  • Here's a short discussion on bowing in Irish traditional music. This video is probably the most appropriate for people familiar with the violin, but new to the Irish musical tradition. If you have specific questions, or tunes you'd like bowing ideas on, let me know in the comments below. I will be doing another video specifically addressing trebles and the myriad of things you can do with them next week.

I taught myself some Donegal Bowing with a basic bowing on the 1th and 2nd string. I like how it sounds with slurring.

Wow! I have one of the O'Neills books but reading this big print on my computer screen is definitely easier on the eyes... Thanks for the link!

Great idea putting the notes when you need to see the bowing -.-

This is very good, but several times when you're demonstrating some technique the camera shows the sheet music, when watching you do it would be much more helpful. Thanks for posting this.

is it "treble" or "triple" (triplet?)

Odd... I have O'Neills Music of Ireland but the music looks different, and none of the tunes have numbers...

  • @chaldnipatterns

OK answered it myself... I see it is "treble" - and now I understand why it never made sense to me when I heard it said as "triple(t)", since it's not and even group of three...

You can screen shot the music from the video at 1:10, or go to the freesheetmusic url I've provided in the video description above. At that site you can search all the tunes (all 1,850 of them!)
