Thank you!!! I am glad you do! Thank you so much for watching and for the sweet comment! Gave me such a happy feeling just now while having my morning coffee!!! Have a lovely day!💕💕💕💕💕
Forgot to add I also have the Marjorie Bastin edition of Little Women, which is my ALL TIME fave bk Alcott one off my fave authors. Have been in Orchard House so many times I could give the tours. Grew up in Lexington Massachusetts, went to H.S. in Concord. Steeped in history and literary history. Miss it SO MUCH! We used to vacation in Maine when I was a child. My Dad built many "cottage mansions in Kennebunkport and Kennebunk.
Oh wow that sounds amazing! I used to live in Lynnfield, MA. I went to Concord so much as I loved it so much. Orchard House let me photograph my collection of Little Women LMA's desk! So nice to meet you on here and get to know you a little!!!💕
LOVEly editions! I love all the Brock & Thompson illustrations. I could never get into Mansfield Park until I listened to it on audio, and then I really loved it. Katie at Books And Things had her husband read it, and he described it as "one woman's heart-warming journey to marry her cousin" which I thought was hilarious! I'm listening to Sense & Sensibility on audio, and have watched both screen adaptations. I think both have their merit.
Oh yes....there is the cousin thing..... !!!😔 That is hilarious! I agree with you on the Sense and Sensibility adaptations! They are both so good! In fact, I think I will go watch one right now! Thank you so much for watching and for your thoughts!!! 🥰
Wow I love those Folio Society editions. How gorgeous! 😍 And thank you for the shout-out- yes, Mansfield Park has so much depth in it that you don't see at first glance. Actually I think all Austen's novels do that but MP hits at a deeper level of a person's internal life. I also love what you said about her characters being dynamic and interactive with the reader - so true! ❤
Hi Anne! You are very welcome! I loved your thoughts on Mansfield Park! Yes I also agree with you that all of Jane Austen's novels do- it was a statement that I kind of regret not clarifying in my video! Have a lovely day!!!🍓
Oh my word -Lyme Park! I went there with my niece 18 years ago and there was no such thing as putting on the costumes! In fact, the whole place was surrounded by scaffolding so you couldn’t even really get a good picture of it and once I went inside Some of the rooms were also being renovated. We had taken the train halfway across the country to see this thing. They had not advertised they were working on it, so our disappointment was complete! We saw what we could and took what pictures we could, and then I wrote a letter to the national trust and complained and they returned my money very promptly. With an apology. so I do believe I need to go back and I clearly need to check out the costumes and have a great day there. wow that would be so much fun! One thing I did come away with though was a beautiful needlepoint project from the gift shop that I haven’t even done yet, but It’s a really gorgeous picture of that house and I look forward to doing it. Thank you for a super appealing and interesting video! New subscriber!
Oh no!!! I am so sorry for that disappointing experience! If you can get over there and do it again it will be a dream! My Mom and I were supposed to visit the house where many a Jane Eyre has been filmed and she got food poisoning and that day, needless to say, did not go as planned! One day I hope to go back as well to see that! I read that the interior Pemberley shots of Pride and Prejudice were not filmed there, only the exterior was used due to permission issues, if that makes you feel any better! I am so glad you found it interesting and thank you so much for subscribing! I am trying to get my next one out this Saturday morning but have had a bit of a challenge with road construction near our house which starts everyday at 6am. Welcome welcome welcome!!! If all goes well I will see you Saturday!
I also LOVE the Marjorie Basjolien (sp?) editions. I have the Wuthering Heights. I collect editions of that. Good idea about reading the adapted versions of Jane Austen first. I so enjoy Cranford. Enjoyed this video, thank you!
It is a pleasure! One of my commentors below let me know that the Marjolein Bastin books have been published in Germany and are being translated into English - I am so happy for that info! There are quite a few and they all look wonderful!
Love your collection. As usual this is a relaxing and beautiful video. I still have yet to read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters. They could be fun!
Best wishes with what you choose to read. The only problem with watching other book tube channels is that it only increases the tbr! Happy reading to you!
Strawberries and Strawberry 🍓 Shortcake ♥️♥️♥️ Awesomely Austen would be a great way to introduce my Granddaughter (8) to Austen. I need to look for one or two.
Hi Deea! I love those Awesomely Austen's! The hardcovers are getting a bit difficult to find. They are selling the softcovers mostly now, but the other day I looked on Amazon and found a hardcover version of Pride and Prejudice. I found the Emma second hand. Ha ha! I just love the 80s so I always try to stick something from the 80's in my videos somewhere! I loved Strawberry Shortcake when I was a kid!!! Have a lovely day! 🍓💞
Oh, and what a great idea to read the different finished versions of Sanditon! I think i would like to try that, as well as the Watsons. So far I've read one (The Watsons, finished by John Coates).
Hi Anne! Ooh reading finished versions of The Watsons sounds like a great idea too!!! In regards to Sanditon, I am just so curious to see where different authors take it.
I bought my friend the M Bastin illustrated 'Sense and Sensibility' which is lovely, my only complaint was it had a stamp on the enclosed letter and they weren't in use at that time!
I want to get the Sense and Sensibility next I think....I dont think I even noticed stamps on any of the letters in P&P and Emma! i will have to go check now! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!!!🍓
Hi Amy! I am so glad you enjoyed it!!! And thank you so much for letting me know that! Makes my day!!!! Have a lovely Saturday and weekend!♥🍓♥ Chat Soon!
Yes, it's always disappointing to discover there are no illustrations inside. You have a beautiful collection. I'm reading Pride and Prejudice at the moment.
Hi Friends! Happy Jane Austen July! I hope you enjoy this video! I forgot to mention that 'The Great Gatsby' is from Beehive Books! Let me know which of the books strike your interest the most and which book you plan to read if you are reading Jane Austen this July, Also, have you read Mansfield Park? What were your thoughts if you did? Thank you for watching! See you soon in another video!🍓
I love Mansfield Park. Harper Lee in a rare interview once said that Mansfield Park was one of her favorite novels and that it perfectly depicted a microcosm of society, all of the goodness and ugliness and wealth and poverty and attitudes toward slavery that she wanted to depict in one small society . . . and that her only goal as a writer was to be "the Jane Austen of Alabama."
@@areadersalmanacwithceleste1366 oh wow that is very, very interesting! And perfectly put. And very true. I think Harper Lee became her own person, which is a good thing, but I love that she aspired towards such a high ideal! Thank you for telling me about that! I can't wait to reread Mansfield Park again.
I love your illustrated editions of Jane Austen! I am doing Jane Austen July, and plan to read the fragment of Sanditon. I love Mansfield Park - one of my favorite of her novels - and may reread it but I am also planning to participate in the group read of Sense and Sensibility.
Hi!! Oh so cool we can read Sanditon together! I plan to begin it this afternoon! I read Sense and Sensibility with my book club recently so thought I would choose something else this July, but S&S is a massive favorite! Thank you so much for watching my video!!🍓🥰 Have a lovely day!
Lovely collection! ❤ I was looking for the Cranford edition of P&P online but prices were ridiculous, fortunately I found it at a normal price about a month ago at BAM as well, I think the publisher came out with reprints but only for four of the titles. Also… I’ve seen images online of Northanger Abbey and Persuasion illustrated by Marjolein Bastin in German, so maybe they’ll come out in English eventually.
Oh i would love to see those! Where do you find them? I saw a page on the BAM website that hinted at another title but when went back to check it had vanished. But I will keep checking just in case more get released. Love them!!! Oh will be so excited to see a Persuasion from Marjolein Bastin! So yes please do let me know where you found them! Thank you so much for watching my video and for commenting! Its so nice to meet another book collector on here!!🍓
@@WaterBearReads I got my P&P copy at the BAM online store, the other title available at that moment was Sense & Sensibility and the other two (Emma and Persuasion if I remember correctly) were on pre-order, I didn't get the S&S cause I was waiting until the other two were in stock but you're right, they're gone from the website now. I saw Persuasion in a Reddit post and Instagram recently but I just looked at the publisher's (Coppenrath) online store and apparently Mansfield Park is also available. Looking forward to your birthday haul video!

Hi Heather! Is this your birthday month? If so, I hope you have the best most wonderful birthday ever! 🎉 I love “another lady” as the continuer of Sanditon and that’s the version I read. I enjoyed the series and I’ve never understood why so many purists dislike it. It’s an imaginative continuation which approximates Austen and I enjoyed the way it was told! I also loved the movie P & P and Zombies! Hysterical! I immediately thought of Tom Selleck as Darcy, on the Illustrated Library edition, lol. 😅 Thanks for mentioning my channel mentioning your channel! Another lovely video. PS I have been looking at about 50 cozy reads on my TBR shelf and lamenting that what I actually want to read is something scary and gothic. And now you’ve introduced me to Summerween, so now I want to drop everything and mood read. 🎃
Hi Celeste! No actually my birthday month is in April (same as yours right?) I'm just getting videos out a little slower this summer because I have a minor health issue (non-life threatening, just something that requires me to wear a bandage on my face and so don't want to film during those times!) so YouTubing has been a little more challenging these past couple months. I am rather anxious to get to that video though! Ha ha yes Tom Selleck is definitely the mustache man of the 80's! (and beyond!!!! ha!) When you mentioned "series" that you enjoy, was it the Sanditon books or the Masterpiece show? I love "Summerween"!!! I think the idea sprouted from "Stranger Things" on Netflix, and I came across it somewhere down the line. Let us know if you find something "summerweeny" to read! It will be so fun!!! Thank you so much for watching my videos and for commenting!!!! 🍓
@@WaterBearReads Thanks, will do! Oh, yes, I thought I remembered that we share a birthday month, but then when you mentioned birthday gifts I thought I had it wrong. Thanks for the clarification, and I hope your bandaging goes well. Glad it's nothing more serious. : ) By series I meant Masterpiece. I am Team Babbington and Team Young Stringer! I did NOT like the first season heartthrob . . .Sydney? I thought he was a mean jerky guy. Yes, lately I've planned out weeks of cozy videos and my inner rebel is NOT having it, LOL. Well, it won't be for Summerween, but in October/November I'd love to do a group Haunted House challenge or at least a video compilation where readers discuss one of their favorite "houses with it's own personality or presence" in literature. You know, "We Have Always Lived..." would be great for that! I have a new anthology of scary short stories so at this point I may just read one of those . . . Stranger Things is so wonderful. My son and I also love the Sesame Street parody, "Sharing Things." : )
@@areadersalmanacwithceleste1366 Celeste I just watched the Sesame Street parody! Oh my how did I miss that! So funny! Young Stringer is my favorite too. Have you watched all 3 seasons?
Hi Heather I have just finished Pride & Prejudice and watched the Colin Firth production. Enjoyed both. Your books are gorgeous 😊. Trying Charles Dickens currently Tale of Two Cities, any tips for reading Dickens? I’m just doing it chapter by chapter 😌
I have only read two of Charles Dickens...A Christmas Carol and David Copperfield, although I aim to change that. From what I understand from other Charles Dickens-reading peeps, it takes a minute to get used to the way he writes and the language he uses. But once you get used to it, you really fall in love with his work. To help out, try finding an illustrated version, or read an adapted version for kids first and then hit up the original. That strategy helped me recently with a Shakespeare I was trying to get through! (Merchant of Venice). I hope this helps!!!
