It's not even that they didn't bother to paint, he had all his paint applications removed so that they could the other figures paint applications into the budget and he still became so popular
...and despite the fact that Sunbow Production, who did the G.I.Joe cartoon, did not know what to do with him. Seeing him as a mute, nameless, faceless Commando with no personality, he was sidelined hard in the cartoon. He popularity was purely driven by the Marvel comics -- more so, after issue #21 "Silent Interlude". Much like Boba Fett, the fans were drawn in by his cool and quiet disposition, the mystery he holds under that mask, and the pure badass look.
I guess I was wrong about Snake Eyes. Watching Gaijin Goomba's rant on the movie over stereotype 80s Asia with a heavy use of honor, I assumed Snake Eyes does not make a good ninja, given how he wears black and how Gaijin keeps hearing honor over and over. In this Which Ninja, I stand corrected.
GI Joe, at least the comic (Snakesyes wearing a mask due to disfigured by helicopter crash), has a thesis, “who is a better ninja, a man who is trained at young age or a trained soldier who trained at later age?” Snakesyes being a former soldier who was adopted by Ninja clan while Stormshadow is born to it.
In the current comic the OG Snake-Eyes sacrificed himself to take down the revived Serpentor, and a couple of weeks later Snake-Eyes' pupil Sean Boswell aka Kamakura received some helicopter injuries while protecting Scarlett during a mission Sean survived and Doc when he discovers the full extent of Sean's injuries states to the others this "I don't know how to explain this but this is either a massive coincidence or the work of fate itself but somehow Sean received the same facial injuries, and unrepairable injuries to the vocal cords that Snake received." And Hawk being the smart leader he is allows Sean to take up his mentor's codename along with upgraded version of his mentor's gear and become the new Snake-Eyes however in order to keep Sean's family safe, and keep up the illusion that Snake-Eyes is this seemingly indestructible phantom ninja of justice Hawk and the others were forced to fake Sean's death.
I honestly wouldn’t mind a 30-minute video dedicated to Snake Eyes. He’s my favorite Joe. Hell, I probably would watch a full hour dedicated to Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Jinx, Kamakura and the rest of the Arashikage clan.
In the current comics Kamakura is now the new and current Snake-Eyes, basically after the OG Snake-Eyes sacrificed himself in order to a revived Serpentor Kamakura would later on receive helicopter injuries during a mission when he protected Scarlett and Doc states when he discovers that somehow Kamakura receiving the same injuries as him, and Jinx's mentor along with the injuries being 100% accurate to where they happened was either a massive coincidence or the work of fate itself.
Kamakura isn't one I know off the top of my head. Side note, there's apparently a modernized samurai in the joes, and he was, at least for a while, in a relationship with Jinx, "despite the oil and water..... of ninjas and samurai."
I feel like Parachuting is somewhat Ninja; assuming Snake-Eyes does HALO style jumps, it would make sense in terms of infiltration. If an enemy position is fortified in all ways except towards the sky, a Ninja probably would utilize a parachute jump to get in quietly.
10:50 A small correction: Beta waves are associated with being in a state of mental engagement, lower in amplitude and higher in frequency (15-40 hz). Most people in conversation or focusing on work are in the Beta state. Alpha waves are more associated with relaxation due to their lower frequency (9-14 hz). When you take a break or are relaxing you're in the alpha state. It's less about positive or negative feelings and more about how much mental energy you are expending

I would love to hear your thoughts on Snake-eyes from G.I. Joe Renegades because there he's a gaijin who is accepted into the Arashikage ninja clan with Storm Shadow, appalled at the idea of accepting a gaijin, grew to resent him when he rose up in the ranks and became the clan's best ninja.
That's the real origin of Snake Eyes, the recent film's version is race swapped for "cultural sensitivity" because if they kept it legit, there'd be cries of "cultural appropriation" levied against the studio.
@@HenshinFanatic Yes I am aware that Snake-eyes was always white in the source material, I was just pointing out that Renegades is, as far as I know, the only time we get an indepth look into his backstory.

Awesome video, Gaijin Goombah! I've been a fan of G.I. Joe virtually my entire life, and like any child of the 80s who watched G.I.Joe, I thought Snake Eyes was one of the most badass characters of the whole series. The traits that could have made him a flop as a toy - the all-black costume design so he could be molded in all black and minimally painted to shave down costs - were translated into an enduring chain of development and character background that makes him the breakout hit of the franchise. His complete silence and anonymity turned into mystery and compulsion for the fans, and the mythos grew in every iteration of the franchise. Today, I salute you for seeing how this trend in Snake Eyes' developement as a character in the decades has been informed by and kept in line with the most true to history facts about true ninja. Thank you Gaijin, keep making awesome content of all sorts, and... for the hell of it... let me add... Yo Joe! :)
Great video, Gaijin. I'm glad you made a video about Snake Eyes! 👍 Here's some other characters you could cover: Gray Fox (Metal Gear) Daredevil (Marvel) Vega (Street Fighter) Storm Shadow (GI Joe) Ra's Al Ghul and the League of Assassins/Shadows (DC)
Oh god, wouldn’t Rah’s Al Ghul be a great example of a BAD famous ninja? He’s the leader of the League of Assassins, and gets routinely ass kicked by numerous super heroes after briefly catching them off guard.
It's kinda funny how Storm Shadow is using blades and shuriken in modern days, you know when your opponents with most likely wear bulletproof armor with possible plated steel within that'd break both weapon types if hit hard enough.
I was never a fan of GI Joe growing up but was always aware of Snakeeyes, I always thought he was a stereotype with no research put into him. but turns out he's legit?! I love Being corrected with Knowledge! Thanks, Giajin for always being the best sensai a guy in his late 20's could ask for!!!
Not a patron (and I understand the importance of funding) but I would love to see a deep dive into snake eyes and his different iterations. And if there is someone reading this comment and looking for a good jumping on point for GI joe I would highly recommend GI Joe renegades. There was also a snake eyes solo comic run that is vary good for what I have read off it, as the prints are hard to find and I haven't found a good place online to get digital comics.
I was watching an old episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation the other day when a character said "As Grissom always says, no one ever looks up." and I immediately said "Tanuki gakure!".
Kayakujutsu: the ninja art of using all forms of gunpowder effectively, including firearms Ninja really did use everything that got the job done Storm Shadow just really preferred focusing on his sword
I mean i think we all enjoy Bokksu, especially your adverts for it! It just works so well, and is a quite enjoyable addition to whatever video you're doing! And let me not forget to say, I'm loving the main video as well!
Considering todays episode about Snake Eyes, kinda wonder if GG will do 'Which Ninja' but on Special Forces in Military. I have very little information about them. But from what I heard, their usual jobs is exactly like the Shinobis; information relay, reconnaissance.
Classically Stormshadow also used a bow and arrow and was capable of zeroing in on targets just using his sense of hearing. He did use firearms in the Marvel comics but very irregularly. Snake eyes tended to be more pragmatic in his weapon choices granted.
Speaking of things that a Sengoku Shinobi would find an absolute dream, just how overpowered would a ninja be with access to a 3D Printer? XDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXD
I’m kinda hoping a vid for Genshin is coming to this channel soon, especially since Inazuma recently dropped. While some of the culture present does look rather stereotypical to me, I’m sure you can find plenty to dig through!
@@DisgaeMi true true, but it would be fun for another inaccurate ninja to add to the list, plus, if the guy can find something redeemable about Genji, then there's got to be something with Sayu he can uncover.
Sayu does get some things right(note the some) she camps in high places where it is hard to find her, she can move pretty fast thanks to the Fuufuu Windwheel and her Fuufuu Whirlwind Kick does deal quite a bit of damage and could knock someone out. Her idle she takes on the look of the Muji-Muji Daruma making it hard to know which is Sayu and which is just a daruma. She uses the elements to her advantage thanks to her Anemo Vision. And her small size does make her had to find if she is behind a boulder to a tower. I think her outfit would help her hide in a forest during the daytime.
I really wish I could have helped with this one, I have a big ol' book on the Joes, and almost none of the characters get as much info as Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow. The highlight is that in the book's chosen continuity, Snake Eyes knew Cobra Commander back when CC was an honest, law abiding citizen. CC then sent Zartan to infiltrate the Arashikage, where Zartan felt happy, finding a calming purposed in smithing. Sadly when CC sent the order to kill a target, he still did it. Said target was SUPPOSED to be Snake Eyes, but because of a special training session, he shot the Hard Master instead. Storm Shadow wanted vengeance for his teacher, so he left, eventually joining Cobra in search of answers, but with CC and Zartan having mutual dirt (Zartan fired the shot, CC hired him) neither said anything, and Storm Shadow got lost in the organization.
This video really emphasizes an observation I made several years ago: people have equated modern day special ops military units to ninja from Japan back in the day, and a lot of those people don't realize just how right they are. Like the ninja, there's a pop culture perspective on Navy SEALs, Army Special Forces and Rangers, MARSOC, Delta Force/CAG, and DEVGRU/SEAL Team 6 that paints a specific picture of these people rocking state-of-the-art equipment, weapons, etc., and that is true, however it's not just high-tech/cutting edge, it's also very specialized. Similar to the ninja's sword, SOF units have modified rifles adapted from the same platform that the M16 and M4 are made from, giving them weapon platforms like the Mk18 CQB (Close-Quarters Battle) rifle and the Mk12 SPR (Special Purpose Rifle). Even moreso, the "unsung heroes" of spec ops, intelligence gathering units, have to do what they do without being caught. While that does involve a lot of modern technology and not quite as much field work, it still makes for some very dangerous work and if they get into any fights in the field, they've failed completely.

My favorite version of him comes from G.I Joe Sigma Six
Great video, Gaijin. I'm glad you made a video about Snake Eyes! 👍 Here's some other characters you could cover:
Gray Fox (Metal Gear)
Daredevil (Marvel)
Vega (Street Fighter)
Storm Shadow (GI Joe)
Ra's Al Ghul and the League of Assassins/Shadows (DC)
Oh god, wouldn’t Rah’s Al Ghul be a great example of a BAD famous ninja? He’s the leader of the League of Assassins, and gets routinely ass kicked by numerous super heroes after briefly catching them off guard.
@@empoleonmaster6709 Maybe, but still, it would fun to hear him give his thoughts on the character.
PATRONS!!! Make him do a part 2!!! I've been waiting for a "Which Ninja" on Snake Eyes!!! And to hear that there could be more?! *chef kiss*
I am so happy you are doing snake eyes
Keep it up on your work and this channel

It was standard practice in old comics to use blue as a highlight to black, as seen with Spider-Man's Venom.
I was watching an old episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation the other day when a character said "As Grissom always says, no one ever looks up." and I immediately said "Tanuki gakure!".
Considering all your funding comes from Patreon and sponsors, I'd actually _like_ to see a thirty minute video.
Time For A Ninja Bounty Hunt
Thank you for reaffirming my belief that Snake Eye is the best representation of a modern ninja.
Hollywood just butchered the latest snake eyes movie with typical stereotype, how double standard Hollywood is...
Snake Eyes putting the Ninja back in Shinobi...
Kayakujutsu: the ninja art of using all forms of gunpowder effectively, including firearms
Ninja really did use everything that got the job done
Storm Shadow just really preferred focusing on his sword
The face of "pure enjoyment" immediately followed by the cat slaps of "stop recording me" show that these snacks are GOOD!!!
Aaaaaaand they're delicious, thanks GG
What if you only had insight to the characters’ names due to witnessing the world through their eyes?
I mean i think we all enjoy Bokksu, especially your adverts for it! It just works so well, and is a quite enjoyable addition to whatever video you're doing!
And let me not forget to say, I'm loving the main video as well!
gotta love how this guy actually makes the cut I hope to see him again in the future
I'd honestly like to think that whenever Snake eyes runs out of all other weapons he just pulls out a Walther ppk like he's James Bond.
G.I.Joe will always be about pork chop sandwiches.
You're not cooking?
I sometimes forget how adorable you and your wife are and it's always fun seeing you two together.
Snake eyes is hype, dude! I hope to see that follow-up!
Would love to see Gajin do Espio from sonic series! XD
Speaking of things that a Sengoku Shinobi would find an absolute dream, just how overpowered would a ninja be with access to a 3D Printer?
XDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXD
What I learned about ninjas and snake eyes, they were the bear grylls and james bond of japan .
I have been waiting for you to cover Snake Eyes FOREVER
Originally Snake Eyes was classified as a Commando. It was later that they decided to reclassify him as a ninja.
I’m kinda hoping a vid for Genshin is coming to this channel soon, especially since Inazuma recently dropped.
While some of the culture present does look rather stereotypical to me, I’m sure you can find plenty to dig through!
Sayu would confuse if not make him angry with her design for this series
@@DisgaeMi true true, but it would be fun for another inaccurate ninja to add to the list,
plus, if the guy can find something redeemable about Genji, then there's got to be something with Sayu he can uncover.
@@lwyhuyfee i do hope there is a Sayu episode, even if not a super positive vid, ill still enjoy
Snake Eyes & Storm Shadow are the only Two Things people are even invested into G.I.Joe
way i see it, he is likely the only modern ninja with legit ninja skills, more accurate than batman
Doubt as Batman is pretty much a ninja.
I really wish I could have helped with this one, I have a big ol' book on the Joes, and almost none of the characters get as much info as Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow.
The highlight is that in the book's chosen continuity,
Snake Eyes knew Cobra Commander back when CC was an honest, law abiding citizen.
Great video, one of my favorites
