When she disappears into that smoky donut so does all traces of balance along with her
"smoky donut" 😭
and you feel like a real shinobi !!!
you're a lillia you have AoE, just use it dude no need for precision when you hit a 1/4 of the screen
*Screw the Balance I have Smoke!*
@@albertoHammyer you sound like a salty Akali main, seriously tho just because 1 or 2 champs can deal with her shroud doesn't make the shroud balanced
Akali, one of those champions whose counterplay is "pray they don't know how to play it".
Or you know how she korks and avoid to fight her after she r cause you havd 2 seconds to run away
@@misterfacha7708 because it's so easy to avoid someone with 200+ dashes
you don't need to avoid her you can stop her in her tracks if you can predict and all
@@albertoHammyer her counter = being able to dodge and predict every engage she does... ah yes
She's pretty easy to counter when you actually know what her kit does
“akali is by far the hardest assassin in the game”
ok not like their ego is big enough already smh
Qiyana mains crying :P
I would say me ego okay but it can get big if I am mad or toxic when is not a lot :p
@justluck countless games of qiyana to even her being playable (getting one shotted as an assassin)... Sadge
@@ilyasssakat7446 Yeah, which is why they probably bristled when he said Akali was the hardest assassin XD.
@@coindroid7647 Qyiana is not that hard, her main combo is a literal automatic Point and click that you don't even need to AIM.. (EQ if you don't know, E+Q during the dash will make the skillshot automatically aim for you, it's almost impossible to dodge it)
Why EVERYONE plays X: because this champion does well on its own
Why NOONE plays X: because this champion helps the team
Its probably becuz players have this anime main character syndrome. Where they rather go alone an solo carry the game than help every one in the team cuz they'd rather win the game asap.
Its kinda sad for us solo players...
@@azertykeys9011 Human beings have had "anime main character syndrome" since the dawn of fucking mankind.
@@azertykeys9011 that or it's because soloQ require consistency and having a champion reliant on the team to do his things adds an element of inconsistency to games.
That said, I still play team reliant champions like Shen, statistically there will probably be at least one guy in your team worth backing up (hopefully not the support.)
@@HamsterPants522 Not us supports.
@@KuyruksuzSatyr Even supports have been tuned over the years to be less team reliant, though. There's a reason almost every new support has at least one ability built for catching people. It's a lot harder to mess up a kill opportunity where the support stuns someone for you than when they just cast some buffs and leave the rest to you.
You forgot to mention K/DA. Don't underestimate how much those music videos and skins inspired people to play her.
He only talk about gameplay. Saying "Yasuo/Yone are popular cuz they are edgy" is not a good content.
@@carnivorze1052 Of course that wouldn't be good content on its own, and gameplay does take precedence over anything else, but my point is that character design, thematics, skins and marketing do contribute to a champion's popularity, or lack of. It wouldn't hurt for Vars to talk about these aspects.
@@carnivorze1052 But why a lot of people play certain champions also contributed by their marketing. Gameplay alone does not influence a champion's popularity.
@@carnivorze1052 Sadly, a lot of people go "Because edgy samurai. There, saved you 16 minutes". :(
@@VarsVerum And that's why your explanations are the best on TH-cam. You take the characteristics of a champion in his gameplay to find implied explanations of why people like one champion over another.
video suggestion: why is fizz still in the game
Sounds fair
@Arjun Baweja it's just that he also has an ability which has nearly 0 counterplay to it. There will always be counterplay but his playfull Trickster in combination with his ult is just mheee/unfair (adc main)
Just like Vars said in the video, 2nd most hated mechanic, invisibility, and numbero uno is untargetability. It's honestly stupid, I agree, but fizz isn't really broken, he just has a mechanic that requires experience to deal with.
@Arjun Baweja everyone has but he is even worse than akali
@@asukakang821 I believe his damage needs a nerf but his abilities should stay the same. He should have to play with some semblance of strategy and multiple abilities to get the kill.
Old Akali will always have a special place in my heart since she’s the champ I got my first pentakill on

He doesn't seem to have the same features and mechanics and flashy combos and 1v5 potential of others in the series, so I'd love to see your take on why he's so popular.
Tf has insane map pressure, his ult is an insane tool and point and click stun (yellow card) is free setup. High Elo players drool over that kind of stuff.
Auto attack stun
Tf is such a well made champ tbh
Even after all these years hes still viable i mean just look at his passive lol

akalis w is the fairest and most balanced ability ever made

Akali W, Yasuo W, Samira W and Gwen W, the Four Horsemen of Balance
@@michaandrzejsigismundfreih7900 gwen w isnt that good while yes it make untargtabel by evrything outside most melle character dont care
@@godofpotatos96 It mostly feels like this because the rest of Gwens kit is underwhelming. Her W on its own is one of the strongest base abilities.
@@michaandrzejsigismundfreih7900 i mean putting in the same boat with akalis w that has like no counter play yasuo wthat becomes bigger the more points and it protecs all his team and samiras w being that but weaker doesnt seem logical
@@godofpotatos96 her w does have counter play though massive aoe abilites anivia ult, garen spin, shyv dragon breath, fiddle ult, tf ult, morg, viegar wall, ect can all push akali out of the stealth or they are gonna take alot of damage. also treat is like illoi ult when it goes down your team should try and move away from it(not always practicle or matter if you are squish adc) but if you move away from it and push for a fighter after it has a 20 cd that she cant use it. And you can use orcles lens to see where she is at for skill shots.
So there are some methods of dealing with her but your team has to adapt to be able to ajdust and focus on counter her (which can be a problem with pugs).
"Giant smokey donut" I don't think I can call it anything else from now on, well done sir
I actually liked her old kit, one of the rare hybrid champs and that Shadow dash ability was really fun to use.
Akali was the second champ I picked up in League. I played about 15-20 levels on JInx, (enough to understand basic game loop for someone with no prior LoL/Moba knowledge), then picked up Akali because she seemed fun. I had no idea that she would be such a difficult player, and I basically learned the game with my first ~100k mastery on her. Certainly was a difficult task, especially because it led to a lot of negative KDAs and things of the like. But now, I have a 60% winrate on her in midlane (300 games.)
Still unranked and likely bronze tho.
Akali is the only champion in the game that you feel sorry for getting so many nerfs
*But then you play against her*
And Aurelion Sol, Taliyah, Azir ? There are really bad and Riot still nerf them.
People feel bad for Akali being nerfed?
Must be Akali mains.
@@carnivorze1052 remenber when riot literally said they didnt know how to balance azir and kalista and just gave up on then? yeah, balance.
@@TaconIStenen dude I never played akali, but I have friends that play her and frequently 1v1 them, yet I'm still sad for the nerfs because she doesn't befome weaker per say, just more limited in the ways seh can act, she's not weaker she's more predictable wich make 1v1 really easy
@@albertoHammyer ok and? League isn’t a 1v1 game, it’s a teamgame.
if akali went from why no one plays to why everyone plays maybe there should be a 3rd category called what happened to (champion) it just sounds a little more accurate
I play Ahri so I never had an issue landing against Akali but the last 3 weeks I tried to play Akalia and tbh she's so fun to play and she has a lot of damage which why I started to learn her.
Yes, she has the most combos in the Game. Have fun learning her, it pays off.
I honestly liked the old Akali
Not because the design or playstyle was better, but because it was so satisfying getting fed and throwing a Q at an ADC and then one-shotting them with Ult + Gunblade + Lich Bane + Q proc.
OLD AKALI WAS MY FAVE CHAMP SAME AS ORIANNA, OLD AKALI WILL ALWAYS HAVE A SPECIAL PALCE IN ME HEART

I started playing akali when she was just sitting around like 44% wr or so because I got blood moon akali and then really liked her

Thanks Nel! It's a lot of work but I'm doing my best :D
I started playing her about 3 months ago and right now she's the only reason why I play league of legends. She is so fun to play and so satisfying. Ironically, I prefer to play her when she's nerfed to the ground. She's currently considered one of the worst champion in the mid/top lane (patch 11.17) and being able to perform on her despite that makes it even more satisfying. She's also never picked or banned so I can always play her.
Great video keep up the good work.
She has a lot of pick and ban rate what do you mean and its fun because its overpowered.
@@gukagobronidze6102 salty?
There was a time when I mained old Akali and was pretty good at using her. I haven't played League since late 2015 so it's one of the things I miss the most in the game.
As someone who mains akali, you're pretty accurate on why I play her
6:30 that moment as an new akali player was amazing. had me hyped with the perfect execute ulti.
I MISS TANK AKALI i thought i was the only one who remembers
I still play tank Akali just to troll my friends ahahah
I don't.
sunfire rush 😭😭 it was so fun to curb stomp yasuo with e max
Tankakali still works rn
Old akali was insane. her Mobility through her Ult in combination with a ward was out of this world. it was a very simple high dmg assassin, Point and click basically everything. once you bought her gun blade she was unstopebil. Q > R > E > R and most mid lane champions were dead, and from that point you could snow ball so hard that the game was over. if you know how to play old akali she was one of the most fun champions in all of lol.
8:17 Urf Akali is a nightmare for a reason
Akali is one of the few assassins really enjoy playing. She just feels so fluent and her combos are super satisfying. Personally I've never had a problem with laning against her but I can understand why its annoying. I am glad you pointed out that she isnt the easiest champ like so many people claim X_X

I played Akali on top a couple times and I pretty much just always feed my ass off and then ask myself: "how is she broken? How come when they play Akali she takes my health bar and throws it into the trash but when I play akali, I barely do more damage than a super minion?" Guess I was on auto-pilot that day.
Great video, really makes me feel like I'm Akali. Also, shoutouts to the Urgot who teleported to tower at 1:47
My brain get shut down when I try to play Akali. She's just too hard for me. So yeah, I respect Akali mains, and also Aphelios. Those champs are hard af.

@@SaiKisaragi I think Aphelios is not hard as his combo is easier than Akali, Riven, Zed. But his new UI and tons of gun is what make him complicated and hard af ._.
@@tripleD2301 well, as a person who plays TF2, UI isn't really much to get used to (I mod my ui alot). He only has 5 guns. That's 2 more than Jinx, so pretty easy if you ask me~
Urgot in the clip at 1:48: My goals are beyond your understanding
One of the most infuriating things about her was how she’d use Q and passive and literally never run out of energy while also having high burst with her e and ult, it felt like she had no weaknesses. Also who remembers off tank / ad top lane Akali? Very fun champ to play, so infuriating to fight.
Edit: autocorrect is bish
They removed the energy restore of a passive and I agree, it was making her DPS kinda ridiculous.
Skill FLOOR is more important than skill ceiling. I think people talk about champion difficulty a lot without really taking that into account. Riven has a very high skill FLOOR, to get the basics of playing at a level equivalent to your average elo on other champions takes a lot of time. Lots of popular champions have one thing in common, it’s not that hard to play them passably. Yone and Akali fit this pretty well. They have a fairly average skill floor but an uncapped skill ceiling. The thing that makes a champion insanely popular champs is that they’re EASY To pick up but HARD TO MASTER.
I miss old times when Zed was the most op assassin in the game.
If you're playing Veigar he might as well be
@@minimoYT Well Zed Katarina and Fizz just hard counter Veigar because his kit is a bit one dimensional and they happen to have the perfect tools to counter it, but most champions are either less one dimensional than Veigar or they are better because their numbers allow them to not suck (like garen, who has unreasonable base values so that his one dimensional gameplay is still strong).
I don't really play assassins, but Akali is my favourite assassin to play. She's really fun and satisfying.
As a former akali main myself. Akali can be very frustrating to play against and it's not usually frustrating to play her, but because people doesn't know how to punish little mistakes and use them on your benefit. In early poke her hard af if you're ranged. If you're melee win lane in rotations. If she doesn't get rolling with rotations she can get very useless in the mid game. Because las rework makes her a late beast. Don't let her farm or get experience, if your damage is higher early on keep farming and keeping her out of xp range. Just a couple tips.
As person who got into the game on season 9, Akali was one of if not my most favorite champion before her rework. Although she was clunky and had problems with being an Assassin I loved the character.
However when I noticed she got a rework those coming months after picking up the game I was very happy to see the champion I used very often to receive a rework. Ever since then, I have mained Akali and I have Mastery 7 at 256,000 Points roughly.
I agree with lots of the reasons you made in this video, and I'm glad to see Akali being put into a good light of showing the amount of skill needed to pull off such a diverse character in terms of fighting. Akali in my opinion is one of the most exhilarating characters to play in league and I've never dropped her since.
Anyways, I love your videos Vars! Happy to see that today was Akali's video as I practically binged your 'Why no one plays' and 'Why everyone plays' series.
As for potential people looking to see my profile, My Riot ID is Filiabanki.
Bro I love just cause of the Forest kingdom theme you got in the background
Instant like
It’s funny cause I’m playing Neir:Autómata rn and Im so exited for the replicant remake
I’m glad to see a lot of positivity in this seeing as akali is very skill expressive and fun to play. Obviously the champ is annoying and frustrating to deal with but that is a very common issue with playmaking champs in general. Great video keep up the great content
Damn. Every time I watch a why everyone plays you REALLY make me wanna go 0/8 in soloq with these champs as soon as the video ends. Great job!
With her buffs a few patches ago the title is accurate but before that I can remember that her playrate was pretty low
I just love her and how she runs up on people and kills them with her 5 point strike or her blade and let’s not forget her talented speed and kill move
The kda songs probably just hyped her up more-
*me, being patient with the 2nd dash on her ult*
Hold, HOLD, HOOOOOLD, GO!
As an Akali One Trick I have to say that I liked the Old one for sure but the Rework is just so much better and much more fun if you know what youre doing.

Do you plan on doing a "Why EVERYONE Plays: Katarina"?
It’s too obvious why xD
Just get one kill in teamfight and you get insta penta. Unless the champs you’re facing is so fcking tanky and have a shitton of CC
she's average on pickrate tho and mainly otps
death by a thousand cuts more like death by 2 q's
the thing i love about playing akali is how fun it is. i feel like more than winrate, my enjoyment of a champion’s mechanics influence me to play them more. after all this is a videogame
Vars naming why she is more popular then other champions.
Also Vars: “names all the champions all used to main”…
The amount of compliments he gave akali players really boosted my ego :)
Everyone knows. This champion exist for boosting ego. Unfair to play against, which lets you to outplay way better player than you almost automatically. Cheaters also like cheating cause it's so egoboosting. When you are playing her it have to feel like you are better than others. Like you can do what others can. Cause many, many things which are mistakes when you do them as other champion are not mistakes when you do them as an Akali. Nice, legal cheating.

Can you possibly do Why everyone plays: Ahri next?
her thematic, her easy playstyle but challenging mechanics, her character and her versatility in mid. She can be a mage while being an assassin
Which is funny because she sells skins, but play rate is super middle of the board and she's never super strong nor fairly weak.
@@amandaslough125 Everything you coukd ever ask for in a champion
Oddly enough it's rare to see Ahri players. She's one of those champs who don't do exceedingly well unless they really know what they're doing.

Can I just say, that Shen also doesn't feel like a ninja, but w/e lol
neither does kennen.
Waiting for Why no one plays Quinn& Ornn, two champs i really like yet never see in my games except when im playing them
Everyone seems to hate Akali, but as an ADC main Akali is actually one of the assassins I don't hate playing against. She doesn't have the same level of stupidly high frontloaded burst as champions like Zed, Fizz, or Rengar. She does have comparable burst to them, but hers requires a lot more skill expression than just pressing r while right clicking the enemy adc. This creates a lot more space for counterplay imo. You know she has to step out of her circle when she q's you, so you have a second or two to maneuver. Her R1 doesn't deal that much damage, so you have another second to prepare for her second R. Her shroud is definitely the thing that makes her unfun to play against, but it's not nearly as bad as it used to be.
The fact that she has 3 dashes + flash, good burst, incredible dps, the best 1v9 carry potential of all assasins, stealth and beeing usually played by smurfs makes it just very hard to deal with her
Oh To Be Able To Play old Akali Again... I Miss Olden League...
As an Akali otp I do appreciate this video and love it
As a top main, please play her mid
Ok I hope that you're ok with feedback bc there's been something off with the some of the videos. First off I want to say I really like the concept of these videos and I think that they have the potential to be really really good. That being said, I've noticed with this video, the Taliyah video, and the overpowered abilities video and its just that a lot of the information seems weighted stranglely.
For example in the Taliyah video, the removal of the aoe affect on her Q was hardly noted and shortly after that patch she dropped to an all time low play rate because her core playerbase that was running her midlane was forced to either abandon the champion or abandon their lane. But instead the video was focused on her playstyle and how its different from any other jungler and while thats true she also just boils down to a feast or famine spam-ganking jungler like lee sin. I think it would've way more interesting to take a look at how Riot went out their way to change a champions entire identity in the meta-game, and this isolating her players, rather than just numbers and unique playstyle.
With the OP abilities I felt like it was just an excuse to talk about some annoying abilities, which I just don't feel like needed a video. Like everyone knows Yone E is busted and that Pyke ult is really strong, but it just felt like we were saying those abilities are good and have no counterplay which isn't really true. I will say I did really like in the beginning of the video that you talked about some well designed abilities that make up a characters identity without being overpowered. Also, the latter half of this video (op abilities) was very redundant and kept just restating "Hey pyke R is really op btw" and it just didn't add anything to the conversation. I think that talking about abilities that were insanely overtuned on their release and how they were fixed and then using that same logic on the OP abilities you did talk about could've been a really interesting talking point. For example Ekko's ult on release used to deal way more damage and heal way more and when they tuned it down it offered ekko a choice between being a tank with tank ekko or going full ap and assassin, but with more risk.
Finally with this video it just felt way off from your other why everyone plays. I'd say that Akali and Yasuo are similar in infamy but with the Yasuo video there was so much more talk about his lore and how that intertwined with his playstyle and why players are drawn to him, whereas with this video it felt just like "Numbers are good, Mobility good, stealth". I find it kind of crazy that you didnt talk about how since her rework she hasn't held above a 50 winrate, at all. Her entire character is about perfection and that is shown with her players. All Akali mains and even just top level midlaners are DEDICATED to this character and they are will to take on almost any nerfs to try and make her work. Which is something that is rare because characters that are all numbers are typically cast aside if their damage or tankiness can't compete. This video felt to me that it was just that akali had really good everything and the only downside was a time investment and that once you master her you can't lose, but obviously from her winrate we know that to be not true. She struggles against tanks and cc just like almost every other assassin and if she literally misuses 1 ability it will seal her fate. Also without all of that practice and even with it she can get bullied out of lane super easily and have a really difficult time getting back into the game.
Like I said I think these videos have a lot of potential, if it wasn't obvious I play and like akali but I also play/have played Yasuo, Azir, and Lee Sin. And I think you knocked it out of the park with all three, and I just wish that you'd done just as much justice to the 47% WR queen.
Remember that Akali is a champ that is supposed to be about skill expression and perfection, and her overall winrate is the _average_ of people who have played over a thousand games on her and have mastered how she plays... and people who have never played her and contribute nothing to their games.
At 0 games she averages below 47%, at 40 it has risen to ~53.5%, at 80, it averages 56.5%.
Champs like her _need_ to have lower average winrates, as if their numbers are good enough to have 50% winrates for people who have no experience, then people who know what they are doing would be nearly unstoppable.
For example, release rework Akali.
And Akali isn't all numbers, like simple champs such as Garen. She has lots of mobility, burst, and invisibility that offer her tons of ways to approach any situation, whereas Garen is limited to head on approaches or letting the enemy come to him.
Old Akali also had no way to get ahead early and thus lost most lanes. She had zero way to farm without being bullied out in most matchups
bruh that urgot tp gave me fever
Should we make "Why Everyone Plays: Pyke"? It would be interesting to see.
Love your videos man, you did say Zed is single target and not good in teamfights for some reason though? One of Zed's major strengths is that he has pseudo-control mage zone control later into a game, its a bad idea to underestimate a good Zed's potential for aoe dmg. Just a little constructive criticism, keep it up!
A support players worst nightmare when fed. Can't peel if they die in 0.005 seconds.
1:47 urgot gaming
After watching this video again just realized. 5:17 heavy and many people will disagree with no reward on gp “has the highest numbers on screen in legend not rewarding at all if mastered?”
Im an Akali main and i hate playing against her and i figured out why: when an akali outplays you, you cant see it because shes invisible. You have to go into spectate mode to see it and that makes her extremely frustating.
I'm excited to see thisss
RIP old akali. ill never forget those R resets
That Urgot TP tho 1:47
Laughs in Poppy
I remember akali was my first champ outside of bot lane months ago and I literally only played her for 3 months
i played akali mainly for her thematic ngl
i mained her from s3 and i loved her thematics, even if it changed from female ninja who kept all balance to flashy skill expressive female rebel ninja
no joke since realase she was hard to play and she is still hard to play, despire now you dont get punished by not using your passive, i find no other way to explain akali like this video, covers everything that I did not even thought of
i find akali not hard because of ive been maining her since the realase of the rework, and i forgot how hard it was to start having success on her
also, yes, to play akali you cant play wrong, because if she messes up with one Q at early game, or not hit your E in a teamfight, its extra punishing, all of your cd's are important for an all-in, and master to play her withour ANY of her abilities are super hard (Without E or/and W is super tricky), good video as always
Personally as someone that mained all akali - i absolutely hate new akali and dont find her enjoyable to play at all - personally I was a big fan of the hybrid identity and didnt find the kit clunky at all - the main problem she had was ppl below diamond not knowing that pink wards exist and just every champion the same way - if you just sit in the shroud of course you gonna lose. If you run out of the shroud (which has a 20 second cooldown) what is akali gonna do?
You can't see her in twilight shroud
Fiddlesticks : allow me to introduce my W XD
Akali is probably the hardest assassin but that's not saying much. Akali is not even close to one of the hardest to play.
Im one trick akali and I can visualize all the adc mains tilting the shit out of this game when they get solokilled
Video idea: Why everyone plays Sylas
I out here Roleplaying Odysseus. I played akali as "nobody" and havn't touched her since the rework.
Sometimes I wish riot focused their crazy op champions ideias on new games. To this day, I think Aphelios' mechanics could sustain a 30h long single player game
Aphelios is soo fucking complicated for no reason. I spent many weeks trying to figure out what the fuck he does and how to properly play him and still have no clue what he does sometimes.
@@theultimaterage675 how to properly play him sure, but what he does?
5 weapons, 50 ammo each when you get it, when each one runs out of ammo it goes to the back of the line. Every ability except cannon's hits with the secondary weapon.
Sniper is for poke, has longer range, gives a long range shot, and enables a long range auto on ability hits
Knife is for sustain and trading, it has lifestreal and bayblade where you fire at nearby targets for an ability
Cannon is for cc, it slows with shots and roots hit enemies with the ability.
Flamethrower is for aoe, it spreads out to hit in a cone, ability does that but more aggressively
Batarang hits faster the closer you are, creates more to launch at enemies on ability hits, and can create a turret of the second gun.
Ult does damage and buffs the on ability hit effect of whichever gun you used for it.
The 10 different combinations, their use cases, and how to manage them so that you have the right combinations at the right time is incredibly complicated, but the basics of what he does is way overrated in complexity.
And I've only played him twice to my remembrance.
"all it takes is one good Janna Ult or Buster Shot to ruin their entire plan (referring to Diana/Qiyana)"
Me: rolls my eyes remembering that Mordekaiser that would just R me if I tried to set up big Ults as Diana to effectively nullify it
As a morde main, this is what we do
It's honestly very frustrating to play against akali, just because i had times where i was a full item ahead of her as neeko and because i missed one E she completely destroyed me and there was nothing i could do. That feels amazing for the akali player, she has a lot she can do just with her base stats, but its so annoying that you can't make anything wrong against an akali or else you are gone
this is completely besides the point but Vars' choice in music is always amazing. I always love to hear fire emblem tracks, but now Nier also? lets gooo
I mean a literal Pickachu and a tank are considered Ninjas.
