i was around 12 or 13 living in europe....never missed an episode....i will never forget Pizzaman and Councilor, even to this day...when i hear the tunes i smile and think of the tv family which taught me so much as a young boy
Live band performance on TV. It's pretty darn good. Studio you get multiple takes, overdubs, and post-production work. Even "better" musicians, though these guys did just fine. Not so on live TV; you get one take with the guys who could make it at that moment (that you can afford to pay).
Can't get enough of this song.
This was my Favorite show to watch when I was A Kid!!!!!!

My favorite theme song of all time.
Merv always had such great performers on his show. He may not have necessarily been a fan of all the acts, but he certainly knew how to find them.
Simple perfection.
Real urban vibe in that live version.
A perfect song , Hill Street Blues
Still my fave tv show/theme. Great 2 watch it 'live'. Thanks.
This on the recording to The Rockford Files are his best.😊
Thanks for uploading this. Great stuff once again.
Who is the guitarist?
is that Bruce Hornsby on the other keyboard at 3:09?
1:18 Larry Carlton on the Guitar.
@@chriscraft1334 nope
Yes. Bruce did play for Merve Griffin.
@@arthouston7361 I didn't know that. That's interesting
Hey let’s be careful out there………………………….
I presume that's Larry Carlton on the Guitar.
Nope, definitely not LC, but I'm not sure who it is.
Not as good as the real theme tune used on the series.
