    I have a 1978 Rickenbacker 4001, bought it new. Also have several Fender and G&L basses. Going to a guitar show is about the most fun you can have with your clothes on 😅

    If you have yet to get yourself a Les Paul, get yourself a Sweetwater or Guitar Center card. GC will usually send you a 20% coupon once per year, or more; and both Sweetwater and GC cards give you 2-4 years interest-free payments, to pay off your gear. That’s how I was able to buy three Gibson Les Pauls, among a ton of other guitars, amps, and gear.

    • @Bayareaandbeyond777
      @Bayareaandbeyond777  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your tip. Right now, my budget is so tight living in North California that I can't afford one. Hopefully, some day. Right now, I have a Mexican Strat that's not bad, but my dream is a Les Paul. I'm going back to this show in January. Stay tuned for that video.

      @@Bayareaandbeyond777 I lived in SF back in the 90s and San Diego for 12 years, so I know how expensive it is. The guitar payments only end up being around $20-$30 per month, depending on how many years they give you to pay them off.

  • @nitegoat1369
    @nitegoat1369 ปีที่แล้ว

    Also, the difference in price of those Les Pauls you were looking at, is because one was a Les Paul Classic, which is the least expensive of the bound body/neck, gloss finish, Gibson USA line, while the other looked to be an R0 (1960 Reissue) from the Gibson Custom Shop line. It’s hard to tell from your video, but it could even be from the Gibson “Murphy Lab” line. I couldn’t tell what the difference in prices were between the Classic and the more expensive one.

    • @markkarpinski1460
      @markkarpinski1460 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Bayareaandbeyond777 Paul, just an FYI, it’s actually taboo to play that at a show or store. It goes back to the old day at any Guitar Center where every guitar newbie would demo a guitar by play Stairway. So if you do take up guitar, avoid the glares and jeers by not playing it.

  • @davidsparks6146
    @davidsparks6146 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    The reason there is such a wide deference in prices boils down to vintage mania and uneducated collectors with too much disposable income! The reality is the guitars made today are better constructed. It’s the lore and legend that you’re paying for!

    • @Bayareaandbeyond777
      @Bayareaandbeyond777  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are probably right. When people pay a million dollars for a Les Paul, you must be right.

      I would disagree with your take. I've played old guitars that seem to just play all by themselves. You need to try it to understand the vibe of older instruments.

    The difference in prices between the Les Paul guitars you were looking at were the difference between Custom Shop Gibson’s versus their standard line. An R-9 is much more expensive than a Classic 60’s new model. Now a real 1959 LP can get well over $350k (and more). And the 1959 is by far the most expensive because so few were made compared to 1958 and 1960 models.
