      Hank is on a different level lol.
      Most TH-camrs will avoid talking about their finances because their advertisers will start fixing prices, which in turn will reduce their sponsorship revenue.
      Having greater notability than most content creators, Hank has more bargaining power with sponsors. ♥

      they're just quite clearly trying to take over the other's strenths. Tiktok is hoping to re-educate the younger generations to only use Tiktok and have them not engage with TH-cam in the first place, while TH-cam feels threatened by the surge of Tiktok and as an established platform, tries to maintain the status quo by providing the features of the competitor, so there's not a need for users to engage with Tiktok. I do think there are creators who really use shorts to their advantage. If you just have an idea for a very short joke you can do really fun stuff for a short instead of having to either drag it out or making it bigger than initially intended.
      But I also never scroll through shorts. I just open my homepage and if I think I'll like a short recommended, I'll open it, watch it and then return to the homepage immediately. I think short form swipable content is honestly a huge issue. I know for me, someone in my late 20s i notice that short form content zones me out in a very creepy way. I can click off a TH-cam video or get off of other SM apps but Shortform content really feels like it hijacks my brain and makes it honestly difficult to click away. I can FEEL the algorithm trying to keep me watching and i think that is going to have longterm effects on human attention spans.

    It's strange hearing that Tiktok is incentivizing longer content, since most of the complaints I ever hear regarding Tiktok was that the allowed lengths of videos was just... way too long. To be fair, the dialogue surrounding this was still more in terms of comparing it to Vine, and people at the time were largely using it sort of like a successor to Vine, at which it was failing miserably because without the shorter time limit people were dragging jokes out far beyond their entertainment value. But even now I see complaints from people because they are expecting short-form content and don't want creators to treat the app like a second version of TH-cam where they can just host storytimes or vlogs. People talk about how Tiktok is rotting people's attention spans, and to an extent I'm sure it's true, but really, people were largely always unwilling to engage with longer content on Tiktok, probably for the same reason that you wouldn't go on Tumblr to see some model post photos of themselves on vacation. It's just not what you open the app for.

      I like the ten-minute videos when it's a slightly deeper dive into a topic or educational. I don't like the ones where it's just someone taking about their life for ten minutes. I also wish it was easier to see how long a video is upfront because there are times when I'm there for the shorter ones, and it's helpful to know what I'm in for. I was in this marketing program with kids that was making thousands every week. it lasted for about three months. People was making money off of Facebook promote button on their personal profiles. We will make a post and simply just press promote on Facebook and the reach you would get for only five dollars was crazy. For five dollars, You could get 5 to 10 sign-ups. I think that the problem with people doing TH-cam, or any type of content creation, is lack of strategy. They come up with ideas and upload them and post them straight away. They may be motivated for a couple months and may upload 40 videos in that time. 40 videos could be 40 or 20 weeks instead of 2/3 months. Batch and post consistently (and use a little bit of Famester to make it even easier). Don't post everything straight away post it on the same day/time every week. This also helps avoid burn out...

    i mean, i hate my issues with meta, but as someone who does socials for a living (on a marketing level, not a creator), it's easier to just go and set it up then leave the platform. with tiktok, i feel stuck in a horrible loop of false information about many different topics. and it's so much harder to actually get the algorithm in your favor, because it keeps pushing you semi-related content. it's probably great for rabbit holes, but ugh. on yt shorts, i see clips of comtent creators I usually watch (i get a lot of gmm shorts).
    if anything, the rise of tiktok and it's neverending feed machine made me so upset that j lowkey stopped using social media. it's like reddit for gen z, aka awful.
    now that i know how much money tiktoks can make from rage watching, i'll likely never going back. glad you're making cash, but like, that means creators i hate also benefit more than they did before. thanks but no thanks.
    ps: everyone should watch safiya's video on TikTok shop fakes

    • @gchungus
      @gchungus 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Unfortunately on the creator side of things, the Instagram/meta experience is not great. The algorithm changes frequently and pushes ads aggressively, so it's hard to get consistent engagement. I'm an artist, and Instagram was falling behind Twitter (before Elon) because all of a sudden you'd get 12 likes on something you used to get hundreds on, and at some point it stopped showing people your posts.
      As a user, it's also impossible to find things on instagram -- tik tok has a great search function at least, while Instagram has been nerfing their hashtags and search function for years now.
      Honestly, both platforms suck for me, especially because Insta is pushing reels so much, same ragebait content and inflammatory comments...
      Ps I watched safiyas vid a while ago and it was honestly insane. I see it everywhere now, even Amazon has been turning into cheap fakes recently

Running that every day (or even multiple times per day) would get you a daily (or more) datapoint for every video, allowing you to then pull all data points by video. The problem is, of course, that uncreative people can churn out content much more selling the seaweed pills, Temu quality clothes and whatever else is available for drop shipping at click of a button. That will give TikTok shop bad reputation very fast. Non-creative can shill 10 different products a day while creative often only has a new product to shill every few weeks or months, and even shilling once a day won't be noticeable in the flood.
