great video, hope you listen to it again off camera, from "you never give me your money" to "the end" it's supposed to be a medley with bits of songs completing each other, that's why it was almost too much to handle! looking foward to other beatles reactions
Any albums post rubber soul of beatles are great and since you liked George's voice you could check out his solo album 'All things must pass' which is so good
Well worth listening to “the long one” without stopping. It makes much more sense and is a listening pleasure. From you never give me your money through to the end. Her majesty was originally part of the medley but was taken out only for the tape operator to sneak it back on to the final recording as a hidden track.
Actually, my understanding was that the guy just stuck it at the end, as a place to put it where it wouldn't get lost. Tape was actually cut and pasted (adhesive tape) in those days and he couldn't really tape it to another reel. Oddly, having it end up at the end of side two, makes it match the abrupt ending of I Want You on side 1.
Discovering The Beatles, their influences, evolution, production... and their solo careers is a trip worth taking. Just one more thing. Keep in mind that all Beatles albums were composed, recorded and released in less than ten years. And they were in their 20s!!!
Octopus' Garden is exactly what the lyrics say it's about. Ringo saw an octopus' garden on a vacation and wrote about it. Your thoughts about the song don't have to be ruined. They are correct.
The love for Octopus’s Garden… Yes. Lol Some fantastic albums to check next would be Sgt. Pepper, Revolver, Rubber Soul, With the Beatles, A Hard Day’s Night, and The White Album (which is so varied in sound, tone, and style that you need to be prepared for a lot of curveballs). 🧸
This was the first Beatles album I ever listened to, and afterwards I checked out everything else in their discography in chronological order, and it was all great. There's no hidden dark meaning to Octopuses Garden, though the song is generally about just going to somewhere less stressful than you are, as the Beatles were basically on the verge of breaking up while recording their last 3 albums (self titled, Let It Be and this album). They kind of intended for this to be their goodbye album, even though they would release Let It Be the year after, but that was mostly recorded before this. Genre-wise, Barnes and Noble just lists every Beatles album as pop-rock, which is correct, though this album does have hints of psychedelia as well, mainly on Because. I Want You is also considered one of the first doom metal songs, even before Black Sabbath's self titled. It's nowhere near as heavy, but it has the feeling. As another commenter said, basically every Beatles album from Rubber Soul onwards is great, so you should check those out. However, everything before their self titled (to my knowledge) was intended to be heard in mono, but since stereo is the standard now they basically don't have any mono mixes on streaming, the only two albums that do are Revolver and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, both near the end of the Super Deluxe editions of those albums. For Revolver I would seriously suggest the mono mixes, and for Sgt. Pepper the Beatles producer George Martin said "You haven't heard Sgt. Pepper until you've heard it in mono", but the mono mix on streaming kind of cuts out the outro a bit for reasons I won't explain here, but the 2017 remixes are very faithful to the mono mix, so I'd say check those out!
Play it all the way thru as it's supposed to be listened to. Side 2 just flows from one song to the next as one large suite...the Abbey Road Suite to be exact.
Mean Mr Mustard is just another John Lennon song about something he read in the newspaper, the subject wasn't homeless but "mean" according to the gossip of the day
The last song "Her Majesty" is a (singing) toast (to The Queen). When you toast you have a glass (of alcohol) so him saying "but I've got to get a belly full of wine" is "Yeah, THE QUEEN! ... now let's knock one back.
As far as your next Beatles album, my 2 favorites are Rubber Soul and Revolver. Both are great, but Revolver is psychedelic with the occasional drug reference, which seems to be something you'd rather not hear, so Rubber Soul might be the safer choice for you.
Thankfully the original 1969 mix on this album is good and holds up. For other albums of theirs I'd recommend listening to the new mixes (post 2017 Super Deluxe versions). The 2009 remasters sound pretty bad especially on headphones. They just hadn't developed the techniques to mix stereo correctly until the late 60s early 70s. All the new mixes are on Spotify, so they are readily available.
Since you don't know what "heavy" means, i assume you never have seen Back To The Future. It stops like that because it closes side one of the album and they took it to the end of available space on the record.
It stops abruptly because that was John Lennon's deliberate artistic decision for this track, asking the engineer to "cut the tape" at that spot, not because of available space on the album.
@@garylee3685 "[John] let the tape play until just twenty seconds or so before the take broke down, and then all of a sudden he barked out an order: 'Cut the tape here.' 'Cut the tape?' I asked, astonished. . . .'You heard what I said, Geoff; cut the tape.' I glanced over at George Martin, who simply shrugged his shoulders, so I got out the scissors and sliced the tape at precisely the point John indicated...and that's the way side one of 'Abbey Road' ends." (Geoff Emerick) It was an artistic decision. And bear in mind that at this time the running order was still not decided. IWY(SSH) could have been placed at the end of Side 2, which would have had a different total running time, so the amount of available vinyl was not a factor when the cut was made.

Uncut Available on Patreon, thank u for taking the time to watch my video
I think you should go back and listen to this album, without interruption and distractions.
Side 2 is a medley. Step away from the Pause button.

You destroyed the Medley 😢😢😢

Wait till he finds out he’s listening to it wrong. 🤣
Ringo Starr was on a friend's yacht when he learned that Octopuses actually build a 'garden' on the sea floor to attract a mate.
This.
they're flying by in the second half cause it's a medley

The best goodbye album ever.
"Pink Floyd" is LATER.
Hey great react... keep it going
Why would you start with their LAST album? And you're chopping the songs all up? FAIL
Play it all the way thru as it's supposed to be listened to. Side 2 just flows from one song to the next as one large suite...the Abbey Road Suite to be exact.
Next EL MAL QUERER by Rosalia or Motomami by rosalia please!!
Originally “Her Majesty” wasn’t listed on the album’s track listed. With the long pause after “The End,” it acted as the world’s first bonus track.
"Heavy" was '60s slang for intense or mind-blowing.
Mean Mr Mustard is just another John Lennon song about something he read in the newspaper, the subject wasn't homeless but "mean" according to the gossip of the day
"The Beatles" didn't do "genre". They made music; others try to reduce them by trying to fit them into "genre".
The last song "Her Majesty" is a (singing) toast (to The Queen). When you toast you have a glass (of alcohol) so him saying "but I've got to get a belly full of wine" is "Yeah, THE QUEEN! ... now let's knock one back.

Medley: a collection of songs or other musical items performed as a continuous piece.
If you fuss about genres, you miss the beauty.
The album is full of hints of the impending breakup of the band. Or what Nietzsche called "the melancholy of all things finished."
Listen to Sgt.pepper’s lonely hearts club band next.
You suppost to listen the second half of the album as one big song.
I would love to hear your reaction to Marianne Faithfull's before the poison.
"Beatles for Sale," "Rubber Soul," Revolver," "The Beatles" (aka "White" album).
LP was released in September 1969. "Beatles' broke up in April 1970.

@strathman7501 not true. John wanted the tape abruptly cut off, but not at that particular spot. It went til the side finished.

Too bad you're obliged to analyze. We simply listened and grooved. We didn't have the words to describe songs and music then like you do now.
