@SerSeriana if you sharpen the Bedan carefully and use a diamond hone to put the final edge on the tool, using it regular like the 1st inch of the tool from the sharp point back towards the handle should last you a very, very long time, so what I did was round over the corners of the tool from that point back towards the handle, as I too was having the corners dig into my tool rest.
    Cheers!

At the beginning when the wood stops?
No, I'm using a "Safety Center" type of drive, it has a very small surface to drive the wood, so I had to increase the pressure on the tailstock until the wood was being driven enough to NOT stop like that.
    Cheers!

@Aharndts Sharpening it is a bit tricky the first time, you sharpen it face down, on the grinder and go back and forth, being careful to NOT over heat the thin part. Then use a diamond hone to sharpen that face.
NEVER sharpen the back flat side of the bedan, you can touch it up to make sure the corners are square with a diamond stone I use a #400. it should be SHARP, like slice paper sharp!
    Cheers!

So wish he would redo this video in a higher quality.

Looks good, probably take forever to get such a nice looking product by hand!

Using it bevel side down is a lot easier to transition the two curves, by riding the bevel you control the diameter of the piece in the same manner as a normal gouge (by lifting handle up and down.

Hey Stu, I'm just wondering, did you have several catches in the begining of your video?

What is the angle of sharpening? I got one today and the angled part seems to have a hollow grind. The flats and sides are just done with a diamond hone. My problem probably was that I was running the lathe a lot slower than 1800 that you recommended.
How about a Bedan Sharpening video. Or does someone else have one?

One Question, How do you sharpen it? I purchased a 3/8" and 1/2" But I am reluctant to use until I figure out how to or the proper method. Care to share please?

    Hi Stu
How high is your tool rest with respect to the lathe center line. In your two Jean Francois Escoulen tutorial videos he said it is better to have it a little high than low but I couldn't hear exactly what height he recommended.

The rest should be above center, how much is something you have to figure out, partly due to the diameter of the wood you are turning and partly due to you own style, but is should certainly be above the centerline, NOT below. I think for the eggs I was attempting I was about 2 mm above the centerline, maybe 1/8".
      Cheers!

Excellent video but the lathe noise covers the narration.

      Thank you.
The video was shot over 14 years ago, I was just starting out in this TH-cam thing, there was much to learn.

Thank you very much for the explanation but again it places the camera better not to cover it when working. Thank you

Sorry about the poor quality of the video, that was nearly 10 years ago.
I hope it was at least useful.
      Cheers!

Basically it's very good. Only at some point does the turner cover the camera. Thank you very much. And to keep putting videos, they are very good.
