You could maybe put down a layer of XPS Foam Board as well to: 1) help protect the vapor barrier, and 2) add extra insulation to protect from thermal loss through the ground.
Great video. Out of curiosity, what was your rationale for having a crawlspace? Was the site uneven? Will the sidewalls be exposed? I like the concept of a post frame building, but do not prefer the slab on grade look where the inside isnlwvel with the outside. Would prefer the floor be raised at least 3ft off the ground. Your channel was the 1st hit in my google search for a crawl space barndominium so i will be following diligentlynow.
Thanks for watching and the comment. Alexander County is in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and our build site required cutting the front down and moving this fill to the backside to get a level build site. This resulted in our compaction test to be borderline acceptable for a slab. By going with a crawl it allowed the footer to be set on undisturbed soil so we can be sure the soil will support the building. If you watch some of the previous videos it will give you a look at my thought process and how we made the decision to go crawl. Hope that answers your question.
Hey man, hope you're doing good. Too bad those concrete guys left you a mess. I know how it is when you pay people to do something and then on a scale of 1 to 10 it's usually about a 6.5. You got to come in and make it a 9.5. I finally got my metal batten board siding done. I built a small house because I figured it would be easier but it's the same amount of work. After doing my crawl space I've became a real fan of slab on grade. It actually came out pretty good. I'm just not a fan of having spiders and bugs just below my Advantech. The build looks great. You're doing a great job! I love when a contractor tells me...that's how we've always done it. Nobody tries to figure out a better way. I think if construction guys built trucks, we would still have stone wheels because that's how we've always done it.
There are a lot of contractors out there with the thought of “let the next subcontractor worry about it, we have done our part”. A crawlspace was not our first choice of foundation style either but I think the key with them is you have to treat it like a mini-basement to get good results. The old way of venting them just isn’t a good design. I hope ours turns out the way I am planning.

That’s a good thought. I will definitely consider that option. Thanks for the suggestion!
