- We go scouting around Smith River, California. The Rogue Rockhound joins the adventure. We traveled to multiple locations while we explored. Lots to see along the way including a black bear!
You can call it prospecting, rock hunting, rockhounding, stone collecting and more. It is all about the great outdoors and getting outside. That is why rockhounding in the Pacific Northwest is a passion of mine. Oregon is my location of choice. My quest is to find and craft. There is something awesome about hunting stones and crafting with them. The newly discovered material offers unique beauty. Oregon has many minerals to collect including agates, jasper, sagenite, crystals, quartz, opal, petrified wood, and more. These semi-precious stones are great material to use for art projects, jewelry, and other crafts. It is time to hound some rocks, cut them open and make some crafts.

Nice work sir, your editing skills are getting sharp.
Much appreciated
Beautiful material and beautiful scenery. I've always loved that River.
It was a pleasure to explore and I'm glad you liked the video. Smith River is awesome!
Beautiful travels!
Many thanks!
Cool finds.
Thanks Ontario Rockhound!
Used to forage winter mushrooms in that Big Flat area and Hurdy Gurdy creek which is also a good place for gold panning. Lots of quartz monzonite in the creek. 10:40 ... I see you also found my favorite camping spot on middle fork. If you follow the middle fork road about 10 miles you will find some alpine lakes that were formed by glaciers.
Very cool! That area is awesome. I'll have to make another trip some day and camp over there.
Nice finds
Thanks
@@RockHoundQuest Would it surprise you to learn there are parts of Canada that extend to a more southerly latitude than Smith River, California?
nice serpentinite. there is nephrite in that river. In fact I have some. I found a 6lb cobble about 3 years ago, white with green specs. not sure what else is in there and its a long drive from San Diego so I dont know when Ill be up there again.
I'm in the same boat, it's a long drive from where I live. It's beautiful place to explore. If I go back, I'll have to camp next time to really look around. Thanks for the tip about the nephrite!

Interesting factoid, I wouldn't have guessed.
@@RockHoundQuest I am guessing you might have looked it up by now (I don't know?)? BUT, I can tell you that the residents of Pelee Island, Canada live on a more southerly latitude than the residents of Smith River, California. That shocks most people!
where is the gold in smith river?
Do we have petoskey stone here
