Thanks for showing the European trains. I like your western Maryland also. I have a C&O challenger upgraded to P2. It was a P1 in the beginning. Love the passenger cars. You have a great find. JH
Another great film Eric. I've always loved the European trains with their unique designs and color schemes. Unfortunately I missed the opportunity to purchase some when they were released. I had more local railroad interests in mind at the time. Thanks for sharing and "keep'em rolling ! 👍
Those European models that MTH did were quite impressive. I have the Western Maryland Challenger #1203. It's the largest steam I have on the layout followed by the Pennsylvania Q-2. Thanks for sharing your haul!
I have both 1203 and 1208 in mth m2’s. They run great. I also have the replacement shells for the 1-3-2 French locomotive. They are the black version. Have both the locomotive and tender shells. Both shells are wired and ready to be mounted.
With their popularity here in the US, MTH should continue making these. Heard the tooling was sold to some European company, but maybe MTH can license them PS3 (like Atlas) so they can be sold just as they once were here in the US.
The sound effect for the French engine is incorrect because the French locomotive is a compound with using steam twice and is very quiet. French steam locomotives were very complicated to maintain which is one of the reasons why they were replaced with electric trains. In the opening credits on the original fugitive series the train passenger cars say chaemin deer f i r which means Railroad in French my phone could not translated properly excuse the spelling.
@@erictrainman what a shame! I was really curious to see what they were saying. Do you know exactly where the Nord express went to? I had never heard of it until I just saw this video about now.
Wasn't the biggest fan of the European models but after seeing yours, WOW 🤯It's too bad MTH didn't do a TGV to compete against Lionel's Acela. Just imagine🙄
Agreed. When they first came out I didn’t pay much attention to them. Like many others, I was focused on legacy which was brand new and the plethora of other new tooling. Now many years later, I’ve realized how beautiful they are
That WM challenger is really nice, I had a chance to buy one at an auction in Nov 21', the guy got it for a bargain of $700, i had already at same sale practily stole a UP challenger with proto3 sounds for $450, lots ofbgreat bargains at that sale
MTH went all in with the detail on their European models. It was necessary to compete in that market. They also made a lot of it in 2 rail, since that’s what most people there use. It’s too bad this project wasn’t really a success.
@@erictrainman European O scale is mostly 2 rail fine scale. Read this as super expensive and super detailed. MTH products were cheap by comparison, which should have given them a huge advantage. However, While I don’t have any specific numbers, it’s obvious either the MTH products didn’t perform well there, MTH lost interest, or maybe the market was just too small. Even the European manufacturers that I do follow because of my interest in Swiss g gauge don’t seem to do much O scale anymore, so it is indeed a tough market. I do know from following European forums that people were not impressed with the MTH motor and drive train quality and performance. In fact, some companies actually offered replacement motors and gears for the MTH engines. I would agree that the performance of MTH China drive and DCS speed control is often poor compared to European motors with ESU speed control. We just don’t know any better over here. As a result, I suspect the MTH products were viewed as cheap in a negative sense over there. I’m not trying to knock MTH here since I think their goal was to offer affordable and good looking o gauge in Europe, which is a noble goal, but they may not have fully understood the market.
Can't beat the big M2 Fireball!! I love mine, WM all the way!!!
Very happy with mine as well!
Hi Eric,
Very nice collection!
Best match for the Rheingold Cars is a german Locomotive Class 18 from MTH
Interesting! I actually have one of those at the moment

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. I missed them on the first release as well. They’re tough to find nowadays but do pop up sometimes

Very nice! Sounds like we have similar taste
Great review! Just found your channel and subbed. Picking up my WM Challenger today, SUPER excited! Will have a review/run on my channel.
Great, thanks! I think I know the guy you got it from. I’m picking up another engine from him. Enjoy!

I actually learned that Mth still has some of the tooling. They’re looking into the possibility of running another European engine
Very impressive collection you have purchased Eric. Congrats!
Thank you!

Do you know what the French words are that are said, with the sound effects. Do you know what they’re saying?

Nice collection of BIG STEAM.

Very nice video. The WM and the european locos are awesome. Thanks for sharing, do not get to see the europeans often
Thank you!I I enjoy models that’s aren’t seen everyday
Excellent additions to your collection. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you and thanks for watching!
Gorgeous European trains and locomotives Eric and the detail, as you say, is mind boggling. I am still kind of partial to the WM Challenger however.
Thanks Roger! Really enjoying the challenger

Agreed. I’m not sure how successful they were with European customers. But they’re certainly sought after in the US 3 rail market

Extraordinary video friend 😊
Thanks buddy!
that Western Maryland locomotive is awesome
I love the European Locomotives. The detail is 2nd to none. I wish they would make more!
Agreed! Unfortunately I believe the tooling has been sold to Lenz
Always wanted an MTH European. I remember years ago one on-line dealer discounting a couple models to get rid of them. Should've snagged one then.
@@erictrainman Who is Lenz?

Awesome finds Eric. I think it’s a bit rude MTH puts more effort in the details of the European stuff lol
😂 that’s fair! They are beautiful though
