    If you are giving CPR, you absolutely want to put all strength into the compressions. You can live with broken ribs, you cant live without blood pumping. About 30% of CPR survivors have broken ribs as a result, and out of hospital CPR has a nearly 40% survival rate. Learn the basic steps of CPR because you never know when you could save someones life.

    • @zengrath
      @zengrath 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      My understanding it's not the actual rib bones that break but the cartilage and you can literally hear it crunch when done properly, which i don't know if i could do that. I never been trained but heard this from a video describing how it works. But yea your right, i heard its common for this to be broken during CPR and not a big deal or at least it's worth it for the significant increase survival chance.

    • @bara8928

      @@zengrath Yes its the connecting point that breaks, its almost always a given that you break them when doing CPR on elderly persons. Other than that totally agree to the OP , saving lives always has priority over potential broken ribs (at least here where I live, no Idea how its handled in other countries). We got the advice to remove the bra though, IF there are Metal parts/wire where the compression is to be done.

      A ribcage bone fracture, even scrattered bone stucked in lung tissue, are relatively less serious than the heart stop bumping. Around 10% death rate if CPR is delayed for every minutes, so there is no hesitation.

    • @bara8928
      @bara8928 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@taco9061 I learned that a bit differently, though it comes to the same result, in a way.
      The way I learned it:
      Chest compressions are considered more important than artifical ventilations. So if one is unsure how to time it or do it properly (or just is grossed out by it, believe it or not I had a couple of co-students in my nursing class that were grossed out even by the dummy and refused to do artifical ventilation) he/she should just concentrate on compressions.
      If I recall that correctly its mostly about the cause of the cardiac arrest, if its respiratory related, artifical ventilation is important. But it cant hurt when done right.

    • @TheTardisDreamer
      @TheTardisDreamer 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, completely! For anyone wanting to see it in action just look up a Bondi Rescue resus video and you'll see how actually brutal it is.
      Also if there is a defrib around use it asap!
      CPR keeps blood circulating. But the defrib can restart the heart so the sooner it's used, the sooner someone's life can be saved.

    5:00 i doubt the firefighters fix the pipe, i think they are just supposed to pump all the water out of the neighborhood's basements because broken water pipes tend to flood things :P
    13:20 yeah that one's gonna get you in trouble. a stuck elevator is usually a case for elevator techs, unless there's a medical emergency. because they can fix it, the firefighters can only break it open. that's why there were options for "press the emergency button" and "not our job". in the end there is a medical issue yeah but they should've told you that on the phone :P
    24:24 yes actually *do* push as hard as you can. ribs can heal, death doesn't. and most people don't push hard enough anyway, so if in doubt break a few of those ribs.

    • @HadesImmortalArmy

      @@HadesImmortalArmy exactly, so going "oh no not that much pressure, you might break a rib" is the wrong idea, we just don't care about those ribs while we're saving someone's life.

    • @liesdamnlies3372
      @liesdamnlies3372 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, a busy city is hectic, but no, a lot of the calls he said aren’t for emergency services can be. Stuck in an elevator *is* something the fire department will respond to. Sending them before someone has a heart attack from stress, heat stroke, or an anxiety attack saves resources later.
      Similar goes for water mains. If it’s a truly massive flood, fire and police can help with those too.

  • @sid_balloney

    Atleast here in Finland, if a big pipe breaks down and floods everywhere the fire department gets sent out for damage control. Lots of water in your basement or in the streets do cause problems and here FD's are pretty much the only ones with equipment to deal with the flood. The burst pipe itself is handled by the municipality though.

      There are some public places, where You aren't allowed to drink anymore in Vienna and other Austrian cities since 2018 (and on public transport since 'forever'), supposedly because of 'druggies, homeless and common plebs'. How strictly they enforce it, idk.
      But when they banned people covering their faces in public only some months before that, I read about multiple cases, like a guy in a shark costume promoting some product, a student on a bike, who wore her scarf too high and it wasn't cold enough (i.e. below freezing) outside, getting fined a couple hundred Euros (wonder how or if this law or at least people's 'it's not so bad' attitude will change now after the current situation). I haven't read about any more recent cases (granted I willingly avoid national news and am ignorant on national matters to keep my sanity at least somewhat in the positive), so my guess is police became more lax, but it's still law and it'll depend on how zealous the individual officer is.
      I can imagine, other European countries or cities, especially London, have them too, since the UK has had several other cases, where they chose 'security' over freedom.

      the laws about drinking in public in the US was actually initially just to cut down on homeless drunks stumbling around cities and passing out in the streets. there will always be police out there taking it too far, but most of the time if you have a bbq out in the park with a cooler of beers, no one is going to care. again you might have the bad luck to draw the attention of a crazy lady who calls the cops because your bbq is offending her, but that's just individuals being ridiculous. there's a big difference between having a beer and stumbling around drunk pissing on things and shouting obscenities at passerbys which is why the laws against public drinking became a thing.

    • @we-make-it
      @we-make-it 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AurioDK Actually it would be a great game I think if they would get the local laws right. So you would be a dispatcher in different cities around the world and you would get calls and would have to decide if and who you dispatch. Examples would be: Call for someone drinking in public in London - Tell caller do stop harassing law-abiding citizens and dispatch no one. Call for some mentally ill person sitting on the street in some US city - Dispatch half a dozen cops and shoot the person dead, Call for some person in Germany asking for prostitutes - Tell caller do stop harassing law-abiding citizens and dispatch no one. Call for some black person being black in public in some US city - Dispatch half a dozen cops and shoot the person dead. And so on, and so on.

    • @Null8fuenf10

      There isn't an outright ban on public drinking anywhere in Austria (except on public transport since 'forever') but a place, usually a highly frequented, 'problematic' place around (a) main station in almost every major city since ~2018.
      In Vienna are more to come and there was a 'large-scale' survey with 2.600 participants about the place '150.000 people visit' ('per' not given in the gov article, but after some research, it's apparently per day), where over ⅔ said they feel more safe because of that and of those over 70% of the women said they feel more safe.
      'I don't know's were excluded 'to hear the voices of those, who had something positive or negative to say, more clearly', how many of the 2.600 they were, how many gave a clear 'positive/negative' answer respectively, age, sex, family status, profession, timespan, date, location etc. unknown. (Source: gov website of Vienna)
      So in my eyes just a usual 'see, we did good' survey and absolutely negligible.
      Personally I never had any issues, back when it was just public transport and was drinking almost every day, but that's almost 10 years ago, I rarely go out and drink anymore and a lot has changed since then (general public anti mask law since 2017 (ironic today, isn't it?), general public indoor smoking ban since winter 2019, [supposed] general paradigm shift). But I guess, while it's more likely to get punished, it'll depend on how zealous the officer/security is.
      But generally, I'm really worried about such blanket bans (especially such 'treating' symptoms not causes), how quickly they were written and passed, how little pushback there was and what the future will bring.
