KMA Gallery new collections for May from Jonathan Smith, Stephen Murfitt and Alison Coaten.
Each collection presents observations and expressions of form, space and surface but through very different approaches. Jonathan Smith's landscapes focus on the changing natural environment and the patterns created by light and shadow from walking on the bays and headlands on the Isle of Lewis.
Stephen Murfitt's exploration of form and surface focuses on the vessel as a means of expression and the effects of weathering, erosion and decay.
Alison Coaten's hand built ceramic figures explore the human form through evolutionary terms, taking inspiration from religion, myth and folklore.
