You are representing a solid brand. We just recently purchased a 15 yr old Selene 59, that needed some mechanical TLC. As the various seasoned contractors were aboard the vessel to remove one of the engines, along with other components, through the saloon and tender hatches, they were all quite impressed with the strength and quality of construction. As an example, the ship rights, who are familiar with Selene competitors, were very impressed with the 4 drains hidden in the upper hatches, to ensure no water ever entered the salon. They said it is quality like that throughout that makes this vessel shine. I am sure all your future clients will be proud owners of a solid impressive Selene, who appreciate top notch workmanship from the mold to the fit & finish. Congratulations Jeff.
Thank you very much for your encouragement and congratulations. I'm eager to continue spreading the word of the quality and value of the Selene brand. That is a great story and shows the strength of the brand. Would love to connect with you directly if you are available to email or talk. Your note is very much appreciated.
It was nice seeing you around the Selene rendezvous interacting with all the owners. And, very happy that you are involved with Selene Americas selling these fantastic and beautiful boats.
Frank: Thank you, but no bravery necessary. We had a wonderful visit, very safe and secure. Modern amenities, amazing hospitality, very Western and friendly. Classic example of seeing for yourself instead of believing what others or the media says. I would not hesitate to recommend a visit to Jet-Tern in Zhuhai and look forward to my next visits with clients on new builds .
Great video Jeff, Selene Trawlers has been one of my favorite yachts for some time. I know there are variables, but about how long does it take for a build? Thanks Jeff.
Elroy: Thank you! The construction from gelcoat in the hull mold to finished vessel ready to leave the yard is about one year, plus - depends upon the size of the Selene and order details. Production start days can also vary depending upon how many other orders have been placed before your hull will begin. Happy to discuss a specific model with you by direct correspondence, if you are just looking for general information I'll stick with no sooner than a year from start to finish, then you need to ship the vessel, commission, deliver, etc.
Poon Tang: 1.5% duty and 25% tariff does not apply to US provided equipment like John Deere engines and more. Selene is very comfortable in China as are many other builders. The people are amazing and the quality of the builds are phenomenal, no reason to relocate, in fact, they are expanding their production facilities.
What John Deere engine would have been installed in my 43 Selene. I have been having a problem with my Cummins. A Cummins engineer will be at my boat in the next two weeks. They say it has “ ghost voltage “ what ever that is. Bill Quinlan
Bill: Thank you for your note and I'm sorry you are having issues with your Cummins. I'll try to give you a ring by phone to discuss and see if I can help. Cheers, Jeff
your not escaping the tariffs BUT your only paying then on the portion of the boat actually produced in china. basically labor, fiberglass and wood. everything else like engine, gen and all the components are not subject to tariffs. it ends up being a small portion of the overall cost of the boat.
Lighthouse: I think Kreations did a good job explaining. The tariffs are on new and used products built in China - at this stage, there is no avoiding if you want to import into the US stream of commerce. Are you looking to buy and bring to the US? Many Selenes have already paid the US duty, it is important to understand the status of each individual boat built in China before you try to import it.
Rana: There are many good boat builders around the world, including the US. It is not up to us to decide where to build, it is a large decision based on many factors. I have been to boat yards in Turkey and they do a great job. Same in Taiwan. I think it is silly for you to suggest I shouldn't promote boat building in one country vs. another. Where was the boat you own built?

Due to the 26.5 % Tariff, Nordhavn moved to Taiwan and Turkey. Will Salene do the same?

Has Selene escaped the china tariff?

Made in China?
Gasar: Yes. All Selenes to date have been built in China, over 450 total hulls.
Sorry, anywhere but China.
Ahmin: That is the only place they build Selene trawlers
Don’t promote to build boat by China. You can promote turkey to boat build 18:08
How is Turkey any better? They both have their problems.
