Uncover The Fascinating Maritime Past Of San Francisco!
San Francisco's maritime history is deeply tied to its growth as a major port city during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The California Gold Rush (1848-1855) brought ships to its natural harbor, transforming it into a bustling hub of trade and immigration. The city's location on the Pacific made it a critical point for shipping, fishing, and naval operations. Iconic landmarks like Fisherman's Wharf and the Maritime National Historical Park reflect its seafaring heritage. San Francisco’s maritime industry also played key roles in World War II shipbuilding and the evolution of global commerce.

The San Francisco cable car system was invented by Andrew Smith Hallidie, who launched the first line in 1873 after seeing horses struggle on the city's steep hills. It quickly grew, with several lines built by the 1880s, helping people navigate the city’s hills. After the 1906 earthquake, the cable cars faced decline, as electric streetcars became more popular. In the 1940s, there was a moveme...

I love the small town feel. Good stories by folks. The tank story was classic British. Lots of Corvettes. Like the drum major and band.Great Model A Ford. What's parade without Fire Trucks? Old cars are the best. 57' Chevy, my favorite.
What about the Jeeps?
@@Bayareaandbeyond777 Clearly lots of Jeeps!

When I worked at Apple in 2015 and 2016, my good coworker took me to see this museum. What a beautiful collection of machinery!
It's amazing that those cables go under the city and pull all those cable Cars. Thanks for watching.
Wow😮 amazing engineering
Wow! That's amazing! I like the electric motor driven cables. I'm surprised they are still in use today. Like the abstract art. That one car is like the trolley cars I rode in Dallas as a boy.
Yes, the motors are cool.
which political party manages the city?
I rode those trolley cars in Dallas growing up. Like the Ferris wheel at the pier. Dave and I took the Bay tour that went under the bridge and around Alcatraz. I can smell the ocean air. Thanks for the tour Paul!
I enjoyed exploring there
What happened to the place
@@raloufen4292 I have to admit that was eerie. Way too few people.
i was there in the mid 90's and it was wall to wall people, now it looks like a ghost town nice walk thru Paul
@freightdawg6762 It hasn't made a full recovery since the pandemic. Plus, this was the day after the election, so it was slow because of that. Thanks for watching.
Other countries won’t go to war , I will get pardon in statments in 2 months mark it. USA is the #1 killer of your own people other countries are to the level of saving usa ex citizens for how much usa has wars against themselves. Your career jobs are a joke. DONT believe.
Wow.good engineer.😂😂
love your videos - keep it up - thanks from a fellow Bay Area resident/happy dweller/TH-camr
@@HipHopSlam Thank you so much. I appreciate it. Thanks for watching.
Looks like the restoration is going swimmingly. 🤦
There are locomotives all over the country, just like this one. It's very expensive to fully restore one to operating condition.
Exactly! Which is why it was such fabulous news that the restoration of this Climax was announced a couple of years ago. And we've had NO updates since. Such a tease.
@tomlebudzinski7716 I had no idea of that. Hopefully, it will happen.
Thank you for including our Halloween House in your video! Was a great surprise! And we love your Halloween transportation. Really fantastic!
I'm glad you enjoyed my video. The motorcycle guy wasn't me, but he was amazing to see. What house is yours?
Motorcycle guy came by our house. I am the corner house in Novato, with the tents throughout my property. I think I was your first video. I had the front animatronics of Wednesday, Cousin It, etc. Thank you!
@@DeniseManning-e8u Your house is amazing. The amount of time and energy you put into decorating it is also impressive. Thank you!
1.2 million pounds! Never heard of tons?

Great video. I was the zombie chef in the beginning at Marcello’s Pizza.
@@saramcnulty246 You had a great costume. Thanks for watching.
Great costumes this year! Like the snail. Frogs are cool. Chu Baka was real! LED wings are nice. I miss being there!

Very elaborate! Lots of people participating in the terror. Quite long as well. Must have been expensive.
it’s only 25$ 💀
@woodypope7421 The price was $25 A good deal for the experience. It was about 25 minutes long.
I want one! Is it at the Amazon store?
Man that is pretty. Respect the engineers. Wow
Great history. Fake news goes way back. I used a slide rule in college and after until calculators came about in the 70's. Great sneak attack story.
Did anyone see a movie with Buster Keaton sitting on a driver rod while train was going very slow? It made me laugh, the way he'd go up & down with it!😅😂❤😊

I say that the old version was way better and more creepier. I wish they hadn't changed it. I mean this one is ok but the other was way more terrifying and it had such a nostalgia factor on me as a kid.
@@_captain_N I agree the old one was classic. I remember riding it when I was a kid with my older brother.
they ruined a perfectly good ride. everything that was so good about the original version was flushed down the toilet with this version.
I love how the wheels sometimes slide !! 😂
@@yanceydavenport8657 A million pounds of slip.
I enjoyed that Paul and Ryan. Maybe take a video while on the bay tour boat as it goes right up under the GG Bridge. Dave and I took it once. It's time for a Halloween tour,
Maybe someday we will.
What a beautiful day! Yes, watch out for the birds!😂🏃🏻♂️💨🦅
I used to drive by the Union Pacific yard and shops in Cheyenne WY where 4014 was restored. Quite an operation. Wish I could have toured the shop while she was being worked on. WOW 🤩
@@topturretgunner That would have been so cool to tour the yard.
@@Bayareaandbeyond777 Absolutely 👍🏻. I’ve had a fascination with steam locomotives since childhood. I’m north of 72 now and guess what? That fascination hasn’t diminished!
@topturretgunner Me too. When I was 5, I lived by a crossing and would ride my bike to watch them go by. Check out my Roots of Motive Power video. That place is amazing.
That’s over 100 tons of brute power. The pinnacle of steam powered locomotives.

@mariahw7030 I was surprised, too Thanks for your comment.
Great sculpture Pail. I like them all!
I've visited Bolinas beach and sat on the bench on the entrance to the beach at night watching the light on the waves.

Thanks for stopping (in hot weather too!) & describing each art piece there! I drive past all the time, & see the 'horse' reared up-but not walk through yet! I will at some point 😊
To get on is it with the bracelet? or do you pay cash?
You can buy tickets for each ride or get a wrist band for the day. All the information is on their website.
Another bit of trivia: A very rare piece of footage of the launching of real Nike missiles was shown in Episode 5 of Spielvan, an 80s Japanese show
@kimjongoof5000 Maybe in Godzilla movies, too.
