Thank you for the introduction of your system, it is very nice. I fully agree with you about the cables and it's nice to hear from someone having such a system and who is a designer of such nice and professional electronics. I would still be interested in your cables to get some hint of budget, but correct interconnects and speaker cables. Thank you!
I love (and agree with!) your comment on interconnects. 😎👍 As a fellow EE, I also love the elegance and symmetry of your all-balanced, zero-feedback, vacuum tube circuit designs. I can't afford gear at that level, so I'll probably never be able to give any kind of opinion about the sound, but just from an engineering standpoint, it's wonderful to see a variety of design philosophies. 👍✅
Thank you for a most entertaining introduction to your excellent audio heaven. It should be indexed and become a reference standard for the sensible and discerning audiophile.
I was at the Toronto Audiofest..and what caused a buzz as far as the attendees were concerned…not a high dollar streamer…nor even turntables (costing more than my first home) ..but those few rooms running a Reel To Reel as a source …the beauty of those big spinning wheels is undeniable great video..and I’m very envious of your set up Have a great week.🥃
There is no question, the spinning reels can be mesmerizing... and the faster the merrier. No streamer can compete with it. That room, by the way, has a large pull-down screen and a very nice Sony projector, so perhaps some oversized spinning reels videos would be nice as a background. :) I If I could figure out how to link it... :( I could use a grandson to do that. :)
Next level vintage gear indeed! Def not in the same league, but Ive been sitting on a TEAC A-7300 (mid-70s) for some time now. Waiting for a chance to get me some reels, and time to really sit with it and finally see what all this R2R fuss has been about my whole life.
A-7300 is a very nice machine, as long as it is in good shape. You might consider letting some technician check and tune it, it will make great difference.
Surprised to see you stacked the REX control module on top of VK50SE. No need to turn on your central home heating in the Winter when the music is playing. Very nice system
He-he... they do run warm, but I can always write it off as long term stress test. :) BTW, that VK-50SE with a 24 carat gold plated model badge is the only one in existence. It is also the only one modified to run on 12 6H30 tubes, instead of the usual 8, by using an external auxiliary power supply. :)
Super interesting walk through of your set-up. Would you be kind to elaborate a little on the selector unit? Does it do anything to the signal? Any tubes in there?
The three preselectors are all full function preamps, so you could connect them to the power amps, but in this case the signal is taken from their input selector, before it gets to their gain stages. So yes, there are the tubes in the VK-50SE, the other two are solid state models.
@@larsholst6216 The preselector preamp you can see in the video is of course the VK-50SE, it is a tube model. The other one is the VK-43SE, and that was the production top of the line solid state preamp. The last one was a prototype of the lower cost solid state preamp with all XLR inputs/outputs. It later went into production as VK-20, but had a mix of XLR and RCA connectors, which was deemed more appropriate for the lower cost systems. It actually has a very good voice, I might do a video on it getting the signal from the Studer A80 and sending it directly to the power amps. That little solid state preamp actually generated very nice response... unfortunately... or fortunately... most people would shoot for the top models, in this case the VK-40. www.stereotimes.com/post/balanced-audio-technology-vk20-solid-state-preamplifier/
Thank you! The idea of getting rid of negative feedback in the M7 is an interesting one, but the 12AX7 causes me some concerns in that regard. There is too much gain and it can be hard to control. If you decide to investigate that approach I would consider reducing the plate resistors and the plate voltage, and perhaps replacing the tubes with a different type.
that is an interesting concept. Then add a passive IEC eq section. One other thought would be to build a much larger power supply with oversized transformer and extra filtering caps. BTW, I followed @foxbats suggestion on trying this model as a tape head preamp and ordered one of these units complete from Aliexpress. Now waiting for it to show up.

I’ve never clicked the “like” button faster. This room very accurately represents what heaven looks like in my mind.
LOL! You guys! :)
Extraordinary system!

@@Foxbat9000 W/o a shadow of a doubt I will, thanks
So natural sounding. Thanks for sharing!
very cool video. Thank you for sharing and posting. You have many more options for sources than most folks. I only have 3. Vinyl, and 2 tape decks.

Oh............. I see.
Thanks a lot.
I would have see the rear side. I can search google.
But what model is it exactly?
