    thank you! I'm familiar with crimping atx pins, and actually have one of the best crimpers. all I need are the housings and pins!! Thank you! Corsair rib cable management is a nightmare!!! this will help me make neater runs and put all the hubs anywhere I want. I tried crimping these connectors using 22AWG 4 circuit and an MDPC crimping tool, with not much luck. Whilst the connections are Max rated for 22AWG, they have a very tough time going into the connectors, often breaking and causing you to cut the cable and redo all four.
    So, as you said originally, I think better to use 24AWG!

    Hi. i don't want to use corsair's controller. I have arduino to power it pu but, even if this is an argb fan it has 4 pin connector! So i don't understand how i should connect it! do ypu know the pinout? in classic ARGB we have e pins -> ground, 5 volts, data..... but here?!? 4 pin ->
    what are your ideas?

    • @Dev-Biker
      @Dev-Biker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually, "classic" ARGB is +5V, Data, Ground.
      The fans have a "Data Out" line that is used to pass signal to the next fan. This allows all of the fans to be addressed individually. The pinout is +5V, Data Out [From Fan], Data In [To Fan], Ground.

      @@BestemmieDraconiche You absolutely could do that. That is, in fact, exactly what the fan hub does. You'd need to be careful, however, as the fans can take a bit of current, especially the LL fans.

      @Dev-Biker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BestemmieDraconiche The current available via different connections, power bricks and/or devices is not unlimited. Each LED uses current when lit. So you cannot put a gazillions devices on any power source and expect it to "just work". You need to keep the overall power requirements in mind and make sure that the power supplied will handle it. This also goes for the cables that you use; specific gauges of cables are rated for a max level of current with the Molex headers.

    • @Dev-Biker
      @Dev-Biker  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can get any 4-pin RGB extension cable. The male connectors are just a set of pins that you plug into the female connector. They are pretty widely available so no, I don't custom make them.

    • @cpjmmxiii8243
      @cpjmmxiii8243 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      DevBiker thanks for replying! I’ve looked at buying any rgb extension cables, but to make a custom length one it looks like I need to cut the rgb wire a few cm from the female end and solder new wire on to the end right? My OCD will kill me as the join will be a big bump in the wire and I haven’t figured out a way to make it look pretty yet. Was hoping I could find female RGB ends that I could just solder my wire on to

    • @Dev-Biker
      @Dev-Biker  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cpjmmxiii8243 Well, you can just get the headers, cut your custom length and then solder the headers on. You can get inexpensive, single-end RGB cables where the cover for the connector comes off and you can directly solder there.
      It's tedious, to be sure, and more involved than simply crimping to a custom size.

    I'm under the impression that despite the Corsair RGB HUB using 4 pin connectors I won't be able to plugin for talking sake of a 4 pin connector from an Antec fan, I thought all RGB connectors would follow the layout of < P G B R > ? If so is it possible to rewire the Antec cables to a Corsair connector and have them work ? ? ? ?

    • @piratedogtech5910
      @piratedogtech5910 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, any and all insight is much appreciated. I tried Discord about several times in the last two days and got no answers.
      I decided to get Antec Prizm X 120 ARGB Fan because they're rated at a higher speed with a lower decibel, I've been told by 3 different people that the fan speed will be controllable from the Command PRO but with a 3 pin ARGB, I'm guessing I will need to take up more space in my case with the separate RGB controller.
      Do you think it might damage the fans or controller if I test to see if the 5vARGB is compatible with the 5vDRGB ? ? ?
      Or should I just use the separate controller for both fan speed and LED control ?

    • @piratedogtech5910
      @piratedogtech5910 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kraig800i Which Discord server did you try? Might I suggest Corsair Case Owner's Club? Even if you don't own a Corsair case ...
      "ARGB" and "DRGB" are typically the same - Addressable RGB and Digital RGB - but with different nomenclature. If it's compatible with Aura/Mystic Light (and those are) and addressable, then they are WS2812B LEDs - and the same that Corsair uses.
      Be careful chasing specs. There is no standard for the measurements of those specs by the manufacturers. Speed isn't everything; you don't usually run at full speed. And they don't give you an idea of what the CFM or static pressure is across the range of the fan's supported speeds. These stats are, unfortunately, difficult to find.

      It has the full specs on the listing and quiet a few You|Tubers seem to have positive reviews about them. I know the fan speed isn't the be all and end all but a max rpm difference of 1000rpms more for the same price kind of rubbed me up the wrong way towards Corsair's £45 "budget" option.

      Wouldn't work, unless I'm missing something. The solderless connectors that I've seen are for 5050 (4-wire, analog RGB) LEDs. Corsair uses WS2812 (3-wire, digital RGB). Unless I'm missing something ...

      So ... I did some digging and did find some solderless 3-pin RGB connectors. Should be workable as long as the pinouts are the same and the LEDs are WS2812. Do you have a specific application in mind?

    • @Edaurd
      @Edaurd 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      also, you would need to mention, that you can only use it by 10's, untill 60, basically only would work if you got 10 20 30 40 50 or 60 leds per lane, it wont work if you get 27 or 108, because if you go over 60 you can't specify it in the program, and having a non X0 number will make it flicker and not have the animations display correct

    • @Dev-Biker
      @Dev-Biker  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Edaurd That's only true if you configure them as strips. You can configure them as an HD or LL fan as well. The effects will be a little different - Pong, I imagine, would be quite odd - but HD fans have 12 LEDs each and LL Fans have 16. So with 6 LL fans, you'd have a total of 96 LEDs. That said, more than 60 and you run a risk of blowing a fuse unless you provide power separately.

      Hmmm ... I looked at these and it should be possible. That is assuming, however, that they are WS2812B LEDs (but by all appearances, they are). I'd have to see if I could dig up the connector for that cable but, TBH, it might be simpler to just replace the connector on the Phanteks strips instead. In iCue, you'd configure each single Phanteks strip as 3 Corsair RGB strips. And you'd want to limit it to 2 Phanteks strips per NoPro channel.
      Now ... another option might be to connect the Phanteks controller to the NoPro - essentially, it'd be like a fan hub as it has its own power source. Then you might be able to configure it as 6 LL Fans (96 LEDs vs 90 for the Phanteks strips). However, some effects may be somewhat wonky should you do that - things like sequential likely wouldn't be.

    • @Dev-Biker
      @Dev-Biker  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the gauge of the cable. The higher gauge, the shorter the max length. I've made cables up to 20' long with 22 AWG, which is the thickest that'll work with the Molex-SL headers. For that length, 24 AWG *worked* but had significant voltage drop due to resistance, resulting in a noticeable dimming of the LEDs. The 22 AWG cable had much less drop and nice, bright strips at the end ... all of this is due to the lower resistance ... Ohm's Law at work.
      I carry 10' cables in the store that are made with 22 AWG and they work well.
