I wouldn't get too hung up on W2. They don't manufacture it any more so you have to find old stock. W1, 1075, 1095, and 1050 are all perfectly good steels for making Japanese-style blades.
It's pretty much like copper. Conventionally it's patinated a sort of purplish black. If you were just handling it casually you'd have a hard time telling it from pure copper.
Hi walter, i've wanted to become a blacksmith all my life, and for the past year and a half, i've been seriously learning and trying to be the best that I can be. I've been able to make some simple medium-carbon blades and things like that, but I am always hearing about the legendary W2 steel and it's amazing quality for swords. But no matter how much I look online, i can never find any for sale. Even custom steelworks that advertise W2 for commission don't sell it. I was wondering if you could

It sure does!
Okay, thanks. I thought it may perhaps have some qualities similar to stainless steel, due to the gold content.
Is the gold and copper alloy very corrosion resistant?
Show me where to get some, or what steel are good substitutes.
love your video's. Thanks for the share.

Hi Walter. Another quick question. Does the fittings DVD have the standard measurements of all the fittings in it?
25 seconds in and the payoff. That said, your videos are good.
