- In this video I'm introducing a new project: my custom 8-bit computer, based on a cool-but-less-known CPU from the late '70s: the 6809.
This is a start of a new series where I will build the system step by step, trying to explain something interesting during each step of the way. Enjoy!

Nice! Looking forward to it too
Cool! The CPU of my first computer (the Motorola version), the TRS-80 Color Computer w/ 4K of RAM. Liked and subscribed.
There use to be a CoCo (a later version, the 64K CoCo 2) at home and I learnt how to choose with it.
Some may say that I'm doing this as a nostalgia build, but I actually researched quite a bit some of the options (6502 and Z80 mainly) before deciding on this. The CoCo had meh hardware with an amazing CPU (which compensated a bit for some of the lacking graphics/sound)
This made me want to look for the Z80 processor again. :)
I never have written code for it, but I studied a bit most of the architectures mentioned here before deciding on the 6809 (which I have experience with).... What are your favourite things about the Z80?
@@dmoisset No particular reason, perhaps nostalgia. (The microcomputers made in Hungary had Z80-clone processors.)
Great to see a non Z80 build. Did some 6800 builds myself looking forward to this 6809 one. Are you considering a floppy or SD card to run FLEX?
@@BLSrr I don't have access to a floppy and I'm not planning to. SD card could be an option
I've never ran flex09, only heard of it, but definitely fits into the "cool stuff to run" that is like to try. Do you know where to find it?
After exploring a bit more about flex, it sounds really exciting, although it's a bit of a long term goal (a lot of hardware needs to happen before getting there). If I get uniflex running that would be more than I ever expected. We'll see where this gets
@@dmoisset Sounds great there not manny of those on youtube. I'm also looking for FLEX to get running on my system, but like you I need disk hardware which I still have to make.
