  • This summer will have about no poker, but it will have a lot of dealing poker. I'm dealing the summer poker series at The Orleans on W Tropicana in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 2024 Orleans Summer Open is the official name. Here are my tales.

      If he gets put on the 11-7 shift daily and no games run they will send him home. As a new dealer he will most likely not get his preferred shift and will most likely be the first to get sent home. Having to plan your week around being scheduled 32-40 hours and then getting much less would not be good. Also, wouldn’t be able to go home for weeks at a time for the holidays. I wonder if he could get on for different tournament series throughout the year though. Just work the deepstacks at Venetian here and there or something like that. WSOP circuit events, etc… Get to work a handful of months a year, then do his normal thing the rest of the year. not sure if that is viable though.

    5.5 hours differemce sounds like 30 min lunches .. i noticed in a previous video you worked 9.5 hours and calculated pay off of that, but didnt mention a meal period. Could that be the difference in hours paid? Im assuming lunches are mandatory.in NV also, so.if hours were calculated including meal breakd it would be closer to your actual pay.

      At UPS, we were forced to take a 30 minute break/lunch every so often. Take it or not, you weren't getting paid for it. But they didn't tell us anything like that. And the total time on the clock was almost exact. So I don't think that's a thing here.

    You’re trying to double dip on OT hours. I would wager that the OT rule is simply any hours over 40 worked in a week. If you’re counting any hours over 8 in a single day and any hours over 40 in a week, you’re double counting some of the hours.

    • @California_Poker

      A.) If an employee makes less than one and one half times minimum wage ($15.375/$16.875) per hour, the employee would be paid overtime for time worked over 8 hours in a 24-hour period. If and employee makes more than one and one half times minimum wage, the employee would be paid overtime for time worked over 40 hours in a week. The only exception is if an employee agrees to work 4, 10 hour shifts. However, any deviations from the 4-10 rule could cause overtime to accrue (NRS 608.018).

    • @MelodyMaker
      @MelodyMaker 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good point Ben. It could be a function of how the pay stub reported hours. Suspect they aggregated all hours and then separately identified the overtime component at 0.5 when a better way to do it would be how you logically conceive it. (take gross at reg and a separate gross for O/T hrs).

    • @BrianBowman-mw9vt
      @BrianBowman-mw9vt 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      He’s trying to double dip on OT hours. It can’t be any hours over 8 in a single day AND any hours over 40 in a week. Let’s say he worked 10 hours a day for 5 days straight. 50 hours total should be 10 hours of OT pay. The way he’s calculating it, he’s counting it as 10 hours of OT for going over 8 in a single day AND 10 hours of OT for exceeding 40 for the week.

    • @LookOutside...
      @LookOutside... 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Because those missing OT hours are there as regular hours. He gets paid 11.50/hr. OT would add 5.75 /hr. 5x5.75 =28.75

    • @VegasPokerNomad
      @VegasPokerNomad  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      $5.625 is the additional pay for an OT hour. $5.625 * 5.33 hours = $29.98.

What some don't know was his rake was very low. 4 max most live tables. Also his room was beautiful and 95 percent of all games were seven stud.

    Just because you're ahead of where you expected your overall figure to be doesnt mean you should just let go of those acconting errors.
    Email the accounting department, or ask management about, about when the pay period begins and ends. If you know they shorted you of a down, tell them. You arent working for free. I'd also enquire about orientation pay too: should only take an email or phone call.

    Do you have time to play poker anymore? Did you say how long you plan on doing this dealing? Maybe you can become a traveling circuit dealer. Nevada pays OT on over 8 hours in a day? Id be very surprised. Over 40 in a week I could understand

    • @garrickmusic
      @garrickmusic 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My guess is that if you do under 40 hours a week then the OT hours over 8 in a day kick in. If you’re over 40 hours a week then it’s the higher of the overtime hours only. The ability to “double dip” the OT hours seems unlikely in Nevada or the US in general. 🤷🏻‍♂️
