I'm really thinking of getting the Snapdragon 845 variant purely because of the Superior GPU. I was actually gonna do the very same test at some point.

The sd 845 has a lot faster and better GPU (lower power consumprion, 50% higher framerates, lower temps and so on). It's just better and as we can see if we exclude geekbench, the sd 845 wins in benches too + real world performance. Saw a lot of test closer to real world where the sd is a lot faster like workload and browsing. If you have the choice - take the SD version.

If you're in the USA, Qualcomm is the only one that works with all carrier technologies.
Avery Kucan no it doesn't. Depends where you are lol. If you like games loading .5 second faster than go for it.. otherwise the exynos has much better battery and opens apps quicker.

Saf, these aren't PHONE SPEED tests, these are FLASH STORAGE SPEED tests. Do you understand the difference...? You should at the very least be testing gaming performance.

you are right, both the cpu speed is high but flash storage speed is not up to the cpu speed. so opening apps depends on flash storage speed.
ex: windows opens in 30sec in SSD and 3min in HDD
Yeah, everythingapplepro did a s9 exynos test where he rendered a 8k video and it dethroned the iphone x, something the snapdragoon variant couldn't do, people don't understand doing these type of test doesn't prove the power of the exynos even the iPhone x gets beat by apps opening but when you render videos you know heavy shit that's when the power shows

Its because videoshop just updated their app(26/3/18) and every android phone prepares the video( first step) almost instantly no mater the phone(my 2015 android phone does it in 3 sec) and the second part takes the normal time (probably the iphone wins). I heard something about Samsung slowing down the exynos variants of the s9's to keep it from being drastically faster than the snapdragon variants...

Samsung tends to be over optimistic with their stock clock speeds is what I have found out, so while their rated stock speed might be higher, they've always taken their tolerances higher than what most chip makers would do.
Like back then, Samsung would overclock off the shelf Snapdragons as well, so you'd always see that the same chip on a samsung device would always be clocked higher than other devices with a equivalent chip.

The Exynos beat the IPhone X in 4K exporting and Ram management. The IPhone seems marginally faster, while opening apps, but is slower than the Snapdragon 845 running S9+

For most people, the different versions won't make much of a difference. The main time it does is when you want to root the device (Exynos is MUCH easier) or when you use 3rd party camera apps like FiLMiC Pro (Exynos has access to all frame rates while SD doesn't).
Albert Stewart the bad thing about the exynos variant is that you cannot put roms other than stock based roms.

Samsung deliberately slowed down the Exynos bu a huge margin for it to match the Snapdragon so US customers wouldn't get a much slower phone. :D So yeah.
And even still, while they slowed it hugely down, it still has like 70% better score on the best benchmark out there.
The Exynos is the better processor, and everyone in the industry, and those who read the news, knows it.
This doesn't mean that the Snapdragon sucks, it's just more than two times slower than the Exynos if it was in full power.

Basically, Geekbench doesnt mean shit. But whatever, the Exynos has a better battery life, which is way more important compared to a tiny bit more speed. Im glad i live in europe

Kevin V. No that just isnt true. Almost every snapdragon owner has said that the battery life was average to a little underwhelming. While i havent heard of any exynos owner complaining. Also, im pretty sure the exynos models use their superior cpu power to handle some other more important stuff better than the snapdragon variants.

I see the normal one SnapDragon for $370 and the International Maple gold (Which I really want striclty for the color) for $430. The $60 doesnt really mean much to me. I want the Gold ranger power. But the Gold one since it's International is Exynos. What do you recommend? I'm upgrading from a Note 5.

I'm surprised. I was pretty mad about getting being in the snapdragon region following benchmark tests but this is very unexpected. I still cancelled my pre-order, but it's nice knowing that had I got one, it wouldn't have been slow.

I've always been interested in the difference between these processors because I never had a problem with performance on my Note 5 (Exynos) but my Note 7 (Snapdragon) always had performance issues but that could also be contributed to a number of factors most of all lack of software support. I would be interested if you used both versions similarly to see a long term comparison of your performance experience

The exynos is underclocked to match the snapdragon less greater performance but the snapdragon has a better GPU. Thus the snapdragon is slighty faster in nearly everything.
But in theory exynos might give a better battery life in very very demanding apps.

Michael Ferguson not really , in speedtest 1+5t was still faster than exynos 9810 , but at the same time exynos 9810 had much High benchmarks and capability (like 4k 120fps) which snapdragon 845 can't.

Having said that, the snapdragon's adreno GPU does outperform the exynos GPU.

You know you can hard press home button area to go to main screen even if the nav bar is hidden. Don't need to swip up to show the nav bar and then press home.

The Snapdragon is used in the United States because the cellular modem in the Exynos doesn't support the cellular frequencies used in the United States.
I think its more specifically CDMA tech in the Qualcomm. Apple use a qualcomm modem in the iPhone for the CDMA variants.
