Just to add on, history says the third guru of Sikhs Guru Amar Das ji refused to meet anyone who didn't partake in langar. So the emporer of India Akbar has to sit with common people on floor eat langar and only then he met with the guru. Langar is not only for needy it's to seek the blessings of the guru.
The langar hall of a gurdwara is a societal good. A free, hot meal after going for a while without food can be a major morale booster, as is seeing the smiling, selfless people serving it. You can't go wrong when you find this community whose religion is founded on service, compassion and equality. People of every different race, creed and caste sit together to eat and fellowship and the possibilities for life-changing dialogue with a stranger are endless. This, too, boosts one's morale.
I can’t believe that lady said we need to figure out how to make ends meet. Sikhs are NEVER worried about food shortages or money shortages in our GuruGhars there for Waheguru ji always provides.
Same here, I too was very shocked to hear her say that. She should have known that it is the Guru's Langar and Guru's treasures are always overflowing, she need not worry.
One thing I know for sure is this is a blessing from Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The divine blessings from his grace will forever be here, never need to worry about shortages. His grace is so abundant.

It’s things like this that make me so proud to part of the Sikh paanth, by going to the gurudwara in her time of need this lady may well start a journey into sikhi and no one has forced it on her as we Sikhs do not believe in forcing our beliefs onto others

It's a part of the Gurus word and hence a very pivotal part of the religion. Guru Ka Langar is as integral to Sikhi as the Kanga, Kachera, Kesh, Kara and Kirpan. As a hindu Im very proud of our Sikh brothers and sisters for serving god in the best way, which is serving humanity. Hindus also have this belief of seva or atma seva and we should do more to cultivate this attitude. Yes prasad is offered to all in hindu temples in the UK, but one thing that really humbled me when I went to a gurudhawra is seeing even ppl cleaning everyones shoes. We are no better or worse than each other, humble acts like this bring us closer to the divine. Id love to visit a gurdwara again and next time if I could I would like to do seva too🙏
As Sikh , food langar is never worried about cost and inflation, not even the admin there Because the process is so blessed by Sikh GURUS worship to God ,eat or spend whatever amount on this good deeds , there will never be a short but always a growth in all aspects ❤

If you are hungry and cannot afford food you should go to the Gurdwara. In india, they sometimes served the food just outside to the public.
