*I like the old style Echo Dot because it's small also **Newest.Technology**, gives out decent sound and doesn't take up a lot of shelf space if you want to put it on beam in the workshop or shed.*
We have long resisted getting an Echo. Never really saw a need. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB When we recently completed some remodeling in our home, we realized we had failed to add a switch to turn on a certain lamp across the room. We couldn't run new wiring (which would have been expensive if we could), so we got our first Echo which completely solved our problem for about $40 (Echo Dot and smart plug). We just ask Alexa to turn on/off that light. Heartily recommend it to solve this kind of conundrum!

I have many questions with this set up. What if the power goes? Do you have to reset all your appliances? Will the main switch always be on? Well that not consume electricity? Also can you ask Alexa to set a time frame on which it should on and off the water heater? Also can I ask Alexa to start the air conditioner on 16 temperature? How about the ability to control the fans is that possible?

As per my understanding, all the appliances should be smart then you can controll, like it should connect through smart plug or built in smart feature to connect WiFi, otherwise not possible to control, am I right?
You can talk about the automation feature. Like turn off geyser after 15 mins after is it turned on. We can "program" these things via alexa app.
