I’m having to replace the drive plates on my 451. I have the owner’s manual but it’s not very helpful. How do I get to the drive plates? I’m having a heck of a time removing the cutter assembly to get to them. Please help!
Yes..all the juices from what you are cutting build up on the sickle bar and when it sits idle for a bit they form into a thick gum like substance. Put water on it and let it soak for a bit and then grab the pulley with your hands and start moving it back and forth while keeping the bar wet. Eventually you will be able to engage the PTO and run the mower. Spray liberally with water while running. I don't have to mention...be careful!

Just put water on it. Water will soften the gum that is jamming it.

An interesting note. Water works where penetrating lubricants don't.
