The year my lovely mum died i was 6 so never really knew her . But i miss her everyday but Dads up with you now girl i can say that because i am 28 years older than she was when she died . My Dad was in love with her until the day he died love you pops RIP .
I listen to the Radio Classics channel on SXM and Bill Thompson voices several characters on the Fibber McGee and Molly program. The Old Timer and Wallace Wimple are my absolute favorites and their comedy is just as funny now as it was in the 1940's.
Fibber McGee and Molly... RIP Mom, her favorite radio show when she was a little girl in the 40s. She bought us re-recordings of the shows on cassette when me & my brothers were kids in the 70s. Those were great times. Miss you Mom.
I would give half of everything I own to be able to attend one of those broadcasts, especially one that featured the famous closet avalanche.@@paulbourgeois4491
Radio sports commentator Bill Stern also died in 1971 (age 64). He was most famous for "The Colgate Sports Newsreel", a 15-minute radio sports show that ran on NBC during the 1940s.
In regards to Goose Goslin, the Washington Senators only one World Series championship in 1924, he was part of a second World Series win with the Detroit Tigers in 1935!
You had Stravhinsky the composer, Khrushchev the Premier but you missed out the Soyuz 11 cosmonauts who spent 23 days aboard the first space station Salyut 1 but sadly perished on the way back to Earth when their re-entry capsule depressurised (basically a valve opened and let all the air out and they weren't wearing spacesuits) and the crew Georgy Dobrovolsky, Vladislav Volkov and Viktor Patseyev were found dead in their couches inside the capsule after it landed. They all left behind wives, children and families
You left out Glenda Farrell. She passed away on May 1st,1971. She was in several films in the 1930s and starred as Torchy Blane in the Torchy Blane series of movie from 1937-1939.
One surprising ommission from this video is animation pioneer Ub Iwerks. It was his work with the Walt Disney Company during its early days that helped to bring Mickey Mouse to life. He passed away from a heart attack on July 7, 1971. Two others I would like to give Honorable Mention to: 1) Actor Paul Lukas - His performance opposite Bette Davis in the film Watch on the Rhine won him the Best Actor Oscar in 1943 (Over Humphrey Bogart's performance in Casablanca) He passed away from Heart failure on August 15, 1971 2) A notorious one: Francois "Papa Doc" Duvalier- President (And dictator) of Haiti - Died of heart disease and Diabetes on April 21, 1971
There is a notable name missing from May of this year that, should you do a 2.0 of this video, should be added. Her name is Violet Jessop and she was a crew member of 3 very famous ships. She was on the Olympic when it crashed into another ship and had to be repaired. She was then transferred to Olympic's sister ship, the RMS Titanic and survived the sinking. Finally, she ended up helping on the 3 sister ship, Brittanic, which was made into a medical ship during World War I. It sank after hitting a mine and Jessop survived that as well
In Memoriam 1971: Famous Faces We Lost in 1971 is a journey through the famous names who left us that year. A way to look back and remember those who helped shape the spirit of their times.
I was 11 yrs old, when Pete Duel, committed suicide. I was a big fan of Alias Smith & Jones. Looking back, that was really sad. He was so young & handsome, and had a whole lot life left to live. God bless him.
Yes, I was 10 and a big fan of Alias Smith & Jones and I was genuinely shocked when it was announced that he had shot himself. I liked Roger Davis, but it was always going to be hard for him to take over the role. Apparently, the executive producers of the show wanted to cancel but ABC said they would sue if they did. So the entire company assembled to continue filming within 12 hours of Petes' death.
I liked Van Heflin as an actor. He was especially good as the male lead as "Sam" in the 1946 movie, THE STRANGE LOVE OF MARTHA IVERS with Barbara Stanwyck (Martha Ivers) and a very young Kirk Douglas as "Walter".
Audie Murphy was great in his movies, have loved him always, God bless him. His face should be in the portrait you put in the year of his death, is much more famous than all the rest
I must say that that water trickling sound during this video is very annoying! And I’m sure this probably is only my opinion, but it’s just I had to mute the video in order to continue watching it to the end…

I was 13 in 1971 when I first heard of Pete Duel committing suicide. That was hard to accept because I was a big fan of Alias Smith & Jones. R.I.P.
I like Alias Smith & Jones too. First saw Pete Duel in a recurring role in the 1960s Gidget series with Sally Field.
I was also thirteen when that happened. I still remember what a shock it was. You would think he had everything to live for.
@@hcombs0104 Surely you know that fame and money are not "everything to live for." They are soulless and heartless. People need love and support, and no one knows what demons others carry.
Thank you for remembering Pete Duel.
Singer, song writer, and younger brother to bandleader Guy Lombardo , Carmen Lombardo died on April 17th 1971 after a long battle with cancer
Loved the quote at the end from The Doors 1968 song Five to One which is also the name of a book written about Jim.
It was sad Harold Lloyd & his son died the same year. TY for these tributes. God Bless You & stay safe.
Yes, and Harolds co-star Bebe Daniels died only eight days after him.
Similarly, Joe DiMaggio and his son passed away within five months of each other in 1999.
Don't know if you've covered 1999 yet.
I watched Bennett Cerf on "What's My Line" in reruns on TH-cam. We was really awesome to watch and he was extremely intelligent.
Thank you for all of the work you put into these videos. It’s so appreciated, as are you.
I appreciate that!
Dad and son died in same year!Harold Sr and Harold Jr!
Bennett Cerf was not only brilliant but funny. His time on Whats My Line? proved that. He was paired perfect with Arlene and John for comedic timing
Crazy how Harold Lloyd's son died just 3 months after his father.
I remembered back in 1971 when I heard on the radio that Jim Morrison passed away, I was 7years old and he died on my 7th birthday July 3rd
Thanks so much for remembering pop's Louis Armstrong, I was raised on his music.
Great video keep up the good work this takes us back in time.
Glad you enjoyed it
Louis Armstrong is possibly the most influential musician of the 20th century.
Cliff Edwards also co-hosted a local late night old movie tv series"Night Owl Theater"with Joe Bolton on WPIX TV Ch.11 in NYC in the 1940's.

Recognize the name. Didn't he also appear as himself in several sports-themed (maybe baseball?) films?
R.I.P. Louis Armstrong.
In a strange irony, Van Heflin’s last film was Airport where he played the suicidal bomber who blows himself up
Harold Lloyd's son died a few months after him? Wow. That's sad. 😢
R.I.P. Jim Morrison.
The greatest voice in rock n' roll history.

The one I'll never forget...as millions of others won't..Pete Duel 😥💔. Our hearts are still broken. I was 16.
So many wonderful legacies left behind.
So many who could still be alive today had fate played out differently.

Harold Loyd Sr. was as good as Buster Keaton. Just a treasure to watch. Philo Farnsworth was from my hometown of Fort Wayne Indiana.

Ogden Nash was also a panelist on the 1950's edition of the TV game show"Masquerade Party".

Pete Duel, Freddy Prinz were really harsh.

Duane Allman and King Curtis were friends.

Edie Sedgwick was so pretty!
billy gilbert did some roles with 3 stooges too
