i was actually born and raised in key west. just about a month ago , i moved from there and watching this made actually made me tear up a little. i miss home so much 🥺
What a fun town, full of quirky sights and personalities.

The first time we went to key west I was surprised at all the wild stuff going on there! 😂 That was the most unique tourist town I ever saw. And the night brings on a life all of its own 😂 I thought it was quite scary my first trip to that bazzar place. Peoples pets were actually sitting at the table dining out with their owners, and I just wasnt used to that coming from a small town in kansas. I was like- thats a chihuahua sitting at the table with his own plate! Omg! And another resturant I saw a bunch of chickens running around inside! But being outdoor resturants I guess all guests are welcome! 😂😂😂
The shops are amazing! The food is out of this world delish!! Its just a very relaxed atmosphere. You just never know what you might see! Lol Weve been back to visit the fun several times over the years. Its a blast and entertainment is great!! Key West is full of the arts, and so full of multitalented people!

I spent 4 days in Key West on a budget of $125.
Kmart's parking lot was a great place to park my car for the night. Woke up to the rooster crowing.
Yes I traveled by myself and felt totally safe.
you can sleep on the bridges, with a fishing pole next to you.
I slept in the mcdonalds parking lot down, there. didn't get told to leave and wasn't bothered. Just for one night though

We were there in August a few days before the hurricane. & seen that little lady playing the guitar at Mallory Square, singing Beatles songs. Loved it there.

My parents and I drove down to Key West when I first moved to Florida from Virginia. We spent the night down there and it was very expensive. The only reason we stayed there was cause the drive back was too much. We got chased off the keys the next morning because Hurricane Charley was coming so I got to see some stuff but not everything. It is time for me to make that drive again. It is a beautiful drive through the keys.

04-05 were rough years to live there due to the constant hurricane threats. That's sucks your trip was cut short though.

My son used to rent a place for a month. Would go down the last 4 days. CRAZY!!!!! Hogs Breath great stop. Drive back home, straight through 26 hours. Didn't drink again for weeks. Hope to get back again.
I lived in Miami for over 50 years and been in the keys thousands of times fishing. Camping dancing and enjoying the people in the keys are the greatest. Seeing this video I missed it. I move to Tampa. But I Always would have loved to live in the Keys.

My wife an I have decided to go to key west this year. Video was good in that we had no idea what we would find there, now at least we have an inkling.
My wife and I was there for our 25th Anniversary. I was actually trying to find a restaurant owned by Clint Eastwood but there was something going on that weekend and I couldn't find a parking spot anywhere. Got some of the best clam chowder ever. Thanks Jacob

good travel tip, stay slightly out of town to save $$...this is by far the best Key West video on youtube. iguanas crawling into graves, live entertainment, stumbling upon a parade by chance and a sunset

I credit Key West to being born! My parents met as neighbors on House Boat Row. :)

fahsky, you're young yet... when you look back on my words in 20 years you'll say _"He was right!"_
Anyway, I remember House Boat Row, although the residents had no legal standing to anything, they got their mail delivered, had trash pickup & electrical service; everything. Then the city agreed to allow developer Ed Knight to build multi million dollar condos (Seaside Condos) on the mangrove lands on the other side of South Roosevelt and the rather chaotic nature of the houseboats was deemed detrimental to the likely success of the condos which were initially offered at nearly two million dollars apiece. The houseboats were offered bargain spaces in the city marina at Garrison Bight and I still remember the procession of houseboats towed around the island to their new more regulated home. I was not, unfortunately, an avid keeper of photographic memories in those pre-digital days.

fahsky, I've learned in life change is just one of those things. Time passes, things happen, people come and others go to make way for them and so the wheel goes round. Some folks are still managing to hang in and live on their boats in Cow Key Channel. Nothing stays the same, and every time I ride by on South Roosevelt I miss the mail boxes and planters strung along the sidewalk, but there it is. Modern Key West is better than no Key West at all.

I want to visit Key West for a weekend sometime, but not during hurricane season! My parents went once in the 90s and really enjoyed it. BTW another place you can see roosters/chickens running around wild is the Ybor City area in Tampa. And over in Dunedin (about 40 minutes from Tampa, near Clearwater) they got peacocks that run around wild as there used to be a peacock farm there many years ago and when it closed they just turned the birds loose.

Make sure you check out the Jet Ski Tour, was one of the best ways see the island and a if it your first trip to Key West a great way to get familiar with the island. 2-hour, 26 Miles tour of Key West’s coastline with several stops. We were educated on Key West’s history, the landmark’s, the beaches & some of the best places to visit. The trip took us around the entire coast, past landmarks & historical sites also in between the islands and through the mangroves. The name of the company that does the tour is Barefoot Billy’s and I recommend the tour to anyone visiting Key West.

Loved the drive to Key West... slow, irritating at times, but so unique. Wow, you did it all in one day. Yeah, no cheap rooms in Key West, figured you'd budget for one night... didn't expect you'd go there and back in one day. Yowza.

I have the same love/hate about the drive down. It's beautiful and peaceful . However, if you get stuck behind the wrong person.. it VERY irritating.
I did the same thing in 2001 Halloween from Ft. Lauderdale. to Key West & back in one day, wow. We did see one Key deer. Key West reminded me of Gatlinburg Tenn.

My great great grandparents, William and Charlotte Filer were ship wrecked in the Florida Keys in 1843. They came from Alsace Lorraine But we don’t know the intended destination. They were taken by lighter boat, a small sail boat, to Key West and started a shoe factory. I’m related to just about every body in that cemetery. I grew in Coconut Grove in the fifties before it became “glamorous” and often stayed in Key West. Key West has an interesting history and it’s a fun place to visit. Fantasy Fest is a must do at least once.

Two thoughts I've had about Jacob's trip. Since he went across the keys and back in one day, he couldn't get to every notable site in Key West. Second, this video was an overview, and knowing how Jacob drops his videos, there's a good chance there will be separate videos focusing on certain aspects of Key West. You have to assume he'll have a video dedicated entirely to the Ripley's museum in Key West.
I was in Key West a couple of days prior to Jacob, and I visited the Hemingway House for my first time. (It was my fourth visit to Key West.) There are good stories at the house, and a couple of neat things to see, but personally I don't think going there would have been the best use of his time, given he was spending less than a day in Key West. If he did go, bonus for all of us, but if not then all we're missing is video of a large pool (by Key West standards) a cat cemetary, a urinal water dish and cats with weird feet.

Not too long ago I drove all the way from Washington DC to Key West and strayed at a hotel in Miami ,nice experience .

Key West during "Fantasy Fest" is off the chain.
Love Key West, lived there 2 months wasn't $$$ prepared. Definitely recommend planning more before you make a move there or a vacation there.

Great video. The story about the grave markers in Capt'n Tony's is it use to be an ice house and a morgue. So some that died for whatever reason were not buried at the cemetery, but at the morgue.
That means there are......bodies!?

It's beautiful down there !! I was just saying a couple of nights ago it feels like beach weather here in GA. Makes me want to take a walk on the beach either early in the morning or late in the evening . It was sad when you showed that grave ( tomb stone) that said..... I told you I was sick . Bless that person's heart . I guess no one would listen . Also that was freaking when I saw those iguanas crawling down in that grave . Ewww...!!! But that was funny watching the roosters cross the road . My mother has been in the hospital and yesterday I had to come home to get some rest and there was this skinny roster crossing the road . I thought did I just really see that or am I just tired . lol !! So much has been going on with my mother for the past two and half weeks that I have been thinking .... I sure wish once my mother gets to feeling better I could go take a vacation , because I am wore out . But for now this awesome vlog you made Jacob will have to do .Thanks so much !! I need that !!

A truly wonderful video as seen through your eyes. I have never been there, but felt I was right there in all its glory. Definitely Looks like a tourist trap where you go drink and see the sites and have fun. Thanks for the magnificent video. I can scratch this place off to visit now. Lol
I was there just last week...nice town..looks like the weather has gotten worse (it was nice and sunny throughout the keys when i was there). Stayed at Marathon though, which is halfway to Key West. Did a two day survey for Pheidole megacephala, the species that dominates the town center.

Been to the Keys many times. Enjoy Marathon and Key Largo more. Went to Key West a few times, but it's where all the crazies are.
i agree, but if you're not going fishing or snorkeling, i feel like there's not much to see or do in Marathon or Key Largo.
