It seems to me this young man was trying to help a friend who was determined to end her life. This case is scary to me. The State seemed to act from a position of a bruised ego - he dared to lie! I can truly understand why in the USA and GA, in particular, a young black man might choose to lie and it not be because he murdered his friend. For me, the GUN is the linchpin in this case. It was HERs. She took HER mom's gun. And she carried HERSELF and HER mom's gun to that park. There was zero evidence presented that she was afraid of him, he had harmed her in anyway. They were friends - not lovers. There was something mentioned that at an earlier time they had dated. This case closed on both sides with so much left up the air. Too much in my opinion to convict this young man of murder. I can't imagine what he lived that day. Not to diminish her death but this friend was young. I truly believe he went there to help stop his friend. Boys according to studies mature later than girls. And this girl was not a frail, tiny girl. She went there with a purpose and he could not stop her.

Lady Detective on The First 48 pretty much solved this. Austin's Google searches leading up to the night this happened showed he was shopping for a gun. Tori's searches show she's looking for a way to make some money to pay for her car insurance! She stole her moma's gun to sell to Austin. It either went off accidentally or on purpose and her hair got splayed out by Austin dragging her body behind that tree to hide her! The blood transfer shows that too! It's either an accident or murder kuz they were in that park playing with the gun! That's why there are 2 shell casings!! Not Suicide at all!! They were in the park kuz he wanted to fire it before he bought it.

I truly feel for this young man. I can truly understand why he did what he did. Sure it was irrational. And of course, some of it was illegal. But good grief, he is called by his best friend who shared she was going to a particular park to end her life. She drove herself. She brought her mom's gun. This young man went there and tried to stop her and failed. His DNA, his prints, ... were at the scene. What to do? He has a girlfriend and either a baby on the way or a newborn baby at that time. He panicked. The coroner said could be suicide. There was NO MOTIVE for this man to want/need his best friend dead Add to this the fear in some black communities of police. Good Grief, the prosecutors seem to have delivered a cafeteria style case - Choose A or choose B or choose C. I think the best verdict is D - none of these.
