  • I made a video several years ago showing how I fixed the cush drive on my Suzuki Vstrom for cheap. I received quite a bit of criticism both in the comments and private messages regarding that repair. You can see the original video here : • How to fix a cush driv...
While doing a tire change recently, I figured I'd shoot a follow up video showing how the fix has held up.

Good fix. A proper fix is one that works.

Thank you for your follow-up on this matter. Your fix was the perfect remedy until my new rubbers showed up five weeks later. I still was able to ride during the wait period, so thanks! (I tend to get bitchy when my bike is down so my family thanks you too!)

It can help the VStrom hub to pull a layer of tube behind the rubbers too. It tightens the sprocket hub, reduces wobble, and can improve low gear shifting.

Tim Wey agreed. I just mounted a new rear tire 10 minutes ago. My cush drive is still nice and tight.

In terms of reducing vibration, which is the main purpose of these dampeners, they lose that ability over time due to shrinkage and the rubber getting harder. I can see this fixing the shrinkage issue but what about the softness of a new unit? I would think that shrinkage would be a much bigger issue imo.

find you an old (or new) bicycle tube and get that cush drive tightened up.
