Great video Ben. I've used Gransfors Bruk for 40 years, and always used raw linseed oil. When I was a kid I kept a steel pail of linseed oil to drop my axe into head first, leave it for an hour or two, then remove it. What this does is allows the raw linseed oil to draw up into the axe handle, swelling the wood (keeps the head tight), keeping it waterproof as well as more resilient. Remember to use raw linseed oil and NOT boiled. The boiled will draw up into the wood, but will harden, which is not what you want. I hope you are all well. Best from New England. :-)

Love listening to this video. Just joined the Kent Green woodworkers, Went to 1st meeting in the woods the other week and had an amazing time looking forward to getting into green woodworking. But with vision impairment it was quite funny they let me use a one-sided axe . They worried a bit they worried about me cutting my fingers off but being blind I know where my hands are all times quite interesting started to make a rustic three Leggate stall. But got to get a throat and a one-sided X so we were looking on your website., But listening to this was very interesting. Just gutted I can’t see it

Great video on great axes. My axe head has developed a coating of linseed oil over the years, corrosion free. 👍👍👍

I'm lucky enough to own a small forest axe, it's a thing of beauty, can't be faulted in any way, if you are only ever going to own one axe, the Gransfors small forest axe is the one to go for in my opinion.

Yup. I have only one axe and it's the Gransfors Small Forest Axe. I love this little axe so much. I carve with it and can do camp task. Processing woods with this axe is so fun. It will stay with me for the rest of my life.

I've been spoon carving for a little over a year now and I think I'm ready to put the $ into a Gransfors axe. I am considering either a wildlife hatchet or the small hand hatchet and was wondering which you would suggest for this 55 year old woman who will only be using it for making spoons. IIs there much of a weight difference between those two? Thanks!

How do I know which ax is best for me? I live in the seiras in California and would use for fire making and survival shelter projects and things like that

Well that’s a good question I would say for what you have described the small forest axe is a perfect all round axe.
Great for shelter building and felling but still small enough for craft work. Hope that helps
      cheers Ben

Did you walk past me w/ canoe a few weeks back or more in Mowzul? 😳 it might have been a döppelgänger(umlauts are no my first language marks). They do exist, carrying canoes and kayaks...I don’t believe in them but still get asked if my boats is the one I may have been alongside waiting for a tide. Rewinds vid for another beginning.. hoping you don’t have a Gransfors that I really shouldn’t need.🤪

Damn! You have the Pocket & Hand...damn damn damn...looks over a Money-Pig for smashing. Or a bar && chain!!! 😖 *i was just about to clean up a Plumb Scout that has been demanding some attention. But the haft is too tiny in diameter for my paw. I maybe sending it to Holland to a cloggy_archaeologist who has the right sized hands...☹️ Which gets me back to looking at the Ceramic Porker. Axe or Tree munching bits to add the Husky in the Bath.😟

Why another small forest axe? Because every little forest needs one.
