    Hi John
    My main listening room is 9’X15’x8.5’
    I do shift all my gear out to my hall at times for days. It’s 18’X23’X8.5’.
    I have the following speakers
    Totem Hawk
    KEF LS50
    Dynaudio Evoke 10.
    Elac UniFi UB52.
    I am itching to get a REL T series to compliment mainly the standmount speakers. ( believe the Hawk will benefit from it too 😄 ).
    I am using Perreaux R200i and Moon 340i amplifier.
    Hope to get your opinions.

    Oddly, no ATC in their list for speaker matching on the REL site yet both are UK based companies. I was considering 2 small subs vs one larger sub in the future. Currently running a Velodyne HGS 12 with ATC SCM 19 speakers. No complaints on the sound, but the Velodyne is an 20 year old sub, so life span probably toward it's end. Advice/thoughts on that ?

    Hello John & Team,
    I have an bar with a main room with the following dimensions floor is 36 feet by 26 feet with a 17 feet high ceiling .
    I have a pair Tannoy SE Prestige Sterling.
    Contemplating one of
    Carbon special
    or G MARK 2 .
    Or 212 SE .
    Also there is space for possibly a pair
    Or a pair of 812 or 512.
    This is a bar with limited space ..
    I have only 2 corners at the entrance of the bar ( all this entrance is glass ) with the Tannoy’s flying up on the side wall as there is no space for them on the floor hence no mid range or bass felt on ground level.
    The truth is I love the Carbon ( especially how John gets so excited when talking about ) and really appreciate the cabinet of the amazing G Mark 2. However there is only space for 1 G MARK 2. Or possibly a pair of Carbon ( which I love as well ) but I love the G look and especially the remote control ( which if the Carbon had would be amazing ).
    Please advise as I am ready to pull the trigger.

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for reaching out. In a home theater system is is possible to use different sizes of subwoofers, and typically with the larger unit placed in the front of your room and the smaller unit placed in the rear of your room. For a 2-channel music system, if using two subwoofers in a stereo pair configuration we strongly recommend that both units be the same matching model, which will ensure that the system's sub-bass output is balanced and even from left to right.

    I still can't come to terms with ppl looking for the smallest footprint possible. It's a sub it's generally outta the way there the size of a small table. I feel like the the larger the box the more musical it is. Do someone to choose a smaller box over better sound quality is crazy to me especially when your talking about a sub 12" box or a 16-17" box the difference isn't that noticable in appearence but the sound is definably noticable. A subwoofer needs volume it's simply the physics of sound waves. And in my mind the physics of the sound waves I want to reproduce determines the size of the cabinet I chose. At this level of audio you have to be willing to give up a few extra inches of your listening area to achieve the best possible sound. Were spending thousands of dollars for the best sound possible. I'm not talking about putting 4 foot concert level dual 21" subwoofers next to your tv in your living room. But a 16" square box in your living room shouldn't be an issue. To a degree when it comes to sound bigger is better. It's not going to take over your living room

    • @NakeanWickliff
      @NakeanWickliff 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The notion that bigger is slower too...smh. Speed is a function of frequency. Acoustic suspension speakers are plenty snappy for me. Also, the thinking that you can put too much speaker in your room is also hilarious. Just turn it down if it's too loud. If you turn it up and end up with room issues, those issues are still there with a smaller speaker unless it doesn't dig as deap and at that point, you should fix the problem with placement and treatment not limit your sound. I have a large open plan space downstairs for our music and tv so I need to move a lot of air. Two 18" Ultimax in the right place gives me flat extension to 15hz.

      However, if your system is primarily used for multi-channel home theater and you are using the subwoofers in a REL-3D configuration (rel.net/blog/2017-06-15/setup-deep-dive/dive-real-deep-rel-3d/) then it is possible to use different sizes of subwoofers assigned to the different surround channels.

When you have a chance, please write in to contactus@rel.net and we will be happy to provide a subwoofer pairing recommendation specific to your system.

    I currently have a T/7x on home trial, but could use some more deep bass and bass pressure. My worry is whether the T/9x is as fast as the T/7x, which I heard was around 8 mS (correct?), since my main speakers are quite fast responding.
    Could someone from REL maybe clarify this? Thanks.

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for reaching out, and for supporting REL Acoustics. The T/9x is just as quick and responsive in it's output as the T/7x, and if you are looking for deeper low-frequency extension in your system compared to the T/7x when moving up in size to the T/9x would be a valid option. If you were looking for faster and more responsive output from the subwoofer in addition to deeper extension, then we would recommend moving up in size to one of our Serie S models like the S/510.

    I am building a system using a 3" speaker linearray for home theater it will go down to roughly 100hz i was thinking of crossing it over to two 10" woofers around 150-200hz and then have those trade off to a 18" subwoofer around 60-80 hz to handle the real low end , is this a good idea or no? everything will be run off a dsp

    • @zorhis1996
      @zorhis1996 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @denny b so it's for my computer and I'm missing the punch and impact when playing games and movies , it's a small room , the line array is 8 per side I wanted to get as much cone area for impact with out going wide cause I don't have room and I was going to do two flat 10s under my desk and do the one 18 off to the side , I don't think I would be able to fit two 18 , I never had an 18 before and it's a local company that makes subwoofers I want to support and they start at 18" and make up to 32", also I wanted to go the theater idea of having two duties for subwoofers and keeping everything playing In the optimum playing range so nothing is ever stressed or near its limits

      @denny b thank you , right now I have a older kef 12" subwoofer , but not getting the lows I want , it was made in 1993 so I understand 12s have evolved , what 8 would you suggest and would suggest multiple of them and I know the company does custom too so maybe they can make me one or a few, also I haven't built the line array yet , do u think it's a good idea because of the space and what I want ?

      @@zorhis1996 if you don’t mind me stepping in here. I have dual 12 in subs. One firing downward in a smaller family room. I was disappointed in the bass performance.
      The actual problem was that the room was too small. I put it in a larger living room setting and wow. Crazy solid and deep bass.
      The other person is correct when he says 18 inch subs are overkill in the room you have.
      A Kef subwoofer is more known for sweet natural and musical sound. I don’t think it’s made for gaming and home theatre.
      Continue to research and ask questions. The set up you suggested sounds pretty good too but only in a large room with high ceiling.
      It seems most who are into home theatre go with SVS these days. People that listen to 2 channel music go with Rel more.
      But with the size of your room I can see Rel doing very well too for gaming. I never even heard either subwoofer but they both seem very popular here on YT.

I want this to be loud and alot of impact , so now I'm think maybe 4 8" or something similar , I might be able to fit 2 8" enclosure on each end of my room diagonally , would that be better then just on one side ?

    • @f430ferrari5
      @f430ferrari5 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zorhis1996 the 4 x 8 in concept sounds good but before moving forward..are you able to try any equipment from your main system into the smaller room?
      My understanding is having multiple subs in a room like place diagonally is more to help balance the bass where it sounds good in any listening position. So it’s like you want a whole audience to enjoy.
      It seems to me the game room is just for yourself? So it’s just a matter of placing a sub in the right position?
      Currently your Kef sub is in a corner of the room? Maybe due to room acoustics there is flat spot from where you are sitting?
      Have you tried moving the Kef sub around the room?
      It’s hard to know what kind of bass are you looking for too. Maybe for reference. I’m sure you’ve seen YT vids where in car audio a person’s hair is flying around all over the place. Are you looking for this type of pressure or somewhere close?

    What sub you recommend with Proac K1 ?

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for reaching out, and for your interest in REL subwoofers. The ideal choice will depend on the size of your room that the system is placed in; for a smaller room the T/5x would be a good choice, though if your room is medium-to-large it would be worth moving up in size to the T/7x.

  • @kirlu50

    John, I am considdering two t5x's vs one t7x to pair with my Harbeth c7x speakers. The system is used for both music and TV, but music had priority in gear choises. My living room is 6 by 5 by 3.2. That is in meters, by the way - a volume of about 3400 cubic feet. It's a question of integration vs extension. I lean towards the two smaller units - am I right?

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Based on the size of your listening room I would actually recommend the single T/7x as being the preferred option for pairing with your Harbeth C7ES speakers, with the eventual goal of adding a second later on to make a stereo pair. Compared to the T/5x, the T/7x has a quicker and more dynamic output while also being able to reach deeper in it's low-frequency extension, which enables it to blend far more seamlessly with these speakers.

    A subwoofer speed is largely a function of lower group delay. Does Rel publish any measurements of output and group delay to justify their claims of superior speed? A 7/9 inch sub trying to produce 30hz at avg listening volume would need to work much harder - go in and out pistonically at a much greater distance than a much larger woofer. This is because the woofer needs to move a substantial amount of air to produce lower frequencies.

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for reaching out. Our Reference Series subwoofers have a filter circuit group delay of 4 ms, and all of our other current subwoofer models have a filter circuit group delay of 8 ms. However, other components also impact the speed of the subwoofer, including the unit's driver and amplifier design. I these cases, we use extremely lightweight-but-rigid drivers and high-current amplifiers with exceptional damping factor, all of which allow for exceptional dynamics and a seamless blend between the subwoofer and your main loudspeakers.
