- 2024 BMW 7 Series Level 3 highly automated driving, which allows drivers to take their hands off the steering wheel and temporarily divert their attention away from the road, will be available in the new BMW 7 Series. BMW Personal Pilot L3 is the name of the new function that relieves the person at the wheel of the task of driving in certain situations and controls the car’s speed, distance to the vehicle ahead and lane positioning for them. This new option can be ordered for the new BMW 7 Series (excluding the i7 eDrive50 and i7 M70 xDrive) from December to be fitted in vehicles from next March.
Designed to assume the entire task of driving with Level 3 capability as defined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the highly automated driving function will be offered exclusively in Germany priced at 6,000 euros (incl. VAT).
This innovative technology allows drivers to redirect their focus to other in-vehicle activities when travelling at up to 60 km/h (37 mph) on motorways with structurally separated carriageways. Thanks to its particularly sophisticated sensors, this is the first system of its kind that can also be used in the dark.

Not even during the demostration they use the turn indicator, the level of realism it's insane!!
lol is a BMW, what would you expect
Fun fact, you need to jailbreak your BMW to use turn signals normally. By default, you can only use them when parked like an idiot in the middle of the road or intersection.
Indicatorfluid was empty!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
1:11 braking in the middle of the motorway will make a catastrophic domino accident.
I don't think that was the point here.
@@stevem2323 It should be though. We’re deep enough into automated driving and especially into automatic braking that most system will do that successfully, so that demonstration is not necessary.
But this is NOT the appropriate scenario to stop dead. You’re honestly better off hitting the obstruction than stopping dead on the highway.
@@80PercentAshamedOfU With the last part i agree.
Let it be in the 1st lane rather than jump to the second where people are driving 250kmh+
braking. but yea i agree
So basically this is a system that causes you to get rear ended and creates a gigantic traffic jam.
Rear ended hard as hell too, on the highway any type of vehicle or person could be behind you and yeah that's gonna hurt and be scary
Let's be real - when an obstacle on the road, it's only a matter of seconds before someone makes a ridiculous maneuver and causes a wreck. In this case take control as it breaks and then go on the shoulder around it.
@@dohyunkwon2938yeah if you want to get autopiloted into guardrails, cars, and ambulances sure
all these systems are great on paper but are B.S. in reality! They do not see everything and the hole stuation only part of it... lets get rid of these systems and teach humans how to drive again....
It's dangerous, a collision system that causes crashes, rear end ones
Essentially, BMWs system was created to save BMW drivers from other BMW drivers. Fantastic.
With those super large grills, i would be expecting nothing less of a robotic arm coming out and pushing the pallet out of the way ✌🏻
I expected it to jump across the obstacle.
It looks hilarious to be honest. It's just comically large. 😂
Quit overreacting, it’s not that large
Or mount the pallet in front of the grill!
There was a time when the bigger the grills, the better the car was. Now it doesn`t make sense, as the grills are there just for esthetic reason. Not even air intake it is anymore.
I expected that the vehicle could avoid the obstacle not just a emergency brake
Yeah... Like it flys half a feet above the obstacle and gently slides down to earth on the move😎
Yup. The tech is coming along, but it’s not there yet. No way was that a safer option than going around via a clear adjacent lane.
It is avoiding a blind spot insident
Maybe it could have realized to stop at the side of the road not on the lane and maybe it should put the hazards on when it starts breaking, not after full stop. This would be a disaster on autobahn. Maybe lets not develop these independent driving mechanics and keep the drivers included in surveying the road ahead. There will be accidents sooner or later as people get used to car doing everything for them and then one day the car doesnt or you forget you are driving a different car.
I thought it was gonna jump over it
This is madness. What about when you have a truck behind you? Far better off just going over the obstacle or maybe even go around it!
what if there is a truck beside you, better just stop wait for the driver to decide. Hopefully the driver wont regret on his decision.
So you take control of the steering wheel and mash the accelerator pedal into the firewall?
It is that truckers job to keep a safe distance.
@@TTBOn00bKiLleR What if the truck driver is not good at his job?
Oh thank you bmw you saved me from stepping over 3 kg of wood, but now a 2 ton vehicle is going to crash into me.
A very realistic representation of how bmw drivers act on the road
😆😆
Beemers think "pedal to the metal" refers to brakes.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
That hard brake in the middle of the road is kinda dangerous no? Especially on highway. Seems like a good way to cause a pileup.
Only for Americans.
1000%
A pallet in the middle of the road is kind of dangerous, no?
This demonstrate why you should drive your self
Thank you !! ❤❤
I don’t think it’s a good idea to give all the control to the car and watching movie while you’re driving. In this case, if you are addicted to a display just hire a driver.
only cars with ADS will drive away from that obstacle , Autopilot is not a chauffeur the software did it work well , the rest is up to the driver to keep concentration on the road, (autopilot is not a chauffeur.) I don't think any car will ram your behind keeping a reasonable distance or with autopilot enabled, realistically speaking.

It's also illegal
It stops very fast and BOOM💥 you have a SUV smashing into the back of you!!
I am going to stick to driving myself thank you very much.
Well you better chance your driving style if you think that stopping is more dangerous than hitting an object.
Never expected that system could let you watch video during driving
If it was a tesla the nhtsa would have said that its not safe and will cause accidents
Most likely it will not be available in europe
it is not allowed in europe, unless you hack the entertainment system
@@HarelGaming1 BMW is level 3 automated driving and has 3D lidar. Tesla doesn't have either.
Never stop like this on route ( autobahn) !!!
Legends has it, the driver is yet to arrived to his destination.
Nice 7 series technology! So I can expect my 1 series have the same standard equipment in 15 years 😌
The best techno cars that i will find desirable in the future, will be those with disabling modes for those annoying systems.
Bravi!!!!!
Senza parole!!!
Great demonstration! Amazing!!!
1:00 what if someone rear ends you?😅
It jumps
Why? Would you let the car come to a complete stop, take control of steering wheel and return to motorway speed.
It's just that when writing the code for the autopilot it looks something like this:
switch(expression) {
case x:
// code block
brake; // see it BRAKE instead BREAK!)
case y:
// code block
brake;
default:
// code block
}
The back end looks like an old Acura. I love it.
Tipical BMW maneuver
Lmfao I was hoping the air suspension would jump it lol I’m going crazy
why did I think it was gonna hop over it like the Bose suspension did
Love letting driver watch videos on the main screen. That's the biggest innovation, IMO
If the goal is to replicate bmw driver safety this is gold.
Reaction time from that screen playing TH-cam was not great at all...like a Celeron Dual Core from 20 years ago
What are you talking about? Its smooth, look at new e class, way to laggy, search and see
The same problem in Maybach.
It's very responsive.
For everyone complaining about the hard breaking instead of going around the obstacle have to realize this is still new technology. We all have to crawl before we walk folks. 20 years from now every car will be in sync with each other and there will be almost no accidents or even traffic.
If the powers that be have their way, in 20 years only the elite will be transported in vehicles... what's left of the masses won't be permitted to leave their cities.
If it’s new technology then watching TH-cam instead of paying attention is stupidity suicidal.
Watching a movie while driving, I guess this is as good an argument for safety features as any other distractions
I've experienced exactly this situation on highway. And the left lane was in use at the moment and I went over that wooden thing by applying a little brake. It would be terrible to suddenly stop on a highway.
I expected it to jump over the obstacle like KITT
0.39 laughing at a corner by seeing your face due to lack of confidence that the automatic breaks work or not 💀😅😂🤣🤪
I like how they showed the 7er stop infront of the pallet while there were a bunch of cars behind, rip in pepperoni 7 series convoy
My audi has some automation to it, and I hate it. Specifically the collision avoidance breaking. Times it has triggered when it should: 0. Times it triggered randomly, freaking me out and nearly causing accidents: 3. I've had the car 1.5 months.
You can lower the sensitivity in settings.
This system looks similar as
JDM HONDA LEGEND Sensing Elite.
But Honda can change lane when suddenly another car coming in front.
dude you CANT do taht in germany! You have cars going 200miles+ the system cant look that far behind..
@@dasu2324So being Rear Ended by a Truck is better ?! 😂😂🤦
@@romb1818 well, by law the trucks also have an emergency break system..
@@dasu2324 They could have... Important is the Distance.
If the truck is too close, Emergency Braking System CAN'T Defeat Laws of Physics. 😂🤦
Similar with tesla can auto change lane on navigated
BMW‘s technology is insane!
i love BMW all the time
You get a scratch in the front bumper and it’ll cost you $30K to fix with all that technology
this is especially brilliant when the truck is behind you...
Bravo Hakim 👏👏

BMW for life
I thought it jumped over that empty pallet and got to know that you will be rear ended by the traffic nice feature.
Good luck with this in traffic. No way the car behind stops in time
In Germany there is something called a safety distance. In addition, I would also brake like this if there was an obstacle like that.
@@kham4481 I've seen this safety distance in Germany. 2m when moving 220 km/h. Maybe 3m.
There is no way watching TH-cam on Autopilot is legal anywhere haha!
yes under certain circumstances it is allowed in Germany by law.

@@DerSnipOr no as the driver of course, just google it please. BMW is allowed to do so since June 2023. And Mercedes Benz was the first one in Germany with LEVEL 4. Its still very limited and only on the Autobahn within certain speeds but its allowed and called LEVEL 4 driving

Amazing technology and super car
Could BMW please make a car that like people can actually afford? They'd make so much sales.
Imagine if there was a big rig behind the vehicle coming to a full stop on the highway , you could see a big chance of a nasty accident .
trucker is supposed to keep safe distance ;)
@@erax440cool words to write on a tombstone. Use your rear view mirror and increase your following distance if someone is following you too closely
@@erax440 Yeah , but in real life humans don’t always do what they are supposed to do , do they.
If humans always did the right thing , we would never see accidents happen, we wouldn’t have stupid wars , what can we say ….. only human 😳.

Desperately ❤❤❤❤❤
It's impressive technology, but if an object in the road causes a car to come to a standstill on the motorway like that, within seconds it will be rear-ended by either a car or a truck or a bus. Is it worth it?
This system works on any road it's not just highway. On 2 lane road it's the safest to brake.
Stoping on highway is risky but the following distance is way bigger and there are other lanes in the same direction to go around.
If you dont want to drive. Just dont drive..
Really impressiv Cars. Technical and opticaly.
I'm excited to see how BMW Systems will rage for break checking each other in the near future. 😊

Most disgusting bmw s7. Designer should be fired.
With these large grills I would expect nothing but simply blowing the obstacles away
Automated turn indicators will be nice.
A normal line cut caused a full stop. That’s why traffic jam occurs.
What about the semi truck behind the car stopping abruptly in the traffic lane?
Slightly better than my 2017 CR-V.
Great, but what if the machine breaks down? It is not good when we turn off people's thinking and reactions.

Try it in winter too. The road markings are not visible and the unexpected obstacles.
Surely stopping and not going round the object could be fatal decision if there was a fast moving or heavy goods vehicle behind the vehicle? I would like to know more on the parameters prior to using such a system.
As the tesla dodges the tires that are flying at it from above - the bmw emergency brakes in front of the pallet.
Good job
I love how it will get you rearended just cos there was a plank of wood on the road.
0:48 Classic BMW driver behavior: drive up to the hood, zero turn signals, and the other sits like a calf because why should he look at what is happening on the road... LOL

Finally BMW invented system to avoid crazy manevers from BMW drivers
glad everyone can see how dangerous those manoeuvres are holy cow. that's before we talk about how they low key showed how distracting this silly big screens are in cars today
I like it 👍👍👍
Topical driving style of that part of the word 😄😂
Some one would rear end if this happened on the freeway! Thanks !
I can only imagine all the pileups behind the new BMWs with all that excessive braking. If you've ever been in an emergency, you know you can't just slam the brakes, you need to make sure the guy behind you has enough warning and time to brake as well.
Where is the setting where you tailgate the car infront while you flash your lights??
Using autopilot to watch a motorcycle crash on TH-cam is just pure comedy gold.
Tbh if you must watch a movie while driving and you lose the rear end of your car or die, it’s a perfect example of a darwin award
