I believe he enjoys entertaining in font of all the people. He constantly interacts with them. Have not seen a gorilla as active and as playful as he is.
these are clips from different days. They have a large outside area. He is with his wives and children. He's super playful and loves the attention. I do not like zoos because I hate animals being locked up, but this family lives together as they would naturally and they enjoy each other's company as much as sometimes they argue. Shabani likes to tease, esp one of his wives but if by accident he hurts her, he apologizes. He's a sweet gorilla and also with his children. He gets pissed sometimes when he hears the chimps but he's a lot more chill than chimps. It's the gorilla's display but he's especially playful. He's like a big kid. He was very gentle toward his two children when they were babies.

I've never seen Shabani this interactive with the crowd! This is now one of my favorite Shabani videos ever. It's great to finally see him fully adjusted to his new home.

If you'd even bothered to watch up to 11.00 you would see Shabani go out and look at his outside enclosure, but it's a weird thing they actually enjoy playing in their inside enclosure a lot, I think they feel safer and that's just where they 'hang out', maybe it's too hot in the midday sun, either way don't jump to conclusions, they have the option but choose to be inside for this video so respect their decision right ?, these gorillas are zoo bred and spend their lives interacting with their keepers = humans, they know humans clean their enclosure several times a day, feed them, give them toys, protect them from other gorilla silverback attacks, they are Safe, Well fed and Well looked after, they are NOT bothered by people watching them like wild gorillas could be, so what exactly is your problem again ?, would you rather they are released into the wild the way things are at the moment, within months you would probably see their skulls and hands being sold as ashtrays to rich tourists at some Jungle shop, is that what you want ?.

Gorillas are amazing, loving parents. Especially Shabani. He's so playful. They are bored though, since they're such intelligent animals. I would love to see the zoo keepers showing them how to paint, and play musical instruments. Im sure they would learn immediately and show us how creative and talented they are. Plus, they could show off their new talents to visitors, who perhaps would be even more entertained watching these amazing animals paint and play instruments. I'm not saying they will be master painters or play in a gorilla band, lol...but at least they won't be so bored, and everyone would enjoy it. 😁
No. Never seen or heard of a Gorilla painting and playing instruments in the wild. He is enclosed but not a circus animal. Also he is not bored. Gorillas spend there days forging for food. Sitting in one place. Taking care and playing with their family.

They are not bored -- they know how to entertain themselves, and are more active than in the wild. They are not circus animals and are not there to entertain the humans. According to research they are entertained by people watching. I'd say they're living a pretty good life without leopards, poachers, big game hunters, and constant foraging for food and territory. This family looks stable, healthy, and very bonded. Kudos.

Yeah true but at the same time these gorillas are lucky to be there. If they were in the wild they would most likely be dead by now from evil humans because illegal hunting in the Congo. They are killed for fun. So to say the least it is probably better off that they are here. They live a healthy life, live a lot longer. And make relationships with other gorillas.
There's an Ebola pandemic killing off a third of wild gorillas. You want to throw Shabani and his family into that? Most gorillas are born in zoos, so they wouldn't have much survival skills in the wild either.

How adorable is little Kiyo, he copies his dad in all of his moves. Kiyo will be a magnificent silverback in the future. He will have his kind loving genes from his mum Nene and his fun loving playful side from his dad Shabani. Kiyo has been raised in a perfect balance with both his parents. His close bond with little Annie keeps him fit and healthy with all the exercise they get when they are chasing and playing. Also he's got a big sister Ai to go to when he wants even more attention and love. Kiyo is one lucky little gorilla.
Sad for sure, but just remember, if it weren't for these Zoos the population would be almost nil for these beautiful animals! I totally agree their habitat should be as close to their ancestors as possible, theynow wouldnt make it in the wild, remember they were born in captivity, so they know no difference!
