this is great! i had to revise my question but, when i press add hair system the curve isn't in the system anymore and gives me the 'socket resolution not found' warning right off the bat, how do i fix this?
I have just posted out an update - I somehow managed to launch with a buggy version 🙈 So sorry for the inconvenience! Please re-download the addon when you can and the issue should be fixed
@EarlGrayTe I have updated both. The version number is the same as I essentially uploaded the wrong file originally! Just uninstall the first and install the new one and it should work. So sorry for the hassle!

I hope you could also do an update video on how this could be easily applied to existing characters rigs for animation, possibly without too much of a destructive approach of turning them into mesh geometry

I was literally trying to create / find a solution for this exact function last week because I like the look but I hate the Grooming tools for the new hair system! I'd love if we could set the braid modifier to only affect specific curves without duplicating the entire system, as rn its hard to blend the braid into the rest of the hair. Maybe some sort of mask or selection like a subcollection for Braid curves?
I use blender to make 3d models for my 3d printer. Is this hair addon able to make the hair manifold? Are the hairs solid enough to 3d print, or would more sculpting be needed? I know 3d printing sculptures is a small market, so this may be outside the scope of your addon. Thank you.
this looks very cool, thaks for the addon, it combienes perfectly the"easy" method for creating hair witch curves, and the powerful hair system inside blender, would it ble possible to convert a mesh into hiyr maybe or only curves?
So cool! Is this animatable? If not, it would be cool to be able to generate an animatable rig for it. I know how to set up animatable curves manually using hook constraints and parenting them to bones, but it's very tedious. Also, I wish Blender's system allowed for this much control out of the box, but at least the open source-ness allows amazing humans like you to fill in the gaps!

You just need to add a new hair system. I'm going to put together a demonstration for creating a hairstyle. I'll be sure to add braids :)

Yes I'm pretty sure you can add physics to curves. I do need to explore this a bit further on what the best workflow is.
