First RC was a Tamiya R34 GT-R Calsonic and it sparked my interest in electronics and motorsports. Also remember as a kid taking out the front drive shafts and making it uncontrollable but it was so much fun. Also shout out to you for re kindling the fun.

My 1st kid and only RC car was a 1993 Nikko Cobra 3.
I just rediscovered the RC world at 34yo and bought a Reely Free Men in kit version (SCX10 clone) to learn how it's made and I already done some modifications and I love that.
And I can thank you Kevin because before buying something, I discovered your channel, your good mood and happiness :)

First time I was exposed to hobby grade RC cars was when my friend got a Team Associated buggy for his birthday, back in the late 90's. I was completely blown away by the speed and the fact that it was surviving the little jumps he was going over. A year or so later was when I got a Stampede for my birthday. The Traxxas hate was almost worse back then than it is now!

I was in 4th grade when I went to a hobby shop and my grandmother bought me my first rc car. It was a Traxxas Rustler, and I remembered how excited I was to show my parents. I drove it around a lot until 6th grade when a spindle broke and I didn’t have any tools to fix it. I put into storage until last year when I fixed and drove it again, sadly there was more problems with it and I didn’t have time to restore it.

Loved watching you reminisce your memories Kev. Reminds me of all the hobbies and stuff I did with my dad. Rc cars, planes, and helicopters. Loved launching model rockets with him and helping him fix our neighbors and friends cars. Same with helping him modify an Audi A4 that he blew up the engine in when he added nos to a stock engine 😂. If it wasn't for those memories I would of never developed my passion for the love of tinkering and fixing cars and other things that needed to be fixed. I'm happy to see we both share these same kind of memories.

My first hobby grade was a Tamiya Tamtech 1/24scale Rothmans LeMans Porsche! about a year later I got a ‘Clod Buster’. Then I got a ‘Blazing Star’ that looked exactly like your first one Kev. After that I got my first nitro, a Kyosho rampage buggy. Traded it in for a Traxxas nitro rustler. Upgraded every part you can think of on that, put a crazy engine in it and broke the engine in half on the second run! LOL!!!! Sold it as a rolling chassis and bought my HPI RS4 3 SS nitro. After a couple years running that, it went into storage & I acquired the OFNA Z10 nitro as a rolling chassis from a neighbour who was going to throw it away. They both stayed in storage until I started watching you on TH-cam. Got them both running again & have now added a Gen8 scout, and TRX4 G500 to the garage. Thanks for asking Kev! 😁👍👊👌🤘

Thanks for bringing all those memories back Kevin! I used to have a Nitro Hawk(until about 10 years ago in fact). I loved it! I came across it in a box in my garage and gave it to a neighbor kid who actually got it up and running again! It's funny how everything "fast" back then was Nitro and the electric stuff only ran a few minutes. Now with lipo batteries, quality chargers and brushless motors we are getting amazing run times and power/speed from even the basic entry level kits. It's a great time to be in the hobby!

Cool video. I remember when I was younger I wanted a Nikko monster truck and a TYCO Fast traxx. The only money I was able to get was collecting cans on the railroad tracks, but that was to buy candy and soda. My parents were so poor they had barely enough to keep food on the table for us let alone buying us RCs or giving us an allowance. I wasn't allowed to work until I was 18. When I finally got a job, my parents charged me $50 every paycheck to live under their roof. At the time I was only making $5.15 an hour, so that was nearly half my paycheck. Eventually I bought my first vehicle with that $5.15 an hour wage for $600. A 1987 Jeep Cherokee. Between putting insurance on it in my name, food, and "rent" I had nearly no money left over to buy an RC still. I lost focus on RC and took focus in other areas. I was away from RCs for so long that I didn't realize how durable they high end hobby grades were, that is till I seen one of your videos. I think you only had a X-Maxx, Rustler, and the Slash at that point but not 100% sure. After that video I bought my first RC. Real RC, not those K-Mart, Ames, Hills, etc RCs. Those were toys and broke the same day I bought them (why I lost sight of the RC hobby). When I seen you jump your X-Maxx probably 40 feet, rolled for about 15 into a bush, pulled it out and drove it away, I knew I had to have one. My first job was working at a junkyard, then a tire shop, and then a weld shop, then aerospace/aircraft parts producing. I have a lot of automotive and metal working background and being so, opted for a Nitro RC as I wasn't very good with electronics at the time. My first was the Traxxas Revo 3.3 nitro. Was between that or the T-Maxx 3.3. After that it was all history. Ended up buying 6 more and still have plans on getting more.

My dad started with an old Tamiya Porsche 959. Trying to restore it for his birthday. I took one look under the body shell and I was like: "Where's the driveshaft if it's 4wd?", "Was the ESC really that big?" It was like a time capsule. The ESC even had the a needle on it. Just a little backstory. Cheers Kev!

My first R/C is a Traxxas 2wd Rustler. Brushed Stinger 20 turn and a mechanical speed controller, Tamiya connectors to use Tamiya connector NiCd batteries that got us about 8 minutes of run time on a good day.

I remember all of that and still have a lot of it... Even still got the radio gear you got with your kit and trickle charger with original tamiya battery!

My first car was a helion Dominus SC (2011-2014) and I still have it completely stock, except I changed the electronics in it to the ones that came out of my second rc car, an arrma senton, (12 turn brushed motor, 2s esc, 7kg servo) because I was upgrading that one to brushless. The electronics started glitching in the first one and it’s been off the road 3 years since.

My first was a tamiya grasshopper I got on my 7th birthday, when I watched your first video of you bringing out your manta ray I brought out my grasshopper, it still worked but it would cut out, I had traxxas parts laying around so I put a tq radio and receiver, and a xl5 esc, it’s working very nice now and I have it in a cover to keep it nice

OMG! Not sure if you read your comments, but how nostalgia kicks in is crazy.
My first car of importance was a Tamiya Bigwig bought from Beaties, then most of my other stuff from Otley Modelsport, (B4 it was simply named Modelsport).
Then I had the Mardave Marauder with an Irvine 21 ABC engine, and a Mardave Mini, then a Shumacher Pro cat.
My pride and joy came as a Tenth Technology ex works race car (fitted with the works anti squat gearbox, and wishbones, carbon propshaft and loads of other upgrades).
I had one of the first batch of the Rothmans 500 Kyosho motorcycle's to hit the UK. Amongst a ton of other stuff including a second hand Tamiya Subaru Brat....
My mate and I raced on a track in Corby, and "Radio Racecar" magazine done a small article saying that it was like driving on ball bearings.. lol 🤣.
I have also owned a MK1 and MK2 Fiesta, I removed the bonnet badge and scraped off the blue leaving the silver lettering, then sprayed it Rainbow 😂. I've also owned 2 series 3 landrovers LMAO.
Then, and this now is borderline bizarre. For my CDT Project at school I made a MDF Mould of a Le man's car and Vac formed it. Also, I handbraked turned in the snow in the old cattle market in Kettering (behind the now Dunelm mill store) and stoved my nearside front wing in.
I also have original Sanyo Scrc matched saddle packs if you want a vintage paper weight lmfao.
    Thanks for the memories 😁😁😁

I remember having this little magazine.. but it was Nikko brand.. and it was a premium little flyer... I'll never forget the big one. It was like a jeep.. but with a gas engine.. I wanted it since I was 10... Maybe younger

My Tamyia Grasshopper/Hornet was fully ball raced, had a kyosho LE-MANS 240SB 14 turn double I think it was about 1986. Magazines I read, had were Radio Control Car Action.

I had a gold pan RC10, with the white arms. Built my own battery pack out of red cells, don't remember the name. An orange Novak speed controller. I only had the Novak for two months when I ran it into a Stop sign. Tore the left front arm off, and tore the chassis. That was the end of my RC journey until 2006ish when I got a Savage X nitro.

Tamiya madbull was my first with that mechanical speed controller lol, then got a Kyosho 2ws nitro buggy but the real gem of my early teens was HPI MT2 with all the upgrades! including the hardened diff gears for the OS 21 engine, it just constantly stripped spurs but was amazing!

Thanks Kevin for the cool video, my first car was a cox nitro willys not a rc but a tether one and would just go in circles 😀, but my first hobby grade was a kyosho gallop mk2,think I paid between 70/80 dollars, and my radio was a futaba attack, great fun!

I grew up with a single mom and a brother. Never was money around to pay the enormous prices for RC stuff back in the 70s. I used to go through all kinds of mags and catalogs as a kid too. I started RC a few years ago and am suprised and happy how affordable things have become. The electronics have evolved enormously too. Now as an older guy I can drive RC cars and fly planes. I feel with you how you dreamed of all the stuff back then, Kevin. You have it made now and can enjoy which ever models you like.
