My wonderful Patty D story. My mother was struggling with something my 12 year old brain couldn’t process. It scared me out of my mind. Then I randomly picked up Call Me Anna, as I was a big fan of the Patty Duke Show. Suddenly everything made sense. My mom had bipolar disorder. She hadn’t been diagnosed yet. I had her read the book and she got help. Many years later, I was working with Sean and I told him my story and he immediately called her and put her on the phone 😱 I got to thank her for saving my mom’s life. She was so kind and wonderful to me. 😊

Another great round-up of an actor's life and career. Thank you..
I know several people who've worked with Sean Astin over the years and not a single one of them (and they're ery varied in terms of class and race and sexuality and plain, dumb civility) have a bad thing to say about him. They all rate him as an actor, but everyone will tell you he is a sterling human being. Three of them said the same thing to me at different times: "I want to be Sean Astin when I grow up" - and one of them was old enough to be his grandfather!

As a teen, I was diagnosed by one doctor as bipolar. But, I never took the lithium that was discussed. I knew that my father had been talking negatively about me to the doctor, and the doctor wanted to please my father, who was paying him. The doctor made it sound absolutely terrible, the bipolarism. But, I felt fine and didn't worry about it. I think that shocked the doctor. I only saw him once.

I remember one terrible tabloid headline from the time when Patty Duke was first pregnant and was sexually involved with three men at the time - one of which was Desi Arnez Jr. (Lucille Ball's son). Patty Duke thought that he might be the baby's father. I remember Lucille Ball being interviewed by a gossip magazine and stating "I'll accept the baby as my grandson, but I won't accept his mother". How cruel!

I’m Australian and I didn’t watch a lot of American children’s shows because they were too loud and rambunctious for me, I preferred the English or homegrown variety, so the Patty Duke Show was perfect.. the loud, rambunctious American tempered by her quiet, polite English cousin. I was an extra that worked with Patty Duke in her short run TV series in Coeur d"Alene, Idaho, "Amazing Grace." I had 3 shows were I was working with her but not allowed to say my lines out loud or they would have had to pay me more money. I thought that was funny, but I enjoyed working with her and the team. My two daughters worked with the co-star in the church scenes. Also before the series I worked at the theme park "Silverwood" and that is where I met her and her husband when I was the hostess at the Lyndie's Restaurant. She was dressed like a typical 1970's housewife as not to be noticed and identified. They were super nice and her husband was very polite when his credit card kept being denied.

To boys who grew up watching TV in the 1960's, "The Patty Duke Show" was one of our favorite shows, and most of us boys had a serious crush on Patty Duke; in fact, I was such a stupid little boy, that I actually thought that there were two of them! My Dad was a no nonsense businessman, and I would make him mad as hell whenever the show was on and I would ask him, "Daddy, how come 'Cathy' Duke ain't on other shows?" Boiling up with disgust, Dad would angrily reply, "Son, I have tried to tell you a hundred times that there is just one girl playing two parts----just one girl!" I was in my late teens before I finally grasped the cinematic concepts of 'doubles' and 'over-the-shoulder shots'. As talented as she was, Patty Duke's super cute looks went away with all of the chain smoking that she did. That broke my heart as I got older. Hayley Mills did the same thing.

I used to love the watch the Patty Duke show on re runs. I really had no idea until she died she had so many emotional problems in her life. What a beautiful talented person she was. I'm so sorry for all the pain she went through. But its good that the knowledge from her issues and problems are helping others. A damn shame Patty did not make 70. Is what a talent and what a topsy turvy life. I am still disgusted at her step sons canceling the adoption years after Patty adopted them. That could not have done anything good for her mental state.
I only hope Patty finds the peace in death that she never really had in life. And f*** y** to her father who left her at 6 years old. That probably started a lot of the problems for Patty.

By the way that was identical twin cousins. You left out the word cousins which makes it sound like they were sisters.

My former PCP suggested that my nurse ex had BP, after I explained to him her crazy outbursts of temper. She went to a doctor and was diagnosed with, you guessed it, biplar disorder. She never thanked me or my doctor-Go figure-John in Texas

Actor used to be used for males and actress was used for females. Then for some unknown reason actor started being used for male or female.

Im sick of all the titles and labels that are placed upon people
Maybe growing up in satanic hollywood plays a huge role in the behavior of many young tallented stars male and females
Patty Duke was a young beautiful woman
Like most of us she made mistakes as she grew up that im sure she learned from
Stay true to yourself that would be my advice to all of these young beautiful personalitys
Stop listening to the labels placed upon you by people who have an agenda in your life
Stand up for yourself and own who you are
Never hang your head in shame
Love yourself and Live your life doing what makes you happy
    Keep your faith in God

(5:36) Her and her brother's managers, 'Ethel Ross and John...' --
How did they manage to screw that up?! A simple detail like her managers' names?! Try 'Ethel and John Ross.' There -- see how easy it is?
(Edit:) (7:40) There they get it right!

I'm Glad I'm Not The Only One Who Feels Like This About A Name Screw-Up!
I Played It Back Twice To Try To Understand The Name.
I Thought The Name Was Ethel Rossenjohn!!
