One issue with cutting the empty space out like That is your getting rid of your pick attack! The pick attack comes before the transient so you’d want to trim the clip forward a little.
Is there any advantage to recording guitar the old school way with pedals and an amp miked going into Pro Tools? Doing it the non-miked way, is it better to record guitar totally clean and then after add and adjust for effects within Pro Tools or record guitar with the amp and effect plug ins already set? Thanks!
You can also reduce the amount of markers which I always do, so it only marks the actual transients. Also should have gone over how to properly do fades and consolidation when parts are cut up
the standard of excellent increases as technology advances. From what I heard, the guitar tracks were played pretty tight originally but, for the punchiest, biggest, and clearest sound, we tweak everything a bit to make it easier to listen to. Just because we tweak and edit, does not mean the musicians are any less talented. I'd argue there are more talented musicians alive now than there were 20-30 years ago.
Recording an album is sonic manipulation at it's essence, so I don't see any difference between that and using quantization, particularly in a professional situation where time is money
If you have to quantize, you aren't playing metal. Learn how to play tight. Stop relying on computers to cheat your way. Shit like this is why music fucking sucks balls today.
Good info but I had to keep going back because you talk and move to fast. Also, whats "pretty easy" for you is not for others. But again good stuff thank you.

Here's an idea - if you want tight sound, PLAY tight! WTF man, WTF?! ...what happened to metal FFS!?

good luck in trying to imitate robots with perfect timings. Humans are supposed to be creative, leave your boring attitude to old farts
