First thing for me to go bad was the OBDII adapter. Then it could only talk to GMT900s, not 800s and earlier types, that turned out to be the VCI module. The RTC (Real Time Clock) within the Tech-2 failed but unit works fine. Next, we replaced the cables and the CanDi module and finally had to get a new PCMCIA card. Only thing original is the Tech-2 itself! Great machine, don't like the MDI and laptop for road tests!

I’m trying to add steering controls to my 04 Silverado I’ve been through Acdelco and gotten my rpo codes modified for the steering controls and driver info center, but when I go to apply then through the tech 2 software I get the e4491 error and it won’t program the bcm. I had a hard code on my sdm so I sent that off to get reset and I’m going to try to program the modules again, if that does not work is there any other ideas you have to get this to work?

The E4491 Tech2 error code can be caused by a non-GM accessory/device/module installed in the vehicle that has access to the communications network. Remove, or disconnect, any such devices and retry is one suggestion. It can also be caused by using used/salvage modules rather than new ones (these older modules can be hit or miss at overwriting existing data) as GM does not support reuse of modules across different VINs. If applicable, you may want to retry with brand new steering control / DIC modules instead.
