I Told Her To "Pass The $20 TIP Along" After Mowing Thier Lawn For FREE

- I was driving through my neighborhood and noticed that this yard was overdue for a mowing. The edges definitally needed some love and the grass was getting tall. i knocked on the homeowner's door and a kind gentleman answered. I asked if he'd like a free mow and he said sure have at it. So I drove back home, got my equipment, and came to service the property. I started by trimming the perimeter of the proeprty and fence lines. I then proceeded to mow the grass using a commercial mower and I bagged the clippings to give the property a much cleaner look (that's what I prefer).
The edges out front needed a serious makeover since it looks like they haven't been edged with a blade for the longest time. I went over the edges around 4-5 times to really create that 90 degree square look. Before I started blowing, the homeowner came out and asked if i'd come inside for a minute before I was finished. After blowing off the property, I knocked and was asked to step in for a second. They thanked me for my service and asked if i'd like to take on the property on a bi-weekly basis.
Unfortunatly, I don't have any more room in my schedule for re-occuring work as I am trying to help y community out full-time. She understood and tried to tip me $20 for helping them out. I told them to pass the tip along to the next person they see needs it because I know that someone out there needs it more than I do.I hope you enjoy today's video. That's a sweetgum tree. And those little spiked pods hurt worse than stepping on a Lego.
We also call them gum ball trees.

@@lenom1289 ABSOLUTELY! Fill has been an huge inspiration to a lot of people when it comes to taking care of lawns. I would follow his exact footsteps.
Picking up the clippings obviously makes some OCD people happy...but leaving them on the lawn is good for the grass. It's free fertilizer.
@@GuyWithTheDogs Not with overgrown grass... It creates matted mulch and smothers the grass.
Proper mulching should be done regularly on a weekly mow to return extremely fine clippings into the soil so it breaks down quickly.
It's not just the height of the grass, it's the ability to enjoy walking out of the house and driving back into the driveway and seeing your home at its best. It brings a smile and a deep breath of contentment. That can make a big difference in a persons mental health especially on a tough day.
And you entertained their cat, highlighted their flowers and made the sidewalk pretty.
Phil, regardless of the location or length of grass, you always turn out a quality job.

It is a "SWEETGUM" tree common to the Delaware & Maryland area. Known for the "Monkey Balls" that fall from it. Crafters use the monkey balls as fillers in making pinecone Christmas wreaths and other crafts as well.

husband calls the tree 'Sweet Gum" They make a mess with the balls.
A friend of ours has a huge gum ball tree in his yard, and hires a neighborhood kid to pick up all the gum balls after they fall. And I believe that was a moped (geezer version of scooter). 😂 Another great job, Fill.

Watching you makes me want my yard to look really nice, my husband can’t do a lot anymore, he tries were he can help. I decided to make my edges better, so I went around with a shovel and edged them. I think it looks better, we did this a few years ago. I’m working on my yard in the back after our winter here in Sheridan, Wyoming. We had so much snow here and two dogs didn’t help the lawn in the back yard. I reseeded it and it’s looking so nice know. We had a 11 year old boy come by and wanted to mow our lawn and he came by and did the front yard it’s so much bigger then the back yard. He did a great job with the yard mowing and trimming the front yard. I will have him mow our yard again.

It looks really nice! That is a Sweetgum tree. I would not recommend ever having one. They are the gift that keeps giving with a million of these spiny sharp balls, saplings shoot up everywhere, limbs break then trash your yard and last but not least, they can break in high winds. I had one uproot several years ago after a huge amount of rain and then strong winds.

Thanks for acknowledging and remembering your gloves. I found myself staring at iPad screen wondering when / if you would remember them. I have a pair of work gloves with Velcro adjustment straps. I beep them on the mower handles to remember to wear them. Perhaps you should store your gloves on your battery pack charger since on of the first things that you do is to take a battery from the back seat. Get into the habit of taking gloves off after using your batteries.

I never edged my yard like that before and now it's become an integral part of my mowing routine! Thank you Fill!
Oh, I think it made a difference. It's all trimmed and tidy. I'm glad to hear that the people were so nice. I'm not so sure about the cat, though. He looked pretty grumpy. The yowling was an indicator! Lol. Their yard looks very nice.

Fill, that is a sweetgum tree, aka gumball. As kids we would throw those gumballs at one another and it hurt! 😂
Mom would have us gather them up in the fall to dry out because in late November we would glue sharp toothpicks into the holes, allow the glue to dry then spray paint them either white (snowflakes) or silver (stars) or gold. We would hang them on our Christmas tree or in our rooms. We would use (button) thread to hang them with before painting, or fishing line.
Whatever you do, don’t step on them barefooted!!

Sweet gum balls are sometimes spray painted for decorations, used in floral arrangements and for getting back at someone trying to sneak back home late at night carrying shoes in hand.

The bike 🚲 is a Moped! The tree is a sweet gum tree and those little spiked balls are sweet gum balls and they are rough on the feet in the summer time.

That tree is a sweet gum tree. We have these trees in South Carolina, and those little hard things that stick to the tree fall on the ground and if you step on it with your bare foot, ouch!!
