At first I was like "why aren't you doing the last hit of demoman?", Then I realized I forgot what game this was. Damn man, shows what kind of moves we take for granted.
You point out a lot of the fancy sway and knee moves that Paul got starting in Tekkens 5 and 6, but I kind of miss when Paul was just about mixing up the Phoenix smasher and bone breaker (demo man wasn't added until Tekken 4).
So true! One of the very few instances he was bad and not too great of a damage output as well. Excellent vid as always, thank you so much for the cool content my man, your dedication is remarkable 👏
TTT mostly had the Mishimas, Bruce, Ogres and Changs as tourney viable characters. The other characters were either filler or absolute trash. I enjoyed playing this game in the arcades back in the day but man was it imbalanced as fack.
@@jizzhuntAgree. As well as both Kings, Anna and most definitely Ganryu were also very strong in Tag1. Honorable mentions: Bryan, Lei, Yoshi & Xiaoyu.
In Tag, I swear "Ultimate Punishment" was literally a just frame input. Could never get it myself when trying to demonstrate, but ever it comes out while i'm playing casual co-op as i'm casually explaining how that move can never be done. "This tackle move here, it's like impossible to get.... That.." Smh, then I can never show it again.
He might have been weak but he had something no other tekken game had, the ability to make wgf hit a grounded opponent. I used to slide people and time the wgf just right and it would tilt who I was fighting every time. Ultimately a waste of damage but it sent a message every time. And he still could really fuck you up with a well timed rage death fist. Also he had a REALLY good jab in this game and it carried him hard. He was just a different paul. Pair him up with law and he gets rainbow flip
I dont know if its the same as tekken 7, but the timing for 4,1,1+2 is to press it between the animation of paul hitting d1 and the second 1. The move list is very misleading it should say something like on hit instead not the neutral input sign. You can mash out 2d11 but you gotta wait until the first d1 hits then quickly mash out the 4,1,1+2 before the second 1 hits.
Ultimate Punishment is relatively easy to do once you get the gist of it. The hard part is you need to hold down for the punches, but let it go immediately after the first punch connects, then do 4, 1, 1+2 before the second punch connects. In Tekken 2, you could even hold down the 1 input as you press 2, and the input registers as 1+2 and Ultimate Punishment comes out. Maybe that trick works in Tag 1 as well?
Law was kind of average, not too good but not too bad either. His CH game and punch parry were top tier as always. One of his problems was the lack of a good low, but he had good combo damage which is always good to have. He had excellent magic 4 and it was actively used as an anti-EWGF back in the day.
You've got to bear in mind that this is pre-T6. Most characters couldn't block-punish anything safer than -15 from standing with anything beyond their i8 (or in some cases, i10) punisher. Bryan and Hwoarang are examples of characters whose punishment is actually bad in this game.
That is a fair point I somewhat considered but I didn’t know how significant it actually was. ty for the insight. At least he had an 8 frame jab with alright damage.
He was dogshit in T3 as well (pathetic damage output, piss-poor space control, massive issues with attack safety). That said, they actually nerfed him in TTT1. According to the renowned UK Tekken veteran Dinosaur, people actually thought that Paul was top-tier material in T3. This was due to his Deathfist/Falling Leaf 50/50, which could be done from QCF. Apparently, this made people think Paul was OP in T3. Namco responded by nerfing this 50/50. They removed the ability to do Falling Leaf from a QCF. They also made Falling Leaf dependent on a clean hit in order to trip the opponent and land both hits of the string, and, as mentioned in this video, the clean-hit range was virtually non-existent. I believe they also nerfed the pushback of Deathfist on block. The upshot of all of this was to make an already terrible character (whom people bafflingly thought was top-tier because of a 50/50 that wasn't even particularly spectacular) even more useless.
In T3 the d+1,2/d+1,4,2 mixup was a nightmare until people figured out they could interrupt the 2nd hit of both strings with a low jab but the fact that he didn't stagger when the low in both d+1,4,2 and d+4,2 was blocked, was absolutely bonkers.
According to Dinosaur, people actually thought that Paul was OP in T3 because of his Deathfist/Falling Leaf 50/50. Namco responded by essentially gutting this 50/50.
Falling Leaf is the generic term for a decent speed knockdown low sweep. I think it's taken from Lei's db4 but I might be wrong. It's basically faster than Snake Edge, but slower than Hellsweep.
Bro it has worst graphics than T3 lmao (subjective). The characters looked like plastic. It was jarring. I was so used to T3's polygons and textures and how some characters looked in the then new game was straight up horrible. Edit: The T2 ones looked especially bad
Well, I suppose the only true consolation you have outside deathfist would be his f,f+1+2 being arguably the most busted tag-bufferable throw in the game. To put things in perspective, Hwoa/Baek d/b+3+4 (yes the unblockable) is guaranteed when you tag buffer the throw. It gets even worse if you're a big character because almost all the big meaty attacks (Roger / Alex animal uppercut, TGF, Heihachi d+1+4) are all guaranteed as well.
Paul having a worse Hammer Punch than Prototype Jack absolutely slays me.

The most honest Paul:
I'm kidding, this was bad. I played tag 1 alot when I was a kid, but I was far too young to figure out how weak he was
It feels so weird seeing pre demo man Paul. Bone breaker looks incomplete without it.
No pain, no gain! TTT Paul crawled so T7 Paul could URRRAAAA

I've been watching old TTT tournaments lately and I noticed there is no Paul players. Thanks to your video now I know why pro players dont play Paul.
my pleasure^^

weak and hard, he’s the prefect loyalist character

Now his df2 has phantom range 😂 but hey appreciate how hes gotten better over the ages

They should revert his df2 to this version…
He really let himself go after failing to finish off Ogre in Tekken 3 😭
At least he has iconic deathfist
P.Jack unfortunatley doesn't have it

Even tho he was weak I still played the hell out of him in Tag 1
that's great
Paul's blue biker outfit was fire. I loved it.
Paul's ff4 only launches on crouching opponents

Can u do Lei next in Tag 1?
can you please share some info about lei in tag 1?
tag1 paul can't d+4,2 when QCF. TK3 paul can d+4,2 when QCF.
this is how paul should be, after killing devil jin, and also give him -18 arm sweep
4:40 After the three punches, press 4, then HOLD 1, then press 2 while holding 1.
I see
thanks bro
@@mwkan772 No problem, tell me if you managed to do it!
In TTT some characters including Paul has 8 frame jabs, not i10 ;)

Just you wait, He'll be the toughest in the universe! You will see!...Now...how is he exactly gonna get those buffs...hmm...
YEAH..
good old days when he was not busted for no reason

@@RurouniiJayI’d say Tekken 5 (Not 5DR) & Tag 2 for sure. Unfortunately she was one of the weakest in Tag1.
Yeah b1,2 wasn't even added until way later. Paul feels pretty shitty until T6 honestly, and even in that game he's outclassed.
so true
This Peter Parrot
Speaking of Paul Phoenix how come pro players dont play Law in TTT? Was Law trash in TTT?
He wasnt great lmao
Mid tiers in TTT meant that they sucked ass anyway
It's about life bar as well, Law and Paul has 100/100, for example Jin with Devil 108/120...

some properties on hit and block LMAO

1,2 was an 8 frame punish in this game, not 10. If he had nothing better until 15 frames though then yeah, that’s not great punishment.
