Great information, Ryan! Carpet is starting this year in Shreveport LA and I am anxious to try it out. I run tekno and only been in off road for 1 year- love it and I really enjoy your videos. Look forward to seeing you run this year, and I might even try to catch you live- if possible!

Carpet has been an absolute game changer for me. I'm a motocross guy and die-hard dirt fan, which is what got me into r/c racing. Unfortunately I just got so flustered with the tire game and constant setup changes with dirt. I felt like 90% of my time was spent chasing setup and only 10% having fun and focusing on my driving. With carpet, once I get a solid setup then I only have to make minor changes from track to track, even being in the Expert class A-main. It's fast, clean, and consistent racing. Of course you can't afford to make hardly any mistakes but I really feel like it's more about the driver and less about the setup compared to other surfaces. At the end of the day, there is minimal clean-up. Not to mention it's very cost effective for track owners and makes track changes much easier. Never thought I'd say it, but I love carpet.

I was so pumped to see this video! I bought a brushless E-Maxx about 5 years ago and wanted to race at the the time, but with no track a backyard bashed served me well. I just found out about a indoor carpet track about a half hour away from me in St. Cloud Minnesota. I bought a TLR 22 5.0 AC about 2 weeks ago and am working on the build. I can't wait to go racing!

Really appreciate how much information you put out to try to help us get our cars dialed in. I have been to tracks where people try to keep everything a secret to get an advantage or something but the tracks that I have the most fun at are the ones where everyone is trying to help everyone else out. At my local track people will literally help others in the pit and even share parts and it really makes racing a fun and friendly experience. I mean, we aren’t all trying to be pro, we just want to have a fun weekend at the track. Thanks Ryan!

Awesome video ! I also have been playing around with u-joints vs cvd joints on carpet after watching Trishbits Schumacher videos explaining the traction differences between the two , I’m actually running the TLR gear diff w/the TLR spec racer dog bones and hexes in my 17.5 Yokomo YZ2 lighter than stock bones plus the u joints allow the suspension to still work under forward drive vs cvd which goes to a flat straight shaft position when under a load. Just thought I would share yet another tuning option for carpet since it’s a whole different animal

Just some advice (and you may already know this) is that for carpet racing if you overshoot the down ramp land on full throttle and the car will land slammed to the ground and it won’t get upset. Cons: Idler gears tend to go quickly so don’t do it too often.
Edit: It doesn’t really apply for that track because it’s a really high-speed course but for more technical tracks just send it lol

Just getting into carpet this year. Question for wheels, I see DE has two different front buggy wheels for my B6. Slim and regular. What is the benefit from either?

If you can ever try it, you should try foam tires on black crc carpet. I run the 22 5.0 ac and that is the way to go at our local track.

      They look like gemstone containers.
I use plastic nickel tubes to hold my shock springs and their product tags. One of the best additions I’ve made to the ol pitbix in a while. So easy to identify them now!!

What is your discharge bank, old school was a bank of car blinker globes. What do you use and what does it do? Is it better for batteries using it. Is it better than a charger discharging cycle?
    Thanks

Hey Ryan! I just picked up a 17.5 X factor certified plus edition and it came with the black tep1118 rotor. Do you have any experience with that? I usually run the tep1119 copper rotor on our small indoor dirt/clay track. Not sure what the difference is between the rotors. I usually gear at 69/27 in my 5.0 elite. Thanks!

Id try some foam tires if allowed at the track, Rick from Gone Banana's is local to me and come to our local club race about every weekend. Carpet is way more consistent imo then clay or hard packed dirt. If you get out of the groove you aren't screwed on having your tires being cruddy for a lap.
