Wow, you guys are unnecessarily brutal! lol. Not like she was trying to rival Jennifer Holliday nor was she actually playing the role of Effie here. I think she did an awesome job showcasing her attractive singing voice and bold vibrato. There`s a sultry quality to it that is very pleasant to the ear. Saw her as Deena Jones in a 1997 national tour of Dreamgirls and loved her. The most perfect Deena!
@Devon3579 I agree that it was a lackluster performance, however, I would like to point out that Jennifer Hudson does not sing it in it's original key either. She sings it at least a whole step lower than Holliday.

She did a good job, but towards the end her voice cracked twice!!....but she was still very good
It was a beauty pagent. Soul singers NEVER show up at these places.
