I love this AMP. Its clear, detailed and I wanted it for a 2.1 setup with the flexibility of bluetooth, wifi streaming and HDMI ARC... it ticks all those boxes. The lack of proper cooling is frustrating. I've had it on its side - I've used an extra fan to create extra airflow - currently its flat but lifted to allow airflow underneath. The fan kicks in randomly and is very obvious if you have any moments of quiet - its weird how it behaves because the fan kicks in and then turns off regularly. Your video has been useful as I had been thinking of replacing the fan inside with a more efficient one. I agree with others that the cooling is lacking and have no idea why its fan is programmed the way it is - if its turned off, the fan also stops. Not great. But, for all its faults, this AMP is amazing for its price. Love the sound, love its size, love the controls and controller it comes with. I actually don't want anything else but I am hoping they are making a V2 to address many of its cooling flaws. I would also like to see the software take another leap in customisation - but for simplicity it works - even my wife can use it without any hassle, and that is a mega bonus. Who knows - if I get a chance to take it apart and replace the fan (looking at a Noctua 12V), then I will post an update.
So, its been more than a year, and its out of warranty... Took the plunge and took apart the amp and replaced with Noctua NF-A4x10 FLX 12v fan... I had difficulty with having to manually swap the pins on the 2 pin extension, because its smaller than the supplied extension cable you get with it. Bit of surgery later and careful removing of the heat plate, the new fan is installed. Put back together, warmed it up over a couple of hours. Confirm I hear the fan spinning when right up next to it. I sit within a 2 metre range of it, and I would say it has easily reduced the sound by 50%. Rated at 17db on the box, I would say the original fan was doing 30-40db within a 2 metre range. Heat test - hand is warm on top and but not baking/scorching hot. For those looking to do similar - it is doable as long as you are comfortable with carefully unplugging conenction, getting to the 2nd layer, and removing the screws that hold the heat plate. I am a novice, and I'd say its a difficulty of about 3/5 - and I have done some electronic repairs in the past, but as long as you don't damage the ribbon cables at the back, its totally possible. Much happier with the results.

@@stefanegger hey - I've been running it like this for a couple of months with the new fan. To be honest, its not made a massive difference (other than the sound). Its actually well made to deal with heat - as the heat shield inside deflects all the heat upwards - and because the way the case is printed, all the heat is funnelled to the near front right corner, which is why it feels hot to the touch. Unless you have any noise concerns - I would not worry about modifying the fan. It still performs exactly as it did when I first bought it. If you still have concerns - I have seen the WiiM Amp has similar features that would be a suitable swap for this amp. I keep mine in a TV stand (with plenty of venting space) and its coping well.

Good video thank you. I have this and noticed it was getting hot at the front right corner, now it makes sense as that where those big capacitors are on the power board you showed. I’m using the KEF LS50 Meta speakers and REL T5i sub (with high level connection) with my one. Using HDMI connection helps earth the amp too, which is great when using a high level sub. It goes with ought saying, the audio quality is amazing. It reminds with of the Sonos Amp but has much more connectivity at the back and bluetooth.

I have this amp and am quite happy with it, but since two days ago, something strange has been happening, it's about listening through the Google homme application. The music I was listening to, at a level of 10-15%, and to achieve the same volume, now I have to adjust the Google homme application to a level of 30-40%. This is happening on Tidal, Deezer and TuneInRadio. I am interested in whether it is a problem with the amplifier, or maybe with the application or if Harman Kardon has installed a new version of the software Thanks and sorry for my bad English
Ok so I can tell it sounds brilliant with B&W 607 s2 speakers. BUT. My amp doesn't remember maximum volume setting. Every time I turn it on it's way too loud on Airplay. I don't even use 1/3 of the volume scale...
Eventually I bought this amp and I was pleased with sound quality and functionality, but, after one month of usage it started overheating and throwing errors (red led blinking) with clicking noise (you can find other users having same issues all over the web). They did replace it with new one which worked fine around 6 months but then started having same issues with red led status and clicking noise. I love this amp's functionality and sound, but it has major design flaw, unfortunately.
Hi! My amp same problem. Thermal throttling? I think we need a more efficient cooling. Factory cooling is a joke. This plastic box does not ventilate properly. Whoever designed this cooling did not test it, big mistake! I think I will design a new box for him, with good ventilation.
Why do you think it "started to overheat", I mean what did you change to make it overheat? What is the status now, did you get another one? Does it still work? Do you use it often (every day?) and for how long? Thanks.
@@stefanegger After second unit with same problem, I've replaced it with Bluesound Powernode. Powernode works great and zero problems over a year. Even HK acknowledged the problems with overheating I think they still didn't resolve that issue, unfortunately...
Will it increase sound quality in citation wireless series, i have soundbar and 2 towers.... it will connect through wisa ? Interesting how it is works.... through the air , better sound ?! Is it a new reality ?
No you can't use it with the soundbar or the tower. It's a stereo amplifier to drive any passive speakers. Takes citation sub via WiSA and it's Chromecast. Excellent product! for the money.
I have this Amp and each few seconds starts fan cooling and stop after 1-4 seconds. This do hours until Amp is turned off and this is on 0% power too. And next (but maybe, it is feature) is sound. With KEF Q300 is horrible, flat, without dynamic, without bass. While I test it, sometimes I cant hear, if output was from Amp, or from TV internal speakers, cant tell, if max/min bass settings on Amp I have. Much worse, than Yamaha WXA-50. I sent it to service, but they wrote me, that all is OK.
