This is my first year of investing and have been down 35% in the January sell-off, and am now down 17% in this sell-off. I work hard for my money, so investing is making me nervous and sad. First off, great video. You talk clearly and everything is easy to understand.
    Just curious, why would a company with problems out high dividend yields? To lure people into buying the stock?

      buying a stock for 10 dollars and selling it for 15 dollars, you've gained 5 dollars - this is capital gain.

    I love dividends! Best form of passive income there is in my opinion. Just becareful of the really high dividend yielding stocks could be dangerous. and be aware that REIT dividends you have to pay higher taxes on. Thanks for all your videos you a truly a great guy who is genuinely trying to help people w/o any motives - it's refreshing!

    Ok, I do get dividends from stock that I brought years after thier initial announcement date, but if I don't buy within a few days of the payout date I don't get that pay but I do get the payouts that come after that. Right now I'm broke af buying low-cost dividend stock that have growth potential. I think your explanation is very helpful for a smooth brain monke like me thanks for posting this!

    I think that most investors don’t get that part you said about companies paying dividends “If they don’t need it for operational expenses”. Not all companies should pay dividends. Some companies should not pay them so they can retain and reinvest that money inside the company and grow it at higher returns. Good video

    • @clearvaluetax9382
      @clearvaluetax9382  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Agreed, it's all discretionary... Steve Jobs was always against a dividend even though they didn't need the cash. I wonder how much cash AAPL would have if Steve had his way. Probably like a trillion dollars, lol.
