There are no words left in my vocabulary to describe them and their talent - I went to see them last December and what a show they put on...not only were they excellent with their music but they were just fun loving guys you'd just like to hang with. You are soooo far behind their newer music but...take your time and treat yourself to the best music on earth. I can tell by you facial expressions how they "connect" with you - and it's the same way they connect with everyone...just darn good music... Don sounded great for 75! He’s the writer and singer of the original song. He was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and he asked Home Free to come to LA and celebrate and sing the song…pretty cool. They did that. I like all of them taking a part. This is such a great song and an even greater rerecording. The verses are all biopic and very interesting to look deeper into. Some are rather dark and there are a ton of different theories but are quite fascinating.

Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly, and the Big Bopper. They had just done a concert at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa. There is a video of Tim Foust visiting the Surf Ballroom and talking with the curator of the museum the ballroom put together. There are some pictures from their last concert just hours before the crash.

"Who is he?" No one much. Just Don McLean, the man who recorded American Pie over 50 years ago (1971) and his version of it is still being played today. I was glad to see him collaborating with Home Free but this is McLean's song and he had a huge hit with it long before any of the Home Free guys were born.
The day the music died refers to the plane crash in 1959 that killed rock and roll stars Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens. There is also a lot of symbolism in this song the references many other rock legends such as the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Elvis, The Byrds song 8 Miles High, and more.

This is Don's biggest hit, but the best song he ever wrote was Vincent (Starry Starry Night). SO many people covered it. It's truly a beautiful poem set to a beautiful tune.

The verses are all biopic and very interesting to look deeper into.

someone said that Adam was literally lightheaded when they finished filming this which I can believe because it's such a long song and he goes hard on the drums all the way through and as soon as the drums stop he joins the harmony. I don't know when he breathes most of the time anyway.

I drank a LOT of Jack Daniels and Dr. Pepper while my friends smoked dope out at the lake during my high school years. This version with Home Free is probably the best version I've heard bar none. There was an advertisement for Chevrolet sang in 1953 by Dinah Shore who was a top-charting female vocalist of the 40s and 50s. The fact it was now dry refers to the change in the social climate in the 60s compared to the 50s.
2. ‘Singin' This'll Be The Day' - in the chorus
Likely refers to Buddy Holly's song "That'll Be the Day."
3. ‘But February Made Me Shiver’
Of course refers to the deaths of Buddy Holly, along with singers the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens, and pilot Roger Peterson, who perished in a plane incident on February 3, 1959. Their small aircraft went down on a snowy late night after a concert in Clear Lake, IA.
