Your explanation, using the paper tube, of sound post leaning and changing contact point was very simply and perfectly done. Kinda never would of thought of it but makes all the sense in the world once I heard it. For the great video, Thanks !

You didn't mention the importance of the position, behind the bridge foot it should be. Also, the effect of it being closer to the E or to the G string. I've heard you talk about that on a different video. And it's not easy to get it perfect, I use the instrument, that shows the height to make the post, and how far in the post should be. Still, the post will twist, when having to move it just a bit. I'm going to start using two strings, tide to the post, then pulled into position, through the F holes.

Your explanation of soundpost trim one of the best ive seen! Did not know the Lipstick trick! Guess it would really let you know where it had been!😅 ha ha! But then you gotta drag out a dental mirror and place inside the f hole? Or take out end button to sight the location? Wow very involved! Thanks for explanation! Most greatful!😅

Cutting the bridge is comparably easy because you can immediately see what you're doing.
With the soundpost, everything is hidden and you must use mirrors, look through the end button and double and triple check.
So why don't more luthiers do it? Well, the good ones do. But the rest?
I think fitting and setting the soundpost is the final litmus test for perception, dexterity and patience.
It really shows if you're made for this job or not. Whoever has keen eyes and a deft hand will learn fast.

Hi Edgar, love your videos! Thanks so much for educating us. Someone once mentioned that the hole created by the soundpost setter badly affects the sound and it is better to use a setter that does not make this hole. What is your experience?

?i will let the lower part almost plan but the upperpater an quater milimeter lower on the render then the the midl ust light round so it get presure from up and wotrks in the wood persured the rest is form not physical.

Hello Edgar sir, can a soundpost be too short,…and what are the consequences? My soundpost tents to fall down very easily when loosening the strings…that can’t be good, right? Best regards!

I'm surprised that no one has answered this yet? The answer is, Yes of course. I'm sure Edgar talks about this in other videos but it is pretty obvious why this is a bad thing. The two obvious ones that come to mind are, 1, it's pretty impossible to hold the post in the correct place if it is too short whilst not under string tension. 2. The post does give the top (or table) some support whilst under string tension, so if it is drastically too short there could be a chance that the top may become overly flat or even concave or even split due to lack of support from the stronger maple back.
