the Origianl FAT model of the PS2, would it still run the same as the process as the SLIM model? I'm sure I remember an image of the serial number and SCPH model number of a FAT model being used in the original video, would that show up instead of the one used for the SLIM model, and would any other steps be accounted for?
But nonetheless! Amazing editing! I love the way you put this! And nice game choices for when it was showing the games that was illegally pirated~
"May I ask, if you chose the Origianl FAT model of the PS2, would it still run the same as the process as the SLIM model?" Yes. The same process will run for the original FAT models.
@PlanetYt27272 You weren't even a part of the conversation 🙄
I will never forget the spinning RSoD in "PS2 BIOS Corruption #8 [RSoD Edition]" and #4!!!
0:15/6:44 addicted to this sound, somehow.
SCARY!!!!😨 🤡 😨 🤡 😨 🤡 😨 🤡 😨
Just like the PS2 menus in general as well as the memory card save data screen, this video, including 1:26-2:49, are very relaxing since they have no music.
11/10 this is an amazing video
6:45 The color of PS2's Prisoner costume when he goes to jail!!!!
9.0 / 10.0
I first wanna say this is really well made.
It almost seems real, the font, the graphics, the sfx, the style itself is a lot 2000ish sony-like.
But then why did I give a 9 instead of a 10?
The reason stands in 2 things (0.5 points each)
The first issue is the terms. Not the fake TOS, that was AMAZING (yes I did read the whole entire thing), but rather, the slang:
As @Werten25 mentioned in his comment, the slang used in some of the texts ("legit") is not so early-2000ish.
The other issue is with the AI voice. You should have used one of those analogue horror type of voices, or at least slightly compress the audio of the one you used.
Like from 4800khz to something like 2400khz (I suck with audio types btw, please send help)
So that's why I give you a 9 / 10, because of those 2 issues.
(Tbh, someone wouldn't even notice the first one if they're not really careful)
im happy im a normal person that reads descriptions before watching videos because i can come in here and call out your description.
im sorry to burst your bubble, but illegally downloading a game from three generations ago isn't hurting anybody's pocket. only brand new copies of games have royalties to the teams behind the games. used copies, the profit ONLY goes to whatever store or person sold the game to you. and how do we obtain PS2 games nowadays since the console is dead and the generation is over? that's right, used copies. nobody besides retro game stores and individual merchants online and/or at swap meets/flea markets are making money off of retro games. gaming isn't like movies and music where sale royalties always go to the people behind it. generations end, consoles die, and games for those consoles are pulled off the shelves and no more brand new copies are ever available anymore. even brand new sealed copies you get NOW are STILL pre-owned even if they were never open, unless the developer offers a re-pressed copy on their webstore, which honestly, very few companies do (Square is the only one i can even think of right now).
Nobody's gonna get hurt or lose money just because you decided to download South Park: Chef's Luv Shack for PS1. Nobody gives a shit except for dumbass gaming elitists.
just don't illegally download games that are on modern consoles being actively sold. oh and remastered games usually have more options than the original releases anyway so most people WILL choose to go for buying the remaster over pirating the old version, so nobody needs to worry about games that have been remastered, either.
THIS LOOKS SO REALISTIC

how can you get arrested for modifying hardware,
I mean yes, pirating isn't legal in several countries (my country doesn't give a shit about piracy).
but for some modifiers and boost-ups? Damn bro, they aren't joking around.
They don't care about how poor people are.

How did you make this in MS paint?!?? You're amazing dude!
5:57 Why did my favorite video game got pirated?!
Btw, its "The Simpsons: Hit & Run"
I know this is a fan made, i enjoyed the concept of the system checker but there are a lot of nonsense with the realization. I'm not trying to spit on your hard work, no, I just want to share my nerd point of view of this "hardware checker". This can also be used as reference for your future videos (or videos of someone else)
[NERD VOCABULARY ALERT]
- the voice ? Any manufacturer must make sure that their products can be used by deaf people. That's not the case here
- This PS2 is supposed to be a 70000 series, which are actually slim models. then why did you select "fat" ? And why did the console showed "correct" ?
- the overclocking check is pointless. Because the PS2 cannot be overclocked. The EE clock speed is not controlled by software
- "irregular data stored in the BIOS". A BIOS is often read only or not writable through software, in other terms, you would need to access the BIOS chip physically and reverse engineer it to understand its protocols and also decode the stored data on it and so, re-write it. Which is terrifyingly difficult
- goofy ahh skull and police car pictures.
- the modded save data check is once again, useless. The PS2 cannot detect if a game's save data has been modified. (It would have been correct if the PS2 stored hidden hashes of every save so it can run a checksum while loading the saves from memory cards then compare them with the stored ones)
- "the PS2 will be unusable". No I don't think so. The worst it can do is to give a scary warning then shutdown the console. (Yes, it has shutdown and reboot commands !)
The PS2 can't fry a component on purpose, since voltage / clock speeds are not controlled by software. (It would have been true if the PS2 had an efuse on the CPU 3.3V lane. The efuse blows up and it's no more powered)
- the PS2 cannot detect pirated games without the disc because it doesn't keep an history of the played discs. Any mod would bypass that anyway. In the case that the PS2 has a boot check, it would be easily be bypassed with that famous DVD patcher
- fan overclock ??! It's dumb... but true in some way: those installed in the PS2 are using a basic PWM signal. The yellow wire is actually the clock, for the pulse modulation (thus PWM)
- Intel core 2 duo. .. I don't even know what to say at this point. It's an x64 CPU ! The PS2 uses the MIPS IV architecture! What about heat dissipation ? This tiny fan would never be able to cool it down. And the power supply would stop because of overpowering
- Silent fans ? Is this a rip-off of Onlyfans and Silent hill ? The PS2 doesn't have an internal built in microphone
- unofficial PS2 recorder ? Not precise enough. Is it software or hardware? The EE wouldn't handle an internal recorder, it's too intensive and it wouldn't detect an external one (capture cards for example)
- your actions have been reported to sony. The PS2 doesn't have wifi and 1% of people uses RJ45. Sony themselves know it would be useless to do that
- the hardware checker as a whole is just a bad idea. If it's a modded console with matrix infinity (like the depicted PS2 in the video), these kind of mods are actually microchips which run before the PS2 boots up, this means that any protection feature installed by the manufacturer would be bypassed even before it loaded, just like youtube ad blockers
Whoa. That was long to write. Thank you to everyone who read that far

@@RealKaiAnimatesOSC That's the answer I expected xD

How’s it going with your PlayStation 2?
Sorry, but I can't take this video seriously since the TTS voice is also the Childish Old Man.
I would never want to Pirate Games like PS2 or PS1 or Modify my PS2 or PS1. It is so scary to see this screen. I would never want to Pirate my console. If I knew that someone would be pirating my console I would be calling Sony and I would be calling 9-1-1 as well. So, they could be arrested. But, this is so real. 10/10. I hope I never get this message on my PS2. Cause, I love my Original/PHAT PS2. I have all my games and they are not Pirated. I know for sure.
It's fake you can pirate how much you want

"Your actions have been reported to Sony." Not so sure about that. If you don't have internet connected to it, you're probably safe. I like to suspend my disbeleif but the PS2 isn't that advanced. This probably would fit more with the Xbox One. OOH! ZINGER!
the only thing that impressed me is the fact of someone INSTALED A FUCKING CORE 2 DUO ON A PS2 CONSOLE HAAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA DUDE THIS MADE MY DAY

What if the hardware detector can't detect a single CMOS battery, after taking apart the ps2, remove the CMOS battery, turning on the ps2 after removing the modifications as a way to bypass the "permanently disabled" screen, also, the report only works when you have your ps2 connected to the internet
Yes, I know it's fake
How do you got that VHS look from? I liked it in the slightest!
Clipchamp is where I get the VHS filter from. It's a free online video editor *without* a preview watermark for free plans. You can export up to 720p resolution with a free plan. They even have a green screen filter. I definitely recommend it.

The vhs filter is overused in these anti piracy screens. The text to speech and some of the aspects look a little too much for an anti piracy checker. Love the effort put in to this but other than that, its not an anti poracy screen that would make people think is real
Hi
I appreciate this but in reality the checks would’ve already been done and your console would’ve been detected as modified
Yes replacing the cpu for a faster one is a illegal modification xd
I need clarification on your comment, I somehow thought of some idea(even though this is not real as said in the desc)that if it is illegal to internally modify the console by the user as said in the Sony TOS but, would it be also be illegal when you need to internally upgrade or modify the console from an official or local service technician?
