    DV, Thanks so much for all your instruction, I've been reading, listening and following along with everything you've done since the mid seventies, (yeah I know I'm really dating myself here). As a professional mechanic, engine builder, tuner and general all around hot rodder, everything comes down to....WWDV do? Thanks again, can't wait for the next installment!!

    Love the comparison to bullet coefficientancy . Very common for guys now days to measure the impact at long ranges. Realizing "speed" carries more impact then diameter and weight. Even with a smaller 6mm projectile and 100 grain. The impact retains the energy way out past 1000 meters. Dont ask how i know that!

      I can answer that, I did the E7's and two sets of 289 heads to help D.V. out for this comparison. I asked if he was interested in testing a set of gt40p I worked up and the testing was up to eight sets of heads at that point, so no more.

Just wish I could photographical remember it all and compile it all into my next two builds (yes, I've already read your head porting & how to build horsepower books). Heads are a big problem with the engine type I'm working with so what I'm learning is vital for me to build an efficient & powerful heads. And ultimately a powerful & torque laden built engine :)

    So obviously the word Chevrolet was used purposely here as if they're the only one who has powder metal rods and the only place to get a piston like this I mean this must have been an economic choice because I know there's far better stuff to spend the money on out there that doesn't have the word Chevrolet tied to it. Would really love to know the particulars and so on for the use of I'm assuming what is a LS piston and Rod.

I just like a list of changes to better get an overview of the power increase compared to parts/time/costs etc.. step by step.

    Another great video. Love the superior info that you bring to the table always. As an idea have you ever thought about doing a short video on some of the old orphan American V-8 engines of the past? I am thinking of your AMC engine file for 401, 390, 343, 304 and 290 engines. I think they deserve a dedicated video for AMX and rambler fans as I know there are many. Besides that maybe one more video grouping together all of the "other" lost V-8's that have driven into the sunset over the past 70 years like the Studebaker, Packard, International Harvester, Rambler 289, Buick Nailhead, Buick 215, Ford flathead V-8, early Hemi's, etc. I would love to hear your comments on these obsolete head and block designs and what can be done with them to improve performance. Sounds like great fun!

( lower compression is OK for me) BUT, I unshrouded the outer side of the intake valves chamberarea a little bit. AFTER WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS, i now real that could be bad for turbulance. Otherwise i did some cleanup of entire ports, no more bumps, port matched, to Edelbrock Performer. QUESTION...do you think the unshrouding would be a big problem for detonation or pinging ??

    David will you answer my question about bore to stroke ratios? Smokey Yunick used to say put the longest rod in a engine you possibly can, but that was in the 60s when cylinder heads didnt flow anywhere near like the tech of today giving a longer duration on the inlet stroke to fill through those poor flowing heads of the past. But the thinking today is the inverse ; people go for the biggest bore and the shortest rod / longest stroke they possibly can. Whats your take on this? I'll email this to you if you miss answering it, thanks.

    • @davidvonanderseck8649
      @davidvonanderseck8649 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My take on this I heard david say that only a portion of the bore is filled on the intake.
      Also what I learned is that it's about the pulse that acts as a ram jet
      Like the 460 has to long of a rod because when the piston comes down on stroke the longer rod glides down. I shorter rod jerks the piston to create a pulse to the intake runners to the carb
      I picked up on this on the rocker arm video. With 1.7 rockers the valve is quicker off the seat. Again creating a pulse to draw the airfield mixture
      Again in another video he was explaining flat tapet vs roller. It's the flat that allows the valve to open early allowing the lobe under earlier.
      I patularly learned this when I discovered the handycap of the 460. You can't get away with putting an aggressive cam with stock intake and injection. You can however put a high lift rv cam. I noticed the more duration didn't help as much as the sudden pulse of a 1.7 rocked and a hi lift rv cam will give me more power then a street cam with a lot of overlap.
      There's more power else where to be gained but I'm getting the science of all this.

    • @davidvonanderseck8649
      @davidvonanderseck8649 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think Smokey likes thr longer rods because he was doing a different kind of racing. It was circle track. So I imagine he liked to stay in thr higher revs. RPM. Which with a longer rod you get a angle on the power stroke. But a shorter rod gives a nice quick jerk on the piston.
      This probably why a 496 gives so much more torque on the low. But a hi reving 427 will rev to the moon on a circle track.
      There's another equation I came across. On a 454 seems like the have more power of you bore it 60 over. Making the bore wider to draw I'm more air fuel on the top.

    port volume is meaningless ( to me, you can change this variable with IN manifold shape) Most important to me is....Port diameter, top side port height, valve verses seat throat diameter, back side of IN valve shape verses chamber wall. A good port job means, knocking out valve guides, smoothing out any guide boss to match the port shape and only removing enough metal forward of the guide to the back of the IN seat to account for the valve stem volume and any new shaped bronze guide, ...Chamber shape is a whole new story

If I stop doing that I will almost certainly get ten messages asking the question I would have covered in the text messages. Tell you what guys - to make up for for this how about we work on a subject for a video between us and we get to edit it jointly. You seem like you have the where-with-alls so what can I loose? On the positive side I could well learn something - wad-du-yu say??? DV

    • @DodgyBrothersEngineering
      @DodgyBrothersEngineering 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marvingvx1 hi David I have said it before but I think it is worth repeating. You don't need whistles and bells when you have content worth listening to. If you were some young kid that is demonstrating the latest iPhone then whistles and bells help sell the message with some glitz.
      Like me you are an older guy (although you still have quite a few years on me) your voice is not as loud, or as clear as it was when you were younger (and I can guarantee you my hearing isn't getting any better with age either). This is just old age, lot of stuff is not what it once was (especially after 50), that is the privilege of old age. For your videos there needs to be ZERO music is the background, not turned down, not used in certain places, none whatsoever. It doesn't add to your videos, it takes away from them.
      Horses for courses you're not creating music videos you are talking about in depth technical information. Anything that makes it harder to understand what you are saying is taking away from the video. Even at very low levels the music can blend into your accent and make it harder to concentrate on what you are saying. Most of your audience doesn't have your experience and that means that we need to listen very hard to understand what you are saying, it isn't just a case of hearing what you say verbally, we also need to process that information quickly. Any form of distraction makes that job harder to really understand the full depth of what you are trying to convey is counter productive.
      Same goes for the scrolling text. I see something pop up on the screen and I am like a cat watching a laser pointer, my eyes are darting all over the screen trying to read what is coming up while trying to listen to what you say / process it. Large bright / multi coloured text are all distractions, and scrolling just makes it a nightmare.
      I use captions in my videos to add additional information, but I try where possible to put the static text in the same spot (not always possible depending on the light source) so it is one less thing to focus on, if text comes up you can expect it to be in the same spot.
      I try and use a smallish simple clean font, so it can be read fast. I only leave the text on the screen long enough to read, no longer, so I will read what I have typed several times in editing myself to make sure I haven't left it up there too long and avoid taking away from what I am doing. Over use of text is a really big no no.
      Text should only be used to correct a mistake, and not be used to explain something. If something needs to be explained further or in greater clarity, the video should be reshot, or added later on as an addendum. Using text to clarify what you meant while you are still speaking is not a good way to do it.
      Think of text like another person speaking at the same time. If you are talking and text is coming up, you are talking over yourself. That is why I say it should only ever be used to make corrections, or some piece of information that is absolutely vital that it be added at that moment in time. Don't be afraid to stop talking, or even stop the video completely if you need to add in text.
      Nothing stops you adding in a single colour screen with text on it (again words are important not a fancy background that is a distraction from reading the words), and let the video run long enough to read it at a normal reading pace then go back to you in the video. It isn't super hard to add those in editing.
      I totally get that sometimes things need to be elaborated on, or to clarify to avoid a lot of questions, but inserting text while speaking is not necessarily the answer. Don't be afraid to put pregnant pauses in your videos after making a statement that requires thought. Remember your audience isn't in your head or has your years of experience, we might need a bit of time to digest a complex thought. So if you think you have said something that takes some thinking about leave a few seconds before you start talking again.
      You have two basic types of TH-cam viewers, those that are never going to watch the whole video and you will only ever have their focus for a short while, and those viewers who will watch the whole video if it is an hour long. While you are saying something meaningful the second lot of viewers are going to keep watching, so don't be afraid to give them chance to digest what you are saying. What is a complete waste of time is your intro scene. I hit the fast forward button twice (10 seconds) to skip that garbage. You don't need a count down for a video, it's not a livestream you are not waiting for it to start, the video starts the moment you hit the play button.
      In most case livestreams don't even need countdowns, it just comes across as a cheap and tacky way to pad out your video time (it is why a lot of TH-cam content makers use them). If you want to make your videos longer, leave some pauses to digest the content, please get rid of that awful countdown intro and scrolling text.
      I will keep an eye out for the next few videos to see if there is any change, but until serous changes are made they are just too hard to watch regardless of how much I enjoy the content. Regards Paul.

      @@alanwhite3280 and if I asked you to highlight the 10 key points of a video, could you tell me? I watch TV to be entertained, I watch experts to learn and absorb everything I can. I don't mean that to sound snarky, but not everyone is going to get the same amount of information out of a video as others, some will stare blankly at the screen and learn nothing, but they can still say they watched the video. People who actually know what they are talking about are few and far between, there is a boat load of TH-camrs who would have you believe they know what they are talking about but are full of piss and wind to impress the uneducated. If I am going to spend valuable time watching a video for learning purposes I want the best chance possible of doing that, otherwise I might as well join the brain dead and watch Cleetus McFarland and his twin turbskis with the other zombies.

      @@DodgyBrothersEngineering l agree with your comment to me. I do have a check down list in my head(nothing formal). At times when l decide to turn something off it seems my list does not extend beyond three: content, passion, and does it make sense.
