@@dukeofthebump that's true but also I believe he has safety measures sort of implemented in his warehouse? at least in the old warehouse he was at, you can see he had a fire extinguisher right beside the filming desk
It definitely didn't. It was the evolution of small tape recorders. I remember them with a miniature tape inside. For both dictation and recording phone calls. Pretty nifty little things and why you phone also have a voice recorder built in

Seriously, in 2004 to have a device that can play MPEG4 files and music, on a TV screen via Composite or apparently even Component out, that small with the ability to add your own laptop hard drive (say you just upgraded a 10GB drive to a 20GB drive, 10GB of media storage practically free!) which would've no doubt made this quite cheap sounds awesome. No need to lug around your DVD collection to watch movies on a Hotel TV or in a car with headrest displays/built-in video inputs or even just on your TV or a friends TV, in 2004. Not bad if it worked well enough! It's not a portable music player, more of a portable home theater playback device
Oh hay I have that thing. Actually works well, and supports 1080 just like it says. Def not one of the earliest, probably came out closer to the end of the dedicated-device era.
I mean, if it *could*. That PCB looks really empty. I have no idea what's on the back of it, but just seeing some ports and a parallel connector for an old HDD is not instilling me with confidence.
People pirating movies back then had a computer which could be hooked up to the TV so this device would have limited uses unless it was for portability which is where a laptop comes in with the ability to play a wider range of formats. They even had video cards with composite video and component outputs so you didn't even need an adaptor.

FYI - it's not only about storage or 256gb.. It might also be the FORMAT. When you format, you can choose fat32 or ntfs (2 most common). Fat32 cannot read big files above 4gb.. That is why your (and most new) are formatted NTFS.. But old players will not read the files inside because of the formatting of the storage. Hope it helps with future testing (fixed ntfs thx to reply)
It isn't the formatting ether, it's the SD card it's self. Devices made before SDHC came around in 2006 and even some after are only compatible with the original SD specification which goes up to 2GB and a higher capacity card can't be formatted to work with older devices. Same goes with putting an SDXC card in a device that's compatible with SDHC. The only solution is getting the lower capacity 2GB card which is always guaranteed to work while having the most storage without going over what will work with older devices.
@@blazernitrox6329 That's because a lot of these devices were made before SDHC cards were a thing therefore couldn't implement a SD specification that didn't exist yet. Even after it came out, it took time for it to catch on. I have a Dell monitor from 2006 when SDHC came out and even that can't read anything above 2gb but my tablet from just a year later can read a 128GB SD card after a firmware update.
